It’s The Reiss “Shola” Dress for Kate’s First Post-Wedding Appearance

Today’s wardrobe choices for William and Kate’s meeting with the Obamas were important, as the event marked the couple’s first official appearance since their wedding. Of equal import, it was also Kate’s first official appearance as a member of the Royal Family.

Kate opted for a brand she has previously worn in high profile settings, wearing the “Shola” dress by Reiss.

The $340 dress was available in both camel and blue; here is how it appeared on the company’s website.

We use the past tense for two reasons: the dress is almost sold out, and the website has crashed, below we show a post from the Reiss Facebook page:

“Due to unprecedented demand, Shola mania has crashed our website! We are endeavouring to bring the Reiss brand back to you ASAP!”

The modified bandage-style dress is somewhat reminiscent of both Herve Lager and Victoria Beckham, two designers known for figure-hugging designs. We say “modified” because the garment is nowhere near as tightly fitting as most pieces from the two brands mentioned above, if it had been it would have been utterly inappropriate for today’s event.

The Duchess carried the Anya Hindmarch “Maud” black silk clutch, a bag we have seen Kate carry previously. It is no longer available, but multiple bags that are *very* similar can be readily found in all price ranges.

We have yet to ascertain the makers of the black pumps and the necklace worn by the Princess, but will share that information as soon as we have it. (And we always put updates on our Facebook page, in addition to tweeting them and sharing most information here.) As for acquiring the dress itself, Reiss suggest you call the following numbers:

  • UK: 0845 604 7457
  • US: 1-877-509-9578
  • EU: EU +44 (0)207 473 9633

The dress was an outstanding choice, elegant and chic, nicely accenting the tan acquired on her honeymoon. The muted color was appropriately understated for the occasion; Kate was officially welcoming someone to her country, her sartorial selection allowed the guest to shine in a more brightly colored ensemble.

I think she should've worn the blue version...then again, nah. She wears enough blue already.

Thought Kate looked wonderful but a little too thin. By the way, Reiss should just next the Duchess their fall collection gratis because she has done more for that company since her engagement just by wearing their clothes. Although I'm sure she would get flak for taking freebies!

Loved the Reiss dress, I think it was a great choice. I hope she snatched it up in blue as well, as she looks so good in that color. It's classic without being stuffy...perfect! I'm also interested to find out more about her necklace. Catherine has always chosen understated jewelry and this is much more of a statement than we're used to seeing from her. Very interesting!
