Kate in Temperley Lace for Mental Health Day & A Book Giveaway

The Duchess returned to official duties today wearing a dress by Temperley London.

The occasion was a Buckingham Palace reception for World Mental Health Day.

Here is a quick video from the Press Association of the young royals arriving.

Kate, expecting her third child, has been coping with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, or HG, as it is often called.

An update on how she is feeling comes via Rebecca English of The Daily Mail.

An aide said: The Duchess’ condition is improving but she is still suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum.

The aide added: The Duchess is delighted to be able to be here tonight

This is the first time we have seen the Duchess since August 30 when she joined Prince William and Prince Harry for events remembering Princess Diana.

Another view.

Prince William praised Kate today and said that she actually came up with the idea for Heads Together. More from Robert Jobson’s story in The Evening Standard:

William said the Duchess of Cambridge realised if they put on a united front in the battle it would have a much greater impact.

“It was Catherine who first realised that all three of us were working on mental health in our individual areas of focus.

“She had seen that at the core of adult issues like addiction and family breakdown, unresolved childhood mental health issues were often part of the problem,” he said.

Rebecca English has more about tonight’s event in her Daily Mail story:

The 350 guests at the event included former Dame Esther Rantzen, model Adwoa Aboah and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Kate was praised by guests for making an appearance despite her sickness.

Stephen Fry, who is the president of the charity Mind, said: ‘I do understand she’s been having this problem more severely than many pregnant mothers and so we’re very grateful [she’s here].’

More about Kate’s health from The Evening Standard:

It is understood Kate’s appearance does not mean she will be resuming full royal duties.

The Duke and Duchess and Prince Harry arrived via a well-known hidden door in the Palace’s White drawing room and waiting to meet them were leading figures from the mental health sector including Mind president and comic Stephen Fry.

Over the weekend it was announced that The Royal Foundation, Kate, William and Harry’s primary charitable organization, is putting £2 million towards a new initiative aimed at using digital technology to improve the conversation around mental health.

There was a separate reception earlier today at St. James’s Palace for 100 key Heads Together supporters; William and Harry attended that event.

That’s Cooper, the therapy dog with Prince Harry.

More from Richard Palmer’s story in The Express.

The labrador-retriever cross has met Harry several times with his owner, Phillip Eaglesham, a former corporal in the Royal Marines who uses a wheelchair after contracting Q Fever, a debilitating disease caused by bacteria, in Sangin, Afghanistan in 2010.

Now to what Kate wore.

The Duchess was in Temperley London’s Eclipse Lace Collar Dress in Iris.

The dress is from the a/w ’17 collection, crafted of a cotton/rayon blend. The frock features an A-line silhouette, cotton voile skirt panels, sheer sleeves and shoulders, and black velvet trim. The dress is available at Net-a-Porter ($875), as well as Temperley London ($1095). Here you have a better view of the lace.

There is an abundance of styles from the fall collection in this material; they come in the Iris (blue) Kate wore, as well as white and black. The dress in white at Farfetch ($1095), and in black at Orchard Mile ($1095).

It comes in blue in a short style at Shopbop ($850) and at Orchard Mile ($850); if it were just a bit longer, it would almost make a great maternity dress. There is also a top available at Temperley and at Orchard Mile ($695).

Kate accessorized with her black Bayswater suede clutch from Mulberry

I think the Duchess was wearing her Gianvito Rossi signature pumps; the style is available in almost all sizes at Net-a-Porter ($675).

It looked like Kate wore her Kiki McDonough Eden earrings, with blue topaz stones surrounded by diamonds.

Kate wore her hair down with loose curls.  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also today, a giveaway for a wonderful book on Kate’s fashion by journalist Claudia Joseph. How to Dress Like a Princess: The Secrets of Kate’s Wardrobe.

From the publisher:

Royal writer and broadcaster Claudia Joseph speaks to Kate’s top designers and uncovers her favourite fashions, from her trusty nude LK Bennett court shoes to the magnificent evening gowns which transform her into the dazzling princess adored the world over.

The softcover book is packed with photos, information and interviews. The chapters include topics like The Crown Jewels, Parallels with the Queen, and How to Dress for the Season.

There are some terrific interviews with designers and companies Kate frequents, like Harry Collins of jeweler G. Collins and Sons, and Genevieve Lawson of Cornelia James, the Queen’s official glove maker. One of my favorite interviews was with milliner Rachel Trevor Morgan. The book is filled with lots of glossy photos of Kate, as well as things from her wardrobe, including her jewelry, shoes and handbags. Here is a bit more from the publisher’s description:

This is a gorgeous guide to what is fashionable, how to dress for the season and how women everywhere can adopt her style, recreating the look which has made her a global fashion icon.

How to Dress Like a Princess is available at Amazon in the US (from $13.35), as well as on the Amazon Canada site (CDN$ 13.63), and the Amazon UK site (£12.99). In Australia the book is offered by Booktopia (AUD$ 24.75); Booktopia will ship to New Zealand for an additional fee of AUD$ 6.99. Or you can order directly from the publisher.

Evening gowns, I've loved them ever since watching 'Miss World' as a child & later seeing them at the theatre/opera. That's gone now & Catherine often looks overdressed in her fancier gowns, like the Women in Hedge Funds Dinner & TV awards compared to everyone else. People tend not to dress up now, I think it's why she wears so much of this type of dress now at receptions. It isn't a 'day-dress' to me & it's very like the Jade India dress; much improved though, not so tight & without a polo-neck. I like the feminine sleeves, lace drapery being one of my favourite looks. The dress-proper being the same length as the overlay & the godets being lace too would improve even more. I don't find black on baby blue 'edgy' if that means 'daring', it's a combo that's been around for decades. I'd still give nine & a half out of ten though. I really don't understand why so many think that a light colour should only be worn in June/July. I don't want boredom. At least she wore pale peach after this one before returning to the boring black polo neck jumper. Susan - a very smart new website, no-frills with a pop of Royal Blue!!

I love her working wardrobe. Great inspiration for my office wear.

I think the icy blue with black detailing is an interesting and quite a bold choice. As always, the Duchess's attention to detail is immaculate. Just a thought, perhaps this style of dress, with what I can only imagine is softly structured and gently tailored, has been chosen for comfort. I would think it doesn't pull over the tummy and is quite relaxed. I think given that the Duchess has been (and is still not feeling 100%) so poorly, that to come out and be in the spotlight, a comfortable outfit would be essential .

Such a difficult assignment as the Duchess looks good in most things she wear! But no one wears the 'coat dress' as well as she does. ??
