Kate Recycles Maternity Styles at Children’s Centre Engagement

Kate chose an ensemble we’ve seen before for today’s visit to the Hornsey Road Children’s Centre in Islington, London.

The Duchess was in garments by Goat Fashion and Topshop.

The Children’s Centre provides vital mental health support to parents, as well as offering antenatal & postnatal services, a nursery and playgroups.

The Duchess was there to learn more about programs at the Centre supported by Family Action, the UK’s leading family charity.

Family Action has been providing services to disadvantaged and socially isolated families since it was founded in 1869.

This is the engagement originally scheduled in September that needed to be canceled because of Kate’s illness.

Kate spoke with parents who have been helped by the charity.

She also heard about Family Action’s perinatal mental health services.

A volunteer worker spoke of the benefits of the Duchess’s involvement, saying  “…it’s so good because it really raises the profile of perinatal mental health.

Kate has been learning more about maternal mental health. Earlier this month she hosted a roundtable discussion on the topic at Kensington Palace.

The Duchess was given a lovely posy by a young lady named Neveah.

More from Victoria Murphy’s Mirror story:

“She asked me what my favourite colour is,” said Nevaeh, who wore a baby pink party dress to present the Duchess with bouquet of flowers.

“I said it was pink and she said that’s Charlotte’s favourite colour too.”

During the visit Kate also shared that Prince George is very fond of helicopters.

Now to what Kate wore for today’s engagement. Many of you immediately recognized the Redgrave coat (£600, about $780) from Goat Fashion. The coat is 100% wool and made in the UK. It features an A-line silhouette, hidden front snap closure, and diagonal welt pockets.

The Duchess first wore the piece in 2013 for an engagement with Prince William at Child Bereavement UK.

UPDATE Nov 20: Goat tells me Kate is wearing the coat in nude, not cream as many wondered.

Thoughts about the look from The Telegraph’s Caroline Leaper:

When Jane Lewis founded her label Goat sixteen years ago, she did so with the intention that women would wear and re-wear the pieces she designed, for years to come, without them ever looking dated.

Surely there is no better affirmation that this principle has worked than seeing the Duchess of Cambridge today wearing her Redgrave coat once again, a piece that has been on rotation in her wardrobe since she was pregnant with Prince George back in 2013.

More from Ms. Leaper’s article.

This is the second time in as many weeks that Kate has worn pieces from the London-based line, after buying a new Eloise tunic dress in burgundy to give a speech at the Place2Be forum.

Despite the fact that Goat isn’t a maternity fashion line, the Duchess seems to repeatedly turn to Lewis’s designs when she is expecting – its fuss-free lines and quality fabrics presenting easy, failsafe looks for anyone with a changing figure. The Eloise is likely another piece we’ll see her wearing again and again in the future.

For those interested in the Eloise, Goat is taking info from anyone who would like to be notified when the dress is back in stock.

Kate appeared to be wearing the same dress seen at the 2013 Child Bereavement engagement with William, the contrast collar shift dress from Topshop.

We saw the return of Kate’s Half ‘n Half boots from Russell and Bromley. They’re one of the styles done by Stuart Weitzman for the upscale accessory retailer, and they remain available in all sizes.

Kate also carried her Bayswater waller clutch by Mulberry

The Kiki McDonough hoops and Annoushhka pearl drops were back.

One other quick note today, this one about our annual What Kate Wore calendar. We are doing a 2018 version (this one is a special edition!) and expect to have it available for pre-ordering in the next week to ten days. Thank you to everyone who has asked about it!

I hope this isn't inappropriate to share, but if anyone is interested a budget version of those earrings I highly recommend D Baker Jewelry on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/544258504/kate-middleton-inspired-white-pearl?ref=shop_home_active_29).

I bought mine over a year ago and they go with everything - jeans and t-shirt, work clothes, cocktail dresses. And they look very high quality, they don't look or feel like costume jewelry. I have no affiliation at all to that etsy shop, I'm just a very satisfied customer. I've been thrilled with everything I've ordered from her.

Regarding crossing legs, is this acceptable now in formal occasions? I myself find this pose somewhat comfortable in a long meeting but not sure what the social norm...

I‘d say, when you are wearing a short skirt and you are in front of a camera crossed legs are advised. For truly formal occasions mini skirts are not worn anyways.Long skirts even disguise the position of your legs for the most part.I‘d say, unless it’s your own coronation you don‘t need to worry about crossing legs

I absolutely love Kate's long hair and every time she cuts it shorter I think "noo!" but looking at the side by side of her wearing this outfit in 2013 versus 2017, it becomes clear how much more polished and professional her shorter hair looks.

All the "it's too short" comments made me think of her suite by French label Paule Ka. The little red suite, she wore it with these same boots and black tights a while back. That suite made me laugh out loud when I saw it. It was most certainly a "smig" too short. And so is this dress, but oh my, I really do love Kate! I think we get a glimpse into her personality when we see something too short. It makes me relate to her. Like there is this thought in her head, I know this is slightly too short, but I'm doing it anyway. She is a year younger than me and if i felt comfortable in it I'd wear it, which makes her very relatable. Obviously, she does feel comfortable in this length of dress. I like it, I think she wears it with class and just isn't giving in to what kate should wear.....it's what she wears.

Also, I think the trouser comments are funny. She doesn't wear trousers, so I'm confused why so many think she should? That's obviously not something she likes as of yet, she can change her mind, but personally, I wouldn't wear a trouser either (not one in my closet!) and I own a large company and have to look nice prettty much all the time. That's not my style, again why I love her style so much. She's not conforming to what everyone else thinks she should do.

I personally don't like the boots with this outfit. They are a little too slouchy and make me think she was wearing a legging that was too big, I had to really look to see they were boots. I liked the pump with this dress she wore the last time. But that said this boot was perfection with the Paule Ka skirt.

I agree with you about trousers. I don't like them on me either, so I don't own any either! Maybe some booties with the opaque tights would have looked better. Again, all personal taste - it is just fun to comment.

Is her coat the cream color or nude? It is always refered to as cream in the articles but I cant help to think it looks more like the nude color. Any help would be great. I love the coat but the cream looks too white in the stock photo but on kate it looks less bright. Thanks.

That's a good question. I think it is nude. I don't know if the color names were changed at any point, but on my monitor (and colors can vary wildly depending on the monitor) it looks more like the nude. I will get in touch with Goat and see if they can sort it out. :)
