The Princess Wears Veronica Beard for Early Childhood Meeting

The Princess Wears Veronica Beard for Early Childhood Meeting

The Princess of Wales has launched a series of animated videos to help parents and caregivers with early childhood education.

The short videos were developed by the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood and released today on YouTube. Below is a quick backgrounder on the films released by the Centre for Early Childhood.

The films are designed for use by professionals working in the early years sector, charities, parents, and caregivers. The Princess was a key part of the process in developing and designing the videos. Here you see her at a June 5 meeting with the team working on the project.
 More from The Telegraph’s coverage by Hannah Furness.

The Princess, who has worked with animators on the short films, has spoken of the need to raise a “younger generation better equipped to face the future”. Those “nurturing, loving interactions” with adults create the “building blocks” to make young children grow up to be happy and healthy, she said.

The Telegraph piece points out, “The series, also available in Welsh and with British Sign Language, uses different styles of animation and is based on expertise from Prof Peter Fonagy and Prof Sam Wass, described as two of the country’s leading figures in child development, and an advisory group of early childhood professionals. The Centre will now work with universities, charities, and professional bodies to add the films into training and practice across the country.” Below, you see the Princess looking at some of the storyboards for the films at the June 5 meeting.

There are seven videos in the series.

In a statement about the films, the Princess said:

Early childhood has been recognised as the golden opportunity to build strong foundations for future life, health and happiness.

The new animated films from The Centre of Early Childhood showcase how adults can create nurturing, loving interactions with children, helping to foster social and emotional development during their earliest years.

These core social and emotional skills are essential in forming healthy relationships and are fundamental building blocks that can carry us through life.

That is why we want to raise the awareness of, and celebrate, the extraordinary value of everyday moments of connection which matter more than ever in a rapidly changing world.

Early childhood offers a sacred opportunity to transform our societies for the better and by nurturing these skills in our babies and children, we will be raising a younger generation better equipped to face the future.

The Telegraph article notes, “The Princess joined two of the illustrators during a creative workshop hosted by the foundation in June, and is said to be ‘ closely involved’ in, and extremely passionate about, the resulting films.

Now, let’s look at what Kate wore for the June meeting. In the video and photographs, it looks like the Princess is wearing past-season styles by Veronica Beard, an American brand. The Kona Dickey Jacket ($698) in forest green is sold out, but still available in navy ($418 at Shopbop). The double-breasted style is made in a blend of 98% viscose and 2% elastane, lined in 100% polyester. The length is described as “slightly abbreviated – but not too cropped.” Made in the USA, the tailored design has padded shoulders, notched lapels, front flap pockets, tortoise shell buttons, and a center back vent.

The forest color is offered via Rent the Runway, as shown above. The trousers look like Veronica Beard’s Marbeau Trouser, also in forest green (Sold out, available in navy at Shopbop, $498). They are made in the same fabric blend and feature a high waist, wide-leg silhouette, pleats, slanted front pockets, back welt pockets, and a front zipper.    Thank you to Royal Fashion Daily for her speedy ID of these pieces.

Beneath the jacket, it looked like the Princess brought back her ivory Silk-Blend Tank by Joseph (£215).

UPDATE AUG 7: Middleton Maven suggests the top worn by the Princess has a higher neckline than the Joseph top shown above. She thinks this Paige style ($70) is a possibility.

The Princess accessorized with her Cartier Trinity Earrings in white, rose, and yellow gold. (Shown here when worn to Wimbledon.)

Apologies for the abbreviated post, I am racing out the door for an out-of-town commitment!

I absolutely love the jacket. I wear a lot of boxy shirts myself and like the cut here as well, I think it looks cool and effortless. Not sure about the colour but I don’t honestly mind it, I think it goes well with the material of the buttons and the fabric of the jacket.

I thought I was going to love the trousers before I saw the whole length. I thought they would be much tighter at the ankles, leaning more towards a carrot cut. I can’t wait for the too wide, sweeping-the-floor look to be over.

@Jade Hurst Sargeant, I remember wearing those trousers myself ca. 1999 but it wasn’t a good experience then either. One drop of rain and your ankles are soaked.

@Theresa, Me too! I cannot figure out what is going on with pants these days. Maybe some cool young commenter on this website will take pity on me and fill me in lol

I'm late to the discussion this time, having just returned home from Ecuador and the Galapagos.

I'm not impressed with Kate's attire on this occasion. The pantsuit is overpriced given its fabric and lack of style. I find the jacket to be boxy, too short, and the buttons not cohesive. The pants are so wide and the pleats don't help in any way. Although I like green, this is an odd shade and I appreciate Zell's description as Dollar Bill Green. The plain, ivory top does nothing to brighten the look.

I am pleased, however, to see the continued work by Kate with early years development for children. The awareness, that she has created for this important topic, is most impressive.

@Joanne,

I will add that I hope that Catherine stays far away from any online criticism of her, including any and all criticism of her outfits. It's strange to me how everyone (including me!) seems to think it's perfectly fine to be super critical of how a woman dresses simply because she's famous.

After all, none of us would dream of going up to a woman we know and literally telling her to her face, all the various ways we either approve of, or very much dislike, what she's wearing. The idea is absurd and laughable when applied to people we know (although such criticism may be done behind their backs, sad to say).

However. ith Catherine, and other famous ladies, we all seem to think we have every right to do this, and while we aren't doing it to their faces we Are doing it in online, which makes it a very public thing, (not counting private groups that, hopefully, Stay private).

Mind you I'm Not knocking this Wondeful site or the Fabulous admin, who Always includes lots of information in every post, that goes well beyond just what Catherine is wearing. I love this site! And I learn a lot from it about the Royal Family. And I'm not trying to insult anyone here who strives to say something relevant and interesting, even if critical, about "What Kate Wore."

I just also know that everyone has every right to their own style, including the Princess of Wales. She owes us nothing in that sense, at all, except what protocol may demand of her, (and I'm sure she had plenty of resources for that).

@Joanne,

Hi Joanne, I'm just seeing your reply to me now, so I hope you don't think I was ignoring you on purpose. Anyway, I understand where you are coming from, and all I can say is that I feel that kindness is a virtue and so, that is what I try for. Would never say I'm perfect at it, but, when I comment on her oufits, I do want to be sensitive to the fact that Catherine is a real human being and not a doll playing dress up. I can't speak for anyone else but that is what I try to do here.

@Bonnie, thank you for your reply! You make a very convincing case for packing cubes. I will try them on my next trip! I can imagine how they organise the mind as well as the clothes, during the packing process. I'd love a trip where I don't spend a portion of it berating myself for strange packing choices.

@Bonnie,

Keep at it, Bonnie, as long as you can & if it's still fun for you. You are an Inspiration!

@Zell, I recall on the occasion of a Remembrance Day post,that it was my impression that Catherine was being rather harshly criticized for various aspects of her look.I expressed this feeling that she was getting a great deal of criticism, and a commenter replied to me in what felt like a harsh manner about this being a site where all opinions are welcome. I suppose that did not apply to mine.Because of that I rarely comment anymore,even though I enjoy reading the posts.

A miss for me: colour not particularly attractive, a lot of money for a pretty substandard material and pleated trousers, especially when on wider than normal legged trousers are not, i.m.o., a good look on anyone - including Catherine, who can carry mist things off.

The positive was that we saw something relatively recent that Catherine had been engaged in, and this sort of ‘easy for any parent to follow’ initiative is to be applauded. When I read what seems to be going on, in the world and in this country, I sometimes get quite disheartened. Kudos to Catherine and Early Years.

Gorgeous green jacket. The googly eyed buttons would be fun for a visit wijt actual children. The pants, though, might be one of the top 10 worst things she has ever worn - they almost make me want her to bring back the inappropriately skinny, skinny pants you couldn’t get her out of.

That is a horrendous amount to pay for a viscose/polyester jacket. The shaping of the entire outfit reminds me of an outfit worn by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman where she's trying on all those clothes, it was a boxy, cropped navy blue jacket with gold embroidery and mustard yellow pegged trousers. She looked great but that was 1990!

The worst thing about this outfit, however, are the buttons. In the photos where the princess is standing, those 2 lower buttons look like googly eyes 👀
