The Prince and Princess were greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Lady Colgrain.

Here is a video of the couple as they arrived at Canterbury Cathedral on a damp and blustery afternoon.

We learn more about today's ceremony from this People story by Simon Perry.

The Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out to witness the first woman cleric to lead the Church of England during a service at Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday, March 25.

Prince William represented his father, King Charles, 77, at the ceremony in which Dame Sarah Mullally was installed as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury. It is an established tradition that the heir to the throne takes on the role of leading the royal family in witnessing the event.

You may recall the Prince and Princess meeting with Dame Sarah in early February.

We return to the People story.

After the meeting with William and Kate on Feb. 5, Mullally said, "I know we hold the same hope for a better world, and I look forward to working together in the years to come. I will continue to hold them and their family in my prayers,” PA reported.

The couple greeted dignitaries and participants as they arrived.

In this brief video, you see the Prince and Princess as they were led to their seats in the Quire.

The royals as they sang one of today's hymns.

Also attending the ceremony was Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The Telegraph reports others at the ceremony included, "...Kemi Badenoch, the Tory leader, the Commonwealth Secretary-General, a delegation from the United Nations, faith leaders, charity representatives and schoolchildren...." We learn more about today's service from this BBC piece.

In the choir she was installed as Bishop of the Diocese of Canterbury in the "Cathedral Chair" before moving to the famous "Chair of St Augustine" to be installed as Primate of All England.

While the service was rooted in historical significance, Dame Sarah had a hand in choosing some of the hymns.

There were also nods to the diversity of the global Anglican Communion - with singing in Urdu, a Gospel reading in Spanish and a prayer in the Bemba language of Zambia.

A view of the Archbishop.

The Prince and Princess are speaking with the newly-installed Archbishop.More from this Telegraph article.

After the ceremony, the Archbishop greeted the Prince and Princess at the West Door of the cathedral, where the trio chatted animatedly.

Dame Sarah gave a small curtsey to the Princess and laughed as she responded to remarks made by the Prince. At one point, the Archbishop placed her hand on her heart as she talked to the couple.

You can see it was just as windy after the service as it was before it got underway.

This video from the BBC's Lebo Diseko shows how gusty it was.

Now, we turn to our look at what Kate wore, beginning with her coat by Suzannah London.

The Washington Prince of Wales Check Cashmere Coat ($3875) is described as "taking inspiration from a vintage hunting coat" and being "Cut from an incredibly soft and warm luxurious cashmere virgin wool blend Italian cloth...with a modern semi-fitted cut, outlined in chic black silk satin and a soft A-line midi skirt." The fabric blend is 50% Cashmere, 47% Polyamide, and 3% Virgin Wool, and the lining is 100% silk satin. It is a double-breasted style, embellished with black faux-horn buttons and angled side pockets. It also included a self-belt, something the Princess chose not to include with her ensemble. I believe the Princess had the skirt narrowed, some of the skirt volume removed; it's possible the bodice was also made a little more fitted.

Suzannah is not a new brand for the Princess. She has worn the label many times, including a green-and-white design seen in Galway in March 2020, the Flippy Wiggle Dress in both white (worn multiple times) and green (shown here in May 2023), and the Simple Coat Dress in navy with white trim (seen in November 2025), as well as the Budding Hearts Dress worn in Prince George's first birthday photos (not shown in this montage).

Today's other new piece was a statement hat by milliner Juliette Botterill. The Houndstooth Straw Boater (£690 roughly $925 at today's exchange rates). It is crafted from black and ivory houndstooth straw. "Adorned with a single ostrich quill, it’s the perfect blend of classic style and modern flair! The hat is worn on a slim headband with hat elastic, available in your choice of hair colour for a secure and comfortable fit."

As you can see, the Princess's hair was styled in an elaborate updo.

The Princess brought back her Ralph Lauren Collection Celia Pumps  ($750) in black calfskin with a pointed toe and 4" heel. It is also offered at Farfetch ($783).

She repeated her Chanel Mini Classic Handbag ($5400) in black lambskin.

The Princess also wore her Cassandra Goad Cavolfiore Earrings ($10200) in 18-carat yellow gold with pearls and diamonds. And she wore the unidentified diamond cross pendant we have seen on several occasions.

UPDATE MAR 26: A quick shopping note I wanted to add to the post. With Nothing Underneath has created a discount code for WKW readers. The Princess has worn the Blue Poplin Boyfriend Shirt ($150, seen below left) and the Boyfriend Style in 100% Tencel ($230, seen below center), and the Jura Cardigan in Yak Wool ($290, shown below right). WKW readers can receive a 10% discount with promo code SUSAN10.

Sky News offers four minutes of coverage in this video.

I believe this video contains the entire service, and it appears to be viewable worldwide.

The Princess in Green McQueen for St. Patrick's Day with the Irish Guards https://whatkatewore.com/2026/03/17/the-princess-in-green-mcqueen-for-st-patricks-day-with-the-irish-guards/ https://whatkatewore.com/2026/03/17/the-princess-in-green-mcqueen-for-st-patricks-day-with-the-irish-guards/#comments Tue, 17 Mar 2026 21:23:48 +0000 https://whatkatewore.com/?p=89073 The Princess of Wales brought back an Alexander McQueen coat for St. Patrick's Day with the Irish Guards.

The parade was at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire, southwest of London. The Princess took part in her role as Colonel of the regiment.

Below, the Princess as she was handed a basket of shamrocks to distribute.

This is one of those engagements she always seems to enjoy.

Among those receiving the traditional shamrock sprigs was Turlough Mór (pronounced Tur-Lock More), the Guards' Irish wolfhound mascot.

When not on duty, the canine is often called “Seamus.” More on his name from this Guards magazine story.

...the 17th Regimental Mascot is now officially named Turlough Mór after a King who ruled Connaught from 1106 to 1156 and who ruled as High King of Ireland from 1136 to 1156.

A quick video from Cameron Walker of GB News.

And here is his handler, drummer Joseph Aldridge, receiving his shamrocks. The Mirror's story by Russell Myers has more.

Drummer Aldridge said: “It’s nice because she remembered me from last year. She asked how he’s doing, (said) it’s lovely to see him, as always. He’s fit, he’s healthy, that’s what she wanted to know – how healthy he is. She always loves saying hello to Seamus.”

Another view as the Princess handed out the shamrocks.

The Princess awarded long service and good conduct medals to soldiers within the regiment.

She also met ‘Mini Micks,’ who are junior cadets from Northern Ireland. We learn details via this Daily Mail article by Rebecca English.

Speaking to the junior cadets, she said: 'Well done all of you, it's a hard run. Really well done.'

More on the Princess's visit from this piece by Kate Mansey in The Times.

Kate also met the two women who founded the Women’s Network at the Irish Guards. Speaking to Sergeant Maxwell and Lance Sergeant Aldous, the Princess asked if they thought “things were changing” regarding attitudes towards women in the Armed Forces.

Sergeant Aldous said she joined in 2011, and it was “completely different.” Meanwhile, Sergeant Maxwell said: “A lot of it is about people’s past experiences where they haven’t been heard before by their chain of command and been supported properly.

After the shamrock presentation, it was time for the parade.

The Princess's view.

Following the parade, the Guards raised three cheers for the Princess.

The Princess was given a lovely bouquet of flowers.

The bouquet was created by Martyn Crossley, a Windsor florist who has created many beautiful arrangements for members of the royal family on special occasions. Thank you to my friend Micki for the heads-up on this.

Then it was time to pose for the group photo.

Then the Princess met families inside the mess hall.

The Daily Mail piece offers additional information.

In one sweet moment, the Princess told the wives of the Irish Guards that they need a 'mum's club' to help with childcare.

Kate, a mother of three, discussed juggling taking care of young children with the pressures of having spouses in the Armed Forces.

Here she is with some of the youngsters.

The Mirror provides details.

She also met Lance Sergeant Mills, who led the drums and pipes during the parade, his wife Jessica, and their three-year-old daughter Vienna, who jumped up and down with excitement as the princess crouched down to greet her.

“Are you excited?” Kate asked Vienna, before telling her she had “beautiful hair” and applauding when the little girl twirled in her blue dress. She princess offered her hands to Vienna, who took them before swinging towards the floor.

Another view of the girls with the Princess.

We return to The Mirror's piece one more time.

[Lance] Sgt Mills described meeting the princess as “such a great opportunity”, and one his daughter had been excited about “all week”. He added: “I led the drums and pipes on today, so that was a big moment for me in my career.” His wife, Jessica, said: “(Kate’s) just so easy to talk to, and really down to earth, I wasn’t actually expecting that. “It’s my first time getting to come to the parade, so it was really lovely.”

Here is a video of the girls, this one also courtesy of GB News' Cameron Walker.

Now, for our look at what Kate wore, beginning with the bespoke double-breasted coat by Alexander McQueen. The tailored design is fitted and midi-length with padded shoulders, peak lapels, button cuffs, front pocket flaps, and a defined waistline.

The coat was first noted at a January 2023 Early Years engagement, and then again on Christmas Day 2024.

Beneath the coat, it looked like the Princess was wearing the Alexander McQueen Ribbed Bodice Sleeveless Dress. I show the off-the-rack version of the dress below, with a knit bodice of finely ribbed material and a full, pleated skirt in viscose. The standard dress had criss-cross bands at the waist, an element not included in the Princess's design. It was first worn publicly when the Prince and Princess viewed floral tributes to the late Queen at Sandringham in September 2022, and was seen again at a March 2023 engagement.

The Princess wore her hair up today.

The elegant hairstyle was topped by her Gina Foster Meribel hat, a velour-felt beret with a perky bow, described as a "Classic velour felt beret hat with stylised felt bow trim." The hat is secured on the head with an elastic band that sits under the hair. It was first noticed at the March 2018 St. Patrick's Day event. See update below.

UPDATE: Yikes, I messed this up! The hat was first noted on Christmas Day 2013.

She also repeated her Ralph Lauren Collection black suede boots.

And the oft-worn Imogen Merino Wool Gloves ($175) in black by Cornelia James.

The Princess brought back her Asprey Emerald and Diamond Halo Earrings. They showcase four emeralds and 72 diamonds set in platinum. They were first worn for the December 2022 Earthshot Awards. Asprey tells me that while the earrings are not kept in regular stock, they can be commissioned, and the company's concierge can address any inquiries about them.

She also wore the Irish Guards' regimental brooch.

I will see you tomorrow as the Prince and Princess of Wales will greet the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, on behalf of the King. Preps have been underway for weeks now ahead of the visit.

Here is one more photo from today.

The Princess Wears Gucci and Shimmering Diamonds for BAFTAs https://whatkatewore.com/2026/02/22/the-princess-wears-gucci-and-shimmering-diamonds-for-baftas/ https://whatkatewore.com/2026/02/22/the-princess-wears-gucci-and-shimmering-diamonds-for-baftas/#comments Sun, 22 Feb 2026 22:41:40 +0000 http://whatkatewore.com/?p=88790 The Princess brought back a Gucci evening gown for tonight's BAFTA gala in London.

The Prince and Princess attended the 79th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), at the Royal Festival Hall. In this photo, you can see the top layer of the Princess's gown floating in the breeze.

Here is Lord-Lieutenant of London Sir Kenneth Olisa greeting the couple as they arrived.

Prince William has been president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010.

And a side view of the gown in this photo of the royals with Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA, in the dark teal.

Another view of the couple.

In this video from Robert Jobson, you can see how the Princess's gown moves.

Once inside, the couple spoke with officials and nominees.

More from The Telegraph's coverage.

The Princess, wearing a pale pink and cream Gucci gown that she previously wore to a 2019 gala, joked that watching Hamnet the night before the ceremony was a “bad idea” because she “ended up with very puffy eyes”.

She said: “It was so beautifully shot. The music as well. The score is fantastic.”

The Princess, a mother-of-three, also shared her appreciation of the film’s “presentation of intergenerational grief”.

She added: “We have a long list of films that we still need to get through.”

This video from Cameron Walker has part of that conversation.

Another view of the couple with Jane Millichip.

Here you see the royals as they make their way to their seats.
And a wide shot.

More from The Daily Mail's story.

William said he had not yet seen Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, and described the vampire movie Sinners as 'a bit dark'.

'I have seen One Battle After Another, that was very good. We were not expecting it to start the way it did.'

The Princess also revealed how Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are now taking a greater interest in films.

Among those presenting awards tonight was Paddington Bear, announcing the winner of the best children's and family film.

Prince William also presented an award.

We learn more from Variety's article.

Prince William paid tribute to NBCUniversal chair Donna Langley as he awarded her BAFTA’s highest honor, the BAFTA Fellowship during the film awards on Sunday night, calling the British-born studio head a “shining light.”

“The path to fellowship is an honor given in recognition of an exceptional contribution to film,” he told the audience, which included many of Langley’s colleagues and collaborators, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Renée Zellweger and Emma Stone. “And tonight’s recipient is quite simply that – exceptional.”

We return to The Telegraph's piece.

In his speech presenting Dame Donna Langley, chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment, with her Bafta Fellowship award, Prince William praised the UK’s creative industries, calling them “one of this country’s greatest strengths”.

He said he would “continue to celebrate and support the talent that makes them shine globally” in his role as president of the Academy.

William also paid tribute to Dame Donna’s “transformative leadership”, noting that she was “the first British woman to run a major Hollywood studio” and ever since has been a “tireless advocate for British talent abroad”.

Dame Donnna as she accepted her award.

The Princess applauds.

And now, we take a look at what Kate wore for tonight's awards. The Gucci gown showcased an intricately ruched bodice and a floaty, flowing skirt. The off-the-shoulder design also featured a burgundy velvet belt at the waist.

Many immediately recognized the blush-pink and burgundy plissé design, a style first worn in February 2019 for a Women in Finance fundraising dinner.

The Prince's jacket coordinated nicely with the gown.

Here is a review of all of the Princess's BAFTA looks through the years. For the 2017 awards, she chose a bespoke off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen design; at the 2018 awards, it was a deep green Jenny Packham gown; in 2019, she wore a white one-shoulder McQueen gown; for the 2020 awards, the Princess wore an Alexander McQueen design first seen during the 2012 Jubilee Tour; at the 2023 awards, she repeated a reworked version of the white McQueen style; and then tonight we saw the Gucci style again.

The Princess accessorized tonight's look with glittering diamond jewelry, including the Greville Chandelier earrings. The earrings were a wedding present for the then-Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and are said to have been a favorite of the late Queen.

We also saw the return of Queen Mary's Diamond Choker Bracelet, an Art Deco style made by Cartier from a necklace originally worn as a choker. You see the Queen wearing it in a postcard photo from the late 1930s, second from the left.

The Princess also repeated her Oscar de la Renta 'Cabrina' pumps in the ‘platinum lamé’ colorway. The point-toe style features scalloped sides, a raised back, and a 4″ heel. Because of a lack of good photos of the shoe, I show the style below as originally worn with this gown.

The Princess also carried her Prada ‘Raso’ Clutch in maroon or burgundy velvet, a hard-sided bag with the brand's logo and a gold-tone clasp.

Also in this post, a quick look at an ensemble worn yesterday by the Princess of Wales.

She attended the Six Nations Rugby Match between England and Ireland at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham. Above, you see her with injured England player Fin Baxter. The Princess is the Rugby Football Union's royal patron.

England lost to Ireland 42-21.

Here is a quick Kensington Palace video of the Princess at the match.

She wore her blue coat by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, first noted on Christmas Day 2023 and then seen again during the German state visit in December of last year.

The Princess carried her Nano Montreal Bag in navy by DeMellier London and wore a new pair of gloves that look like they are from the House of Bruar, the Scottish retailer's Full Leather Gloves ($50) in navy, with thanks to Middleton Maven for that ID. She also wore her England Rugby Core Fan Scarf.

I will leave you with one more photo from yesterday's match.

NOTE: I have received a number of emails from readers concerned about the tone of recent comments on posts, as well as a few from commenters wondering why their comments haven't been published. There is an increased "snarkiness' in some comments, and we need to address this before it becomes a common practice. On my own part, there are some that I have approved and published that, in retrospect, I probably shouldn't have, and I apologize for any errors in judgment on that front. Please, let's make an effort to leave comments that are respectful of the Princess and also of each other.
