Kate chose UK designer Matthew Williamson for the London premiere of African Cats.

It was another soggy day in London, definitely umbrella weather.

The event was a fundraiser for the Tusk Trust, the film is a documentary about lions and cheetahs on the African savannah, focusing on the Masai Mara nature reserve in Kenya.

The dress is from Mr. Williamson’s pre-fall 2012 collection, it features ornate beading, an exposed zipper in the back and that peplum detailing Kate is so fond of.

As you can see from the photos, additional beading at the neck was added to Kate’s frock. I concur with the suggestion made by Kate Middleton Style blog that the embellishment is a nod to the film’s theme and location.

Mr. Williamson’s label is now 15 years old, he is a graduate of the renowned Central Saint Martins school, and is also known for his line of bridal gowns and accessories.

He is also engaged in charity work, below we see him mentoring a child at the Kid’s Company, an organization helping impoverished children in London.

The designer launched a more moderately priced collection last year, MW Matthew Williamson.

And he also has a collection at UK retailer Debenhams, Butterfly by Matthew Williamson.

The Debenhams’ line includes jewelry.

Kate’s jewelry today included her engagement ring and a new pair of Kiki McDonough earrings, the ‘Kiki Classic’ Blue Topaz and Diamond Earrings.

The earrings are “runaway best sellers”, they are priced at £1200, about $1940 at today’s exchange rates. Our thanks to My Small Obsessions for identifying these sparklers.

The dark grey shoes and bag are by Emmy Shoes, many thanks to WKW FB friend Elizabeth for spotting this and Anna for her assistance as well!  Kate’s shoes and bag are very similar to these shown on the Emmy Shoes blog if they were done in grey.

Most recently we saw Kate wearing Emmys on St. Patrick’s Day.

Others attending the benefit included Jacqui Ainsley and Guy Ritchie.

More than 100 children were on hand from charities Kate and William support, you can see more in The Telegraph’s video about the event, click here.

The BBC’s story may be seen here.

I liked the dress and accessories, they seemed appropriate to the occasion, although the beading looked very heavy. Mr. Williams has a deft hand with color, cut and embellishment, we have long hoped the Duchess would wear his designs.

Kate fans will be pleased with the enormous number of anniversary-themed publications being released around the couple’s one year anniversary. The Telegraph is devoting eight pages to the couple on Saturday, and Sunday’s paper will have a special supplement, Kate One Year On: The Making of a Fashion Icon.

The London Telegraph

More on the glossy insert from the paper:

“The booklet includes features on Kate’s high street style and the impact she has on the industry, as well as showcasing the best of her designer outfits, including of course that Alexander McQueen wedding dress.”

Here is a look at an interior spread.

OK! offers an ‘Anniversary Special,‘ including a free DVD; Hello! has also published a ‘Special Collector’s Edition,‘ while Majesty has the couple on its cover and carries additional anniversary coverage.

We have a quick update to the royal calendar, in addition to William and Kate’s appearances tomorrow (receptions honoring the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race to the South Pole, and another at the Imperial War Museum), the couple will be attending the Badminton Horse Trials on Monday, May 7. Here is more on that function from the UK Press Association’s story:

Zara Phillips will be cheered on by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as she tries to earn an Olympic place at the Badminton Horse Trials.

The royals will watch the showjumping on May 7, the last element of the trials held in Gloucestershire, which include a dressage element and a gruelling cross-country course.

Competitors will receive their prizes from William and Kate, who are expected to be rooting for the duke’s cousin Ms Phillips, a former equestrian world champion.

Here you see work being done last month on the course, prepping for the upcoming Trials.

That seating for spectators? Not so fast.

You can learn more at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse trials site, or the group’s Facebook page.

Other dates on the calendar you can pencil in:

  • Saturday, June 2, Epsom Derby: The annual event takes on special significance this year, the Queen has reportedly said she would like a full house for the event
  • Sunday, June 3, Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on June 3: while there has not yet been a formal announcement of William and Kate’s participation in this function, I would be surprised if they are not in attendance.
  • Monday, June 4, Diamond Jubilee Concert: Again, no formal announcement, but I am sure we will see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at some point in the day.
  • Tuesday, June 5, Diamond Jubilee Events: Her Majesty, Prince Philip and all of the royals are expected for the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s, official luncheon, carriage procession and balcony appearance for a flyover on the 5th.
  • Saturday, June 16: Trooping the Colour (thank you to WKW Facebook friend Trisha for reminding me about this function)
  • Thursday, July 26: Olympic Flame at Buckingham Palace. Kate, William, and Harry will watch three torchbearers carry the torch through the Palace grounds. The Olympic Games officially launch the next day, I imagine we’ll also see the couple at other Olympic events, probably those Opening Ceremonies as well as the Closing Ceremonies.

Finally today, InStyle has a fun poll on Kate’s best looks from the last year.

InStyle asked four Kate style bloggers to submit their choice of Kate’s best look during the last year, we are ever-so-flattered to be included with our friends Carly from Kate Middleton Style Blog, Sarah of Kate’s Wardrobe and Charlotte from HRH Duchess Kate.

Our thanks to Sharon for putting together such a fun piece, click here to see the styles and cast your vote.

Apr 202012

Hello, and happy almost-weekend. We wanted to share some update and other tidbits, perhaps the most interesting information is Kate and William’s upcoming appearances.

  • This Wednesday, the 25th, the couple will attend the London première of African Cats, a documentary about lions and cheetahs on the African savannah. The function is a fundraiser for the Tusk Trust, I don’t know the specific time yet, but it is an evening affair.  The event is at the National Film Theater in London, also known as BFI (British Film Institute) Southbank.

Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race

“They will honour the two serving British Army teams who raced 900 miles across Antarctica in 2011 and 2012 to pay homage to the extraordinary race to the South Pole between Captain Scott and Roald Amundsen a century ago.

The expedition raised funds for the British Legion’s £30 million commitment to help wounded and sick service people recover.

  • Also on Thursday the 26th, Kate and William attend a reception at the Imperial War Museum. This event also honors an anniversary, the Museum is debuting its Centenary Commemorations. More from the IWM’s website:

“2014-2018 marks the centenary of the First World War, a landmark anniversary for Britain and the world. Working in collaboration with our peers and colleagues from national and international organisations, IWM will mark the centenary by leading a vibrant four-year programme of cultural activities across the UK.”

A busy schedule for the couple, the royal calendar becomes even more crowded as the Queen’s Jubilee approaches.

Last week we shared the first three pair of William and Kate wax figures at varying Madame Tussauds, this week saw the unveiling of the fourth and final pair at Madame Tussauds Blackpool.

New York Bridal Week wrapped up over the weekend, several of Kate’s favorite designers showed their collections, including Jenny Packham. Below, Ms. Packham’s Marigold gown.

Another bridal style from Jenny Packham, the Mimosa, this frock in another color has ‘Kate potential’.

You can see the entire collection of spring 2013 bridal gowns on the Jenny Packham Facebook page.

Also showing at Bridal Week, Temperley London, we thought it would be fun to show Kate in one of the designer’s gowns at the War Horse première, side by side with the bridal version of the dress.

We have several updates to share, beginning with an ID on the jeans Kate wore when meeting the Team GB Hockey players back on March 15.

Splash News

Most will remember Kate’s classic Pucci blazer and official Olympic scarf paired with those distinctive coral jeans.

Lia Hervey-SkyNewsOlympic Twitter Feed (L)/Great Britain Hockey UK (R)

Originally we thought these might be J Brand’s 811 style, but that was not the case. Identifying the exact make of jeans was a challenge for the intrepid fashion experts on the WKW Facebook page, they refused to give up until the proper pair was located. Many pair were perused and rejected, photos of details examined, color comparisons made; the conclusion is that Kate was in a pair by Zara.

Zara Pop Slim Fit

These are the Zara Pop Slim Fit in Red, the color we believe Kate wore; they are currently £39.99 in the UK, while the US site shows them in Fluroscent Pink and Fluroscent Yellow, priced at $79.99. I concur with the collective wisdom on this one, and would love to thank everyone involved individually, but they all said they would prefer a group credit.

Kate was also in the jeans when she took royal pooch Lupo for a walk before heading out to connect with Charles & Camilla. (For our original post on the Olympic Hockey event and the Duchess’s engagement with Prince Charles and Camilla later that evening, click here.)

Many know that Kate and William vacationed for a week following his return from the Falklands. Hello! magazine shared first photos from their trip to Courchevel’s famed ski slopes.

Hello! Magazine April 2012

The Duke & Duchess joined the rest of the Middleton clan on the getaway, along with George Percy. (Rumors persist Pippa and Mr. Percy are romantically involved, they were flatmates at Edinburgh University.) To see the entire Hello! story, click here, or visit PopSugar to see 135 photos from the vacation.

Madame Tussauds unveiled its four William and Kate figures last week, they are being showcased at four different Tussauds locations. In London the Kate figurine is in a replica of the blue Issa dress worn for her engagement announcement.

Courtesy Madame Tussauds

The Daily Mail offers this from its story about the unveiling of the lifelike figures:

Prince William is in a replica of the Gieves and Hawkes navy two piece single breasted suit recreated by the renowned tailors… a replica of the Omega Seamaster watch he wore on his engagement day.

Tussauds revealed that the couple were kept closely informed of work on the figures at every stage of the creation, a process continuing a relationship with the Royal family that goes back 180 years, when Madame Tussaud opened her first attraction in London featuring the figure of King William IV.

For those wondering about the accessories and clothing seen on the Tussauds figures, here is more from the Museum’s website:

“…an exact copy of the stunning blue Issa London dress she wore on the day of the announcement, exclusively created by the Issa design team.”

Those visiting the Tussauds in New York will see Kate in a precise replica of the Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the BAFTA dinner in Los Angeles last summer.

More detailed photos.

If visiting Tussauds in Amsterdam, you will see Kate wearing the black lace Temperley gown seen at the ‘War Horse’ première in January.

Next week Tussauds Blackpool will unveil the fourth set of William and Kate figures, the Duchess will be in a replica of the rose Jenny Packham gown worn to the ARK dinner last June.

Speaking of film openings, we’ll have another red carpet appearance by Kate and William: Wednesday the 25th they will attend the London premiere of African Cats, a documentary about lions and cheetahs trying to survive on the African savannah.

Disney via The Mirror

The event is a fundraiser for the Tusk Trust,

Since its formation in 1990 Tusk has raised over $25 million for a wide range of projects across Africa which not only work to protect wildlife, particularly endangered species, but also help to alleviate poverty, through sustainable development and education amongst rural communities who live alongside wildlife.

More than 100 children will be in attendance at the gala, all from the varying charities Kate and William sponsor.

In addition to that film opening, Kate and William are expected to make two more appearances this month, thanks to Richard Palmer for that information.

Also, there’s word that Kate will be doubling her number of patronages, adding four more by the end of the year. More in this story by Victoria Murphy:

She will spend the next few months making low-key visits to charities to help her decide which ones to support.

A Palace source said: “Everyone has been keen to make sure she has been eased into royal life, but it is going well and she is ready to step things up a bit.”

The Mirror piece explains an announcement on the additional charities will be made sometime in December.

We’ll be back in a few days with more updates, as well as a look at spring (and fall!) styles from some of Kate’s favorite retailers.
