LIVE BLOG — IT’S A BABY GIRL, A PRINCESS OF CAMBRIDGE

We now move to live blogging of the events in London. The most recent updates will appear at the top of the page. NOTE: Unless otherwise specified all times shown are EDT (Eastern Daylight Time)

1:15PM UPDATE:

  • The Cambridge family has headed home to Kensington Palace.

  • We will leave this live blog shortly to work on bringing you a post about what Kate wore this afternoon.

Kate is wearing a Jenny Packham dress, her pearl drop earrings and shoes that I haven’t looked for yet. The dress looks like a bespoke creation, perhaps a lightweight silk. I’m not sure if one could call the design dégradé, it more properly might be termed a “placed print.”

12:30PM UPDATE:

  • Georgina Brewer of ITV reports that the photo of all 4 Cambridges many are hoping for won’t happen. From Georgina’s Twitter feed: “No George as Kate William and baby leave! Shame. Not the shot all media were looking for. George gone to bed and returned to KP.”
  • Kensington Palace is confirming Kate will leave the hospital this evening with her new baby girl; that should happen at approximately 1:30pm EDT/10:30AM PDT (6:30 local time in London.)
  • In some photos Prince George seems a little nonplussed, in others he looks quite comfortable.

10:30AM UPDATE:

  • UPDATING: It will be Prince William we’ll see shortly, he is going home to spend time with Prince George.
  • There is increased activity at the Lindo Wing, and while there’s no confirmation the family will be leaving soon, it seems likely a recap of live streams will be helpful:

9AM UPDATE:

  • Her Majesty is in N. Yorkshire today for a ceremony and parade with The Queen’s Royal Lancers. We’re guessing the choice of that vibrant pink coat wasn’t by accident.

8AM UPDATE:

  • Media has been told that *if* they will be coming out today, we will have 30 minutes notice.
  • There are reports that Kate’s hairdresser, Amanda Cook Tucker, has arrived at the Lindo Wing. This could well point to a ‘today departure,’ I will try for verification.

We will continue to repeat the live stream information, in addition to the feeds we have embedded and viewable here on the blog. This first is ABC News, just click the arrow to get it rolling.

The biggest questions at this point:

  • will the Middletons come for a visit?
  • will Prince George come to visit his sister?
  • will Kate and the new Princess be staying the night in the hospital, or will we see her with William and the new baby on the steps of the Lindo Wing later today?

Royal Photographer Mark Stewart made this observation just moments ago.

I think those shoes are Jimmy Choo's Gilbert. I have them and they look like mine.

Well! I got up this morning to see hubby off to work and just checked my sky news ap at 6.35am and news was just breaking! What a start to a perfect day of royal watching! O.m.g - George is just beautiful! I see a strong look of Aunty Pippa in him. Hats off to Kate for facing the worlds media hours after delivering an 8lb baby! I'm guessing this was quite a rapid delivery and do believe she was in very early labour when she was admitted. The timing if her arrival suited well when things were nice and quiet rather than later when she ran a higher risk of being spotted! Ok - the dress! It's a thumbs down from me. I thought it was very shapeless - not at all as flattering as the dress she wore leaving with George. The print was very dated and even her tights were very pale - I'd have liked a deeper tan shade. All said, I thought she was exhausted, relying on holding Williams hand negotiating the steps on both occasions. I'm so happy for them but DREAD the quiet months ahead. Can you picture the scene in KP when they arrived home - waited on hand and foot, Jo Malone candles lit, fires on, fork supper in the lounge with the family and of course, bubbly on ice! Perfection!

I believe the baby's blanket is the Elegant Soft Wool Baby Shawl by G. H. Hurt & Son (GBP 68). Here is a link to their website with more photos of the blanket.

As many of you already know, G. H. Hurt also produced the Superfine Merino Wool Christening Shawl that was wrapped around Price George when he was first presented to the public in front of the Lindo Wing 21 months ago..

Thank you again for your detailed updates on any-and-all things baby Cambridge! What an exciting day for all of us!

I love the duchess' hair today but am not a huge fan of her dress. The Jenny Packham from 2013 was roomy but still had a shape to it. This dress just kind of hangs there... The flowers also remind me of a 1970s housewife outfit.

But, who am I to judge? She's a stunning beauty and looks fresher and more glamorous 10 hours post baby than I can even hope to look at the best of times :)

Let's face it, she'd look great in a burlap sack but the dress disappointed me too. Reminded me of a night gown. I think you are right that she was exhausted and just wanted to get home. I was disappointed that they didn't linger longer to talk to the press but PG making an appearance all but made up for it. Waiting anxiously for the name.
