It’s Gabriela Hearst for Wimbledon

It’s Gabriela Hearst for Wimbledon

The Princess chose a vibrant blue suit by Gabriela Hearst for the fourth day of Wimbledon.

She started her day by visiting the line of people queued up to purchase tickets, some of whom had camped out overnight in hopes of buying them.

We learn more details via this People story by Stephanie Petit.

Princess Kate delighted fans by starting her engagement with a visit to Wimbledon’s infamous line, where she met tennis fans who had camped out in the hopes of securing a prestigious ticket to one of the tournament’s games. She then went to work, handing out tickets to the dedicated fans.

The mom of three also met with AELTC’s Honorary Stewards, who volunteer each year to manage the line and welcome guests as they arrive at the Championships.

More about the Princess’s history with ‘The Queue’ from this Daily Mirror article

In 2023, Kate told British number one Emma Raducanu how she had waited in the queue for tickets during her childhood. The Princess of Wales told how she waited in line with her dad, Michael, and sister, Pippa, when she was a little girl.

She said they would be waiting at “the crack of dawn”. She said: “I used to do that. It meant so much to be able to get the ground passes and be part of the championships”.

Many readers will recall the Princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC). Here you see her posing for a selfie.

Additional details come from The Daily Mail’s coverage:

She was also overheard telling two attendees ‘have a really fun time’ as she handed them their tickets.

The Princess greeted those who had been waiting for entry into SW19 and hailed the queue as an ‘accessible’ entry point.

Speaking to two excited children, Kate asked them if they were big tennis fans, to which they smiled and nodded.

One attendee congratulated the princess on her recent Three Peaks challenge.

And posing for another selfie.

The Princess then helped out in the ticket office.

The Daily Mail offers additional information in this piece

When distributing tickets, and operating a card machine, the Princess apologised for ‘taking ages’ and told relieved attendees that they must be ‘desperate to get in and have a drink’ after queuing for so long.

You can just make out the Princess in this photo as she walked to her next event.

Here is a quick video that Christin posted as the Princess headed to Court 18.

This is where she watched Britain’s Arthur Fery take on Finland’s Otto Virtanen in their second-round match. In this photo, you see Debbie Jevans, CBE, chair of the All England Club, on the Princess’s right, and Tim Henman, OBE, a former quarter-finalist at Wimbledon and a board member at the club.

And for Fery, the princess’s presence proved a good omen as he ended up beating Virtanen to advance to the next round of the tournament.

Asked about Kate watching his son, Fery’s French dad Loic, 52, said: “I’ve received hundreds of photos showing that she was here. He’s a big fan, so I’m sure he’d be very happy to meet her.

“He’s a big fan of the Royal Family. You know, England means a lot and Great Britain means a lot because he grew up here. And he’s always, despite having two French parents, he’s always been very, very attached to playing for a team from GB.

“He played for Davis Cup last year. It was one of the biggest honours he could have. And he was so proud of it and he won.”

Another quick video.

The Princess then moved to Court 1. Here you see her heading to her seat with Anne Keothavong MBE (in pale pink dress), a former British Number One player for five years.

Andy Murray joined them to watch the match between British player Katie Swan and Madison Keys of the USA.

Tennis fans may remember that in 2013 Sir Andy became the first British man to win the Wimbledon singles title in 77 years.

Ms. Keys won the match.

Next on the agenda, spending some time with members of Shine Camera Club. The Daily Mirror’s Russell Myers reports the club is a “creative photography program based within the charity SHINE Merton which supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop confidence, creativity and self-expression through photography.

Before retiring for a private lunch, Kate also spoke with the children from Shine Camera Club, established in 2021, who had laid out the polaroids they had taken of The Championships.

Viewing one particular shot of a tree, the Princess said: “I love that tree, look at that, I love that. It’s very abstract…it’s a good spot, well done.”

While speaking to the group about the importance of photography and arts, she said: “Creativity is such a good way of exploring your emotions.”

This Telegraph piece by India McTaggart has more.

Later, she added: “I’m such an advocate for this sort of creativity and for supporting young people finding different ways to explore life beyond technology and outside of school. And doing it in such a communal way like this I think is really fantastic.”

The Princess also discussed how powerful photography is for storytelling, saying: “What’s really nice is that it can be really personal but actually you can do it together as a group and it’s a really good way of storytelling isn’t it, whether it’s your personal story or a story about others. That’s what I think, it’s very powerful as a creative medium isn’t it, to be able to tell stories like that.”

A quick sidebar: the Duchess of Gloucester was also at Wimbledon today, seen here in the Royal Box.

Now, for our look at what Kate wore for day three of the Championships at Wimbledon. We begin with her sapphire blue suit by Gabriela Hearst.

The Stephanie Blazer ($1881 originally, $1223 most recently) is a double-breasted style crafted in a blend of virgin wool, silk, and linen.

It includes peaked lapels, self-covered buttons, angled and welted front flap pockets, a center-back vent, button cuffs, and padded shoulders.

The coordinating Vesta Trousers ($1045 originally, $763 on sale) are made from the same fabric blend and feature a flared, wide-leg silhouette.

Design elements include a high waistline, angled side pockets, adjustable tabs at the waistband, a front zipper with hook-and-bar closure, and welted back pockets. Thank you to UFO No More and Gabi for their speedy ID work on this.

Beneath the jacket, it looked like the Princess brought back her H&M Off-the-Shoulder Rib-Knit Top, shown below when worn at a previous engagement.

The Princess carried her Anya Hindmarch bag again, the British brand’s Neeson Small Square Tote ($1490) in the ‘Chalk’ colorway, seen here when carried to the Championships last year. The handwoven leather bag offers adjustable handles and a zippered top.

We saw the return of the Princess’s Ralph Lauren Celia Pumps (now sold out).

The Princess repeated her Ralph Lauren Sunglasses ($96) in the Havana colorway. (I did find them 50% off at Sunglass Hut.)

The Princess styled her hair in a high ponytail.

All the better to allow a good view of her Carousel Jewels Stella Lapis and Moonstone Earrings ($232, available for pre-order), first noted in April 2023 when attending the Easter service at Windsor. They are sterling silver with a 22K gold finish.

The Princess also wore an unidentified string bracelet on her left wrist.

I will leave you with one more photo from today.

I like a good suit but would have loved to see her in a dress. I mean isn't it hot in Wimbledon? Dresses are so much cooler. Also interesting she is not wearing her purple Wimbledon ribbon. Guess she will save it when she is in the Royal box?

Good Lord, do you mean that the POW needs to sit that closely to her benchmates? I would hope that she could have a little elbow room. I did not notice that she wore the purple & green bow pin that sets her apart as the Royal Patron. Thanks so much, Susan, as ever, for your meticulous coverage. The Princess looks wonderful, happy, and relaxed!

The colour of this suit is absolutely divine!

I would not be surprised if one of her children made the string bracelet.

I was very much looking forward to Kate wearing a dress for Wimbledon. I think the pant suits that she started wearing frequently after the death of Queen Elizabeth are making a statement, a point although I am not sure who the statement is for. I have the same feeling when Kate is wearing something envoking Diana, like blue coat dress with white detailing or a polka dot dress that looked almost exactly like one of Diana’s outfits, which is always picked up in press coverage.

But for Wimbledon she always wore something uniquely hers, and it was always a dress or a skirt. So I am a bit disappointed.

She looked fantastic today. I loved the suit; even though I’m not a fan of linen suits, the blue color is stunning and made the princess stand out in the crowd. I loved that she wore her hair in a ponytail—it really highlighted her face and showed off her beautiful earrings. My only complaint is the length of the trousers; they seem right on the verge of dragging on the ground. If they were just a few centimeters shorter, they would be perfect.
