It’s Gabriela Hearst for Wimbledon

It’s Gabriela Hearst for Wimbledon

The Princess chose a vibrant blue suit by Gabriela Hearst for the fourth day of Wimbledon.

She started her day by visiting the line of people queued up to purchase tickets, some of whom had camped out overnight in hopes of buying them.

We learn more details via this People story by Stephanie Petit.

Princess Kate delighted fans by starting her engagement with a visit to Wimbledon’s infamous line, where she met tennis fans who had camped out in the hopes of securing a prestigious ticket to one of the tournament’s games. She then went to work, handing out tickets to the dedicated fans.

The mom of three also met with AELTC’s Honorary Stewards, who volunteer each year to manage the line and welcome guests as they arrive at the Championships.

More about the Princess’s history with ‘The Queue’ from this Daily Mirror article

In 2023, Kate told British number one Emma Raducanu how she had waited in the queue for tickets during her childhood. The Princess of Wales told how she waited in line with her dad, Michael, and sister, Pippa, when she was a little girl.

She said they would be waiting at “the crack of dawn”. She said: “I used to do that. It meant so much to be able to get the ground passes and be part of the championships”.

Many readers will recall the Princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC). Here you see her posing for a selfie.

Additional details come from The Daily Mail’s coverage:

She was also overheard telling two attendees ‘have a really fun time’ as she handed them their tickets.

The Princess greeted those who had been waiting for entry into SW19 and hailed the queue as an ‘accessible’ entry point.

Speaking to two excited children, Kate asked them if they were big tennis fans, to which they smiled and nodded.

One attendee congratulated the princess on her recent Three Peaks challenge.

And posing for another selfie.

The Princess then helped out in the ticket office.

The Daily Mail offers additional information in this piece

When distributing tickets, and operating a card machine, the Princess apologised for ‘taking ages’ and told relieved attendees that they must be ‘desperate to get in and have a drink’ after queuing for so long.

You can just make out the Princess in this photo as she walked to her next event.

Here is a quick video that Christin posted as the Princess headed to Court 18.

This is where she watched Britain’s Arthur Fery take on Finland’s Otto Virtanen in their second-round match. In this photo, you see Debbie Jevans, CBE, chair of the All England Club, on the Princess’s right, and Tim Henman, OBE, a former quarter-finalist at Wimbledon and a board member at the club.

And for Fery, the princess’s presence proved a good omen as he ended up beating Virtanen to advance to the next round of the tournament.

Asked about Kate watching his son, Fery’s French dad Loic, 52, said: “I’ve received hundreds of photos showing that she was here. He’s a big fan, so I’m sure he’d be very happy to meet her.

“He’s a big fan of the Royal Family. You know, England means a lot and Great Britain means a lot because he grew up here. And he’s always, despite having two French parents, he’s always been very, very attached to playing for a team from GB.

“He played for Davis Cup last year. It was one of the biggest honours he could have. And he was so proud of it and he won.”

Another quick video.

The Princess then moved to Court 1. Here you see her heading to her seat with Anne Keothavong MBE (in pale pink dress), a former British Number One player for five years.

Andy Murray joined them to watch the match between British player Katie Swan and Madison Keys of the USA.

Tennis fans may remember that in 2013 Sir Andy became the first British man to win the Wimbledon singles title in 77 years.

Ms. Keys won the match.

Next on the agenda, spending some time with members of Shine Camera Club. The Daily Mirror’s Russell Myers reports the club is a “creative photography program based within the charity SHINE Merton which supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop confidence, creativity and self-expression through photography.

We return to The Mirror’s piece

Before retiring for a private lunch, Kate also spoke with the children from Shine Camera Club, established in 2021, who had laid out the polaroids they had taken of The Championships.

Viewing one particular shot of a tree, the Princess said: “I love that tree, look at that, I love that. It’s very abstract…it’s a good spot, well done.”

While speaking to the group about the importance of photography and arts, she said: “Creativity is such a good way of exploring your emotions.”

This Telegraph piece by India McTaggart has more.

Later, she added: “I’m such an advocate for this sort of creativity and for supporting young people finding different ways to explore life beyond technology and outside of school. And doing it in such a communal way like this I think is really fantastic.”

The Princess also discussed how powerful photography is for storytelling, saying: “What’s really nice is that it can be really personal but actually you can do it together as a group and it’s a really good way of storytelling isn’t it, whether it’s your personal story or a story about others. That’s what I think, it’s very powerful as a creative medium isn’t it, to be able to tell stories like that.”

A quick sidebar: the Duchess of Gloucester was also at Wimbledon today, seen here in the Royal Box.

Now, for our look at what Kate wore for day three of the Championships at Wimbledon. We begin with her sapphire blue suit by Gabriela Hearst.

The Stephanie Blazer ($1881 originally, $1223 most recently) is a double-breasted style crafted in a blend of virgin wool, silk, and linen.

It includes peaked lapels, self-covered buttons, angled and welted front flap pockets, a center-back vent, button cuffs, and padded shoulders.

The coordinating Vesta Trousers ($1045 originally, $763 on sale) are made from the same fabric blend and feature a flared, wide-leg silhouette.

Design elements include a high waistline, angled side pockets, adjustable tabs at the waistband, a front zipper with hook-and-bar closure, and welted back pockets. Thank you to UFO No More and Gabi for their speedy ID work on this.

Beneath the jacket, it looked like the Princess brought back her H&M Off-the-Shoulder Rib-Knit Top, shown below when worn at a previous engagement.

The Princess carried her Anya Hindmarch bag again, the British brand’s Neeson Small Square Tote ($1490) in the ‘Chalk’ colorway, seen here when carried to the Championships last year. The handwoven leather bag offers adjustable handles and a zippered top.

We saw the return of the Princess’s Ralph Lauren Celia Pumps (now sold out).

The Princess repeated her Ralph Lauren Sunglasses ($96) in the Havana colorway. (I did find them 50% off at Sunglass Hut.)

The Princess styled her hair in a high ponytail.

All the better to allow a good view of her Carousel Jewels Stella Lapis and Moonstone Earrings ($232, available for pre-order), first noted in April 2023 when attending the Easter service at Windsor. They are sterling silver with a 22K gold finish.

The Princess also wore an unidentified string bracelet on her left wrist.

I will leave you with one more photo from today.

The colour of the pant suit is absolutely stunning and the princess stands out wonderfully in the crowds. But the suit seems to be baggy and a bit overwhelming. I also think the fabric could be a bit softer to suit the princess’s beautifully delicate features.

Wow! I have a summer pantsuit in the exact same colour as the one Kate has chosen for Wimbledon. Mine is also a linen blend, which doesn't wrinkle the way pure linen does. There are a few differences, however. My suit has short sleeves and tapered pants and of course, it is not in the same price range. I also have lapis earrings, but mine are smaller and have lapis stones top and bottom, with no moonstone. I think this is the closest I've ever come to matching Kate.

The Princess of Wales looks great today, although a dress might have been cooler. The extreme heat is now over in Britain, but it is still summer. I'd say the jacket is a bit too full in the upper sleeves and the pants are also too full and too long. Sigh, I guess that is the style. I also note that Kate is not wearing a hat, albeit some have speculated that her recent run of large brim hats, might be due to sensitivity after chemo treatment. Not sure why she didn't wear a more comfortable shoe, perhaps in the colour tone and casualness of her tote bag. Kate has worn these cognac coloured shoes frequently and so often they have not enhanced her outfit. I love her hair in a ponytail, especially since she has only worn her hair this way a handful of times, at public engagements. A ponytail keeps her hair neatly away from her face, without the formality of an updo.

Kate speaks of childhood memories of early morning lining up, with her family, hoping to get tickets for the tennis matches. What a switch to now being a Patron of Wimbledon, often mingling with the tennis greats and other celebrities, in the Royal box.

The color of this suit is SOOOO beautiful! I agree that "sapphire" would not be the word I would use to describe it. It looks like the fabric would be quite nice, and I love the bound buttonholes.

What a wonderful color on the PoW! The vibrant blue is perfect for the day, but the suit lacks the customary perfect tailoring we are used to. The suit is large and too long on the pictured model so maybe that is the style? I do love the high pony tail which is also so appropriate for the setting and warm summer day. She certainly thrilled the crowd with her surprise visit to the queue and ticket area. What a treat for them!

I would like to see a knit top with a print instead of the solid white or cream that Catherine always wears.
