She started her day by visiting the line of people queued up to purchase tickets, some of whom had camped out overnight in hopes of buying them.

We learn more details via this People story by Stephanie Petit.

Princess Kate delighted fans by starting her engagement with a visit to Wimbledon's infamous line, where she met tennis fans who had camped out in the hopes of securing a prestigious ticket to one of the tournament's games. She then went to work, handing out tickets to the dedicated fans.

The mom of three also met with AELTC's Honorary Stewards, who volunteer each year to manage the line and welcome guests as they arrive at the Championships.

More about the Princess's history with 'The Queue' from this Daily Mirror article.

In 2023, Kate told British number one Emma Raducanu how she had waited in the queue for tickets during her childhood. The Princess of Wales told how she waited in line with her dad, Michael, and sister, Pippa, when she was a little girl.

She said they would be waiting at "the crack of dawn". She said: "I used to do that. It meant so much to be able to get the ground passes and be part of the championships".

Many readers will recall the Princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC). Here you see her posing for a selfie.

Additional details come from The Daily Mail's coverage:

She was also overheard telling two attendees 'have a really fun time' as she handed them their tickets.

The Princess greeted those who had been waiting for entry into SW19 and hailed the queue as an 'accessible' entry point.

Speaking to two excited children, Kate asked them if they were big tennis fans, to which they smiled and nodded.

One attendee congratulated the princess on her recent Three Peaks challenge.

And posing for another selfie.

The Princess then helped out in the ticket office.

The Daily Mail offers additional information in this piece.

When distributing tickets, and operating a card machine, the Princess apologised for 'taking ages' and told relieved attendees that they must be 'desperate to get in and have a drink' after queuing for so long.

You can just make out the Princess in this photo as she walked to her next event.

Here is a quick video that Christin posted as the Princess headed to Court 18.

This is where she watched Britain's Arthur Fery take on Finland's Otto Virtanen in their second-round match. In this photo, you see Debbie Jevans, CBE, chair of the All England Club, on the Princess's right, and Tim Henman, OBE, a former quarter-finalist at Wimbledon and a board member at the club.

We learn more from The Mirror's article.

And for Fery, the princess’s presence proved a good omen as he ended up beating Virtanen to advance to the next round of the tournament.

Asked about Kate watching his son, Fery's French dad Loic, 52, said: "I've received hundreds of photos showing that she was here. He's a big fan, so I'm sure he'd be very happy to meet her.

"He's a big fan of the Royal Family. You know, England means a lot and Great Britain means a lot because he grew up here. And he's always, despite having two French parents, he's always been very, very attached to playing for a team from GB.

"He played for Davis Cup last year. It was one of the biggest honours he could have. And he was so proud of it and he won."

Another quick video.

The Princess then moved to Court 1. Here you see her heading to her seat with Anne Keothavong MBE (in pale pink dress), a former British Number One player for five years.

Andy Murray joined them to watch the match between British player Katie Swan and Madison Keys of the USA.

Tennis fans may remember that in 2013 Sir Andy became the first British man to win the Wimbledon singles title in 77 years.

Ms. Keys won the match.

Next on the agenda, spending some time with members of Shine Camera Club. The Daily Mirror's Russell Myers reports the club is a "creative photography program based within the charity SHINE Merton which supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop confidence, creativity and self-expression through photography.

We return to The Mirror's piece.

Before retiring for a private lunch, Kate also spoke with the children from Shine Camera Club, established in 2021, who had laid out the polaroids they had taken of The Championships.

Viewing one particular shot of a tree, the Princess said: “I love that tree, look at that, I love that. It’s very abstract…it’s a good spot, well done.”

While speaking to the group about the importance of photography and arts, she said: “Creativity is such a good way of exploring your emotions.”

This Telegraph piece by India McTaggart has more.

Later, she added: “I’m such an advocate for this sort of creativity and for supporting young people finding different ways to explore life beyond technology and outside of school. And doing it in such a communal way like this I think is really fantastic.”

The Princess also discussed how powerful photography is for storytelling, saying: “What’s really nice is that it can be really personal but actually you can do it together as a group and it’s a really good way of storytelling isn’t it, whether it’s your personal story or a story about others. That’s what I think, it’s very powerful as a creative medium isn’t it, to be able to tell stories like that.”

This video from Kensington Palace covers the Shine Camera Club portion of the day.

A quick sidebar: the Duchess of Gloucester was also at Wimbledon today, seen here in the Royal Box.

Now, for our look at what Kate wore for day three of the Championships at Wimbledon. We begin with her sapphire blue suit by Gabriela Hearst.

The Stephanie Blazer ($1881 originally, $1223 most recently) is a double-breasted style crafted in a blend of virgin wool, silk, and linen.

It includes peaked lapels, self-covered buttons, angled and welted front flap pockets, a center-back vent, button cuffs, and padded shoulders.

UPDATE JULY 3: With thanks to Middleton Maven for the tip, Gabriela Hearst now has the jacket available for preorder, with shipping expected by October 28. It is officially called the Stephanie Blazer in Sapphire Virgin Wool and Silk Linen ($2190). The Vesta trouser is also available for preorder. Its official name is Vesta Pant in Sapphire Virgin Wool and Silk Linen ($1090).

The coordinating Vesta Trousers ($1045 originally, $763 on sale) are made from the same fabric blend and feature a flared, wide-leg silhouette.

Design elements include a high waistline, angled side pockets, adjustable tabs at the waistband, a front zipper with hook-and-bar closure, and welted back pockets. Thank you to UFO No More and Gabi for their speedy ID work on this.

Beneath the jacket, it looked like the Princess brought back her H&M Off-the-Shoulder Rib-Knit Top, shown below when worn at a previous engagement.

The Princess carried her Anya Hindmarch bag again, the British brand's Neeson Small Square Tote ($1490) in the 'Chalk' colorway, seen here when carried to the Championships last year. The handwoven leather bag offers adjustable handles and a zippered top.

We saw the return of the Princess's Ralph Lauren Celia Pumps (now sold out).

The Princess repeated her Ralph Lauren Sunglasses ($79) in the Havana colorway. (I did find them 50% off at Sunglass Hut.)

The Princess styled her hair in a high ponytail.

All the better to allow a good view of her Carousel Jewels Stella Lapis and Moonstone Earrings ($232, available for pre-order), first noted in April 2023 when attending the Easter service at Windsor. They are sterling silver with a 22K gold finish.

The Princess also wore an unidentified string bracelet on her left wrist.

I will leave you with one more photo from today.

The Princess in Alexander McQueen for V&A Storehouse Engagement https://whatkatewore.com/2025/06/10/the-princess-in-alexander-mcqueen-for-va-storehouse-engagement/ https://whatkatewore.com/2025/06/10/the-princess-in-alexander-mcqueen-for-va-storehouse-engagement/#comments Tue, 10 Jun 2025 19:22:32 +0000 https://whatkatewore.com/?p=87070 The Princess chose a navy and white ensemble for today's visit to the new V&A East Storehouse.

The Storehouse just opened to the public two weeks ago. The Princess has been the V&A's patron since 2018. Today, she enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum's newest facility.

Simon Perry has more in his People article.

The Princess of Wales, 43, stepped out in East London on June 10 to visit the new V&A East Storehouse, a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum that offers unprecedented public access to more than 500,000 objects spanning fashion, film, visual art, design and performance.

During Tuesday's engagement, Kate toured the East Storehouse behind the scenes, observing how pieces in the museum’s vast archive are collected, conserved and displayed. Wherever possible, glass barriers have been removed to allow visitors to get closer than ever to the historic works.

We learn more about the facility from this AP piece.

The 16,000-square-meter (170,000-square-foot) building, bigger than 30 basketball courts, holds more than 250,000 objects, 350,000 books and 1,000 archives. Wandering its huge, three-story collections hall feels like a trip to IKEA, but with treasures at every turn.

The V&A is Britain’s national museum of design, performance and applied arts, and the storehouse holds aisle after aisle of open shelves lined with everything from ancient Egyptian shoes to Roman pottery, ancient Indian sculptures, Japanese armor, Modernist furniture, a Piaggio scooter and a brightly painted garbage can from the Glastonbury Festival.

Here you see the Princess with the V&A's director, Tristam Hunt.

And in this image, the Princess is shown the largest Picasso canvas in the world. The Daily Mail reports, "The gigantic canvas measuring 30m by 40m has spent most of the last 80 years rolled up in storage."

The canvas was created as a backdrop for the Ballets Russes' 1924 season. The Telegraph explains, "The picture, which the Princess stood in front of, is a copy of the original 1922 painting Two Women Running on the Beach, created by another artist but which so impressed Picasso that he later signed it personally, making it authentic in the eyes of the art world." Below is a quick video of the Princess viewing the canvas.

In this next image, you see the Princess looking at a 19th-century riding habit with Oriole Cullen (c), the museum's senior fashion and textiles curator, and Kate Parsons (r), the director of collections care and access.

The Princess and curator Oriole Cullen look at another item of clothing.

This Telegraph story by Hannah Furness has more about the item the Princess viewed.

The Princess, known for her support of the fashion industry, immediately identified that a black and gold coat dress was by Alexander McQueen, the British fashion designer. She said: “You see a certain shape and you know the designer.”

You have a somewhat better look at the garment in this photo; I believe it is the Alexander McQueen design referenced in The Telegraph article.

This next photo shows the Princess viewing a ballet shoe that the museum was photographing.

We return to The Telegraph's coverage.

The team needed to photograph a 1943 ballet shoe worn by Alice Markova at a performance of Giselle at the Old Vic. The inside sole of the shoe had been signed by the ballerina who had also written a message.

Watching how it was photographed for the collection, the Princess said: “Gosh it’s so small and I like the fact you can see her handwriting.”

Below, the Princess views another large piece of art.

Arguably, one of the most fascinating features of the new museum is the Order an Object service. We return to the Associated Press piece.

In the museum’s biggest innovation, anyone can book a one-on-one appointment with any object, from a Vivienne Westwood mohair sweater to a tiny Japanese netsuke figurine. Most of the items can even be handled, with exceptions for hazardous materials, such as Victorian wallpaper that contains arsenic.

The Order an Object service offers “a behind-the-scenes, very personal, close interaction” with the collection, Parsons said as she showed off one of the most requested items so far: a 1954 pink silk taffeta Balenciaga evening gown. Nearby in one of the study rooms were a Bob Mackie-designed military tunic worn by Elton John on his 1981 world tour and two silk kimonos laid out ready for a visit.

The Wandsworth Guardian reports, "With a keen interest in the arts and a love of the natural world, she chose a number of items themed around nature, a large William Morris sample book, rolls of ornate textiles, and a musical instrument for the private moment."

Here you see the Princess looking at textiles. I *think* this may be one of the William Morris pieces referenced above.

Here is a quick video via Hello!

The Princess seemed to enjoy her time at the museum thoroughly.

We return to the People article for thoughts on today's engagement, quoting Mr. Hunt, who is seen in the photo above with the Princess.

Following the outing, Tristram Hunt, director of the V&A, told PEOPLE: “It was about celebrating the opening of the Storehouse it was about our royal patron championing what we’re doing here in terms of art and design and creativity and getting young people involved in the creative industry, and celebrating the breadth and enormity of the collection."

“Her Royal Highness was really interested and knowledgeable, particularly around textiles, around some of the woven silk material from William Morris, looking at some of the wallpapers," he added. "She’s got both great passion and interest in material culture, so for her I think it was also a really enjoyable visit.”

Deputy Director Tim Reeve also spoke about the Princess's visit; more from LBC's story.

Mr Reeve said later about Kate: "It's clear today she really loves the idea of what we're trying to do, show that back-of-house world and to be a member of the public seeing that behind-the-scenes experience is what this is about.

"She's obviously fortunate to see quite a bit of the back-of-house world, but I think she really understood today that she was sharing it with the public, everyone is seeing the same space, everyone has that privileged access to our collection."

The Daily Mail reports, "Kate's two-hour visit ran over by 30 minutes as she was so engrossed in the artefacts and artwork on display." Victoria Murphy shared a video as the Princess left the Storehouse.

A quick wave to those gathered, hoping for a glimpse of the Princess.

Here is a brief video about today's engagement posted by Kensington Palace on social media.

Now, let's take a look at what Kate wore.

She brought back her Alexander McQueen separates in the 'electric navy' colorway, the Leaf Crepe Jacket and Cigarette Trousers (no longer available in this color).

The single-breasted style is crafted from a blend of 52% viscose and 48% acetate, featuring peak lapels, sharply angled front flap pockets, and a double back vent. The Leaf Crepe Cigarette Trousers are done in the same fabric, featuring side pockets, a front zipper, and a jetted back pocket. We do not yet have an ID on the white top worn beneath the jacket.

UPDATE JUNE 12: Middleton Maven believes the Princess was wearing a Joseph top, the brand's Silk-Blend Tank ($325). I think she is probably correct in the ID. The piece is a blend of 62% silk, 34% polyamide, and 4% elastane. It is described as a midweight, slightly stretchy fabric. I show it at Net-a-Porter. It is also available at Joseph (£215), but be aware that Joseph is currently not shipping to the USA.

Middleton Maven points out it is likely the same top worn in September 2023 for a Royal Navy Air Station visit.

We saw the Princess return to her Prada Pumps.

She also brought back her Laura Lombardi Portrait 14kt Gold-Plated Chain Necklace ($105 on sale at SSENSE). It showcases a chunky design with round and oval links, accompanied by a T-bar fastener. The necklace is described as being "plated with 14kt gold using a zero-waste technique."

The necklace was first worn to the Boston Celtics game the Royals attended in 2022. The necklace is available at Laura Lombardi ($188). (I have added some less expensive options on the RepliKate Necklaces page.)

The Princess repeated her Stella Lapis and Moonstone Earrings ($165) by British brand Carousel Jewels. The earrings feature a 22K gold finish on 925 sterling silver. They were first noted on Easter Sunday, 2023.

NOTE: The post originally stated that the earrings were first worn on Easter 2024, which is incorrect. Thank you to Anastasia for her comment, which brought the error to my attention; my apologies for the mistake.

Hello! Magazine reports the Princess returned to work last week after the children's school break ended. The publication notes, "... the Princess held an Early Years Meeting at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, according to the Court Circular."

The Princess's next engagement is likely to be this Saturday at the King's Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour. Rehearsals for the annual event have been underway for weeks. Here you see the Massed Band of the Household Division on parade at the Colonel's Review last Friday.

This photo shows a rather sodden rehearsal at Horse Guards Parade as members of the Household Cavalry go through their paces in the pouring rain at the end of May.

Here is a quick glance back at the Princess's Trooping the Colour style over the years. In 2011, the Duchess wore an ivory Alexander McQueen coat with Lock & Co.'s 'Lion Tamer' hat. The next year, we saw a blue-grey Erdem dress and a Jane Corbett hat. For the 2013 festivities, the Duchess chose a soft pink Alexander McQueen maternity coat with another Jane Corbett hat. The Duchess opted to wear a skirt suit by Alexander McQueen in 2014, paired with a Jane Taylor hat. In 2015, the Duchess wore the 'Astrid' coat by Catherine Walker and the 'Marisabel' hat by Lock & Co. She brought back Princess Charlotte's christening look in 2016, an Alexander McQueen design paired with a Philip Treacy hat.

In 2017, the Duchess paired a hot pink Alexander McQueen dress with the 'Lyssa' hat by Jane Taylor. She chose a soft blue Alexander McQueen dress in 2018 and a Juliette Botterill hat. For the 2019 ceremony, the Duchess was in a pale yellow design by Alexander McQueen, topped with a Philip Treacy hat. In 2022, the Duchess repeated an Alexander McQueen design accented by a Philip Treacy hat. The Princess of Wales wore a vivid green Andrew Gn dress in 2023 with a Philip Treacy hat. And in 2024, the Princess updated a Jenny Packham design with another Philip Treacy hat.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

One more bit of royal fashion news, this one covering the Princess's brooch worn to the HMS Glasgow naming ceremony in mid-May, when she debuted a new brooch. We have a few more photos of the brooch to share with you.

The piece was designed by James Porter and Son, one of Scotland's oldest jewelers; these photos are courtesy of the jeweler. The brooch was "inspired by the crest of the Royal Navy warship HMS Glasgow."

The jeweler explains the brooch is "Crafted from sterling silver, it features a depiction of St Kentigern — patron saint of Glasgow — framed by the Scottish thistle."

We'll see you Saturday, if not before!

The Princess in Royal Blue for Easter Sunday Service at Windsor https://whatkatewore.com/2023/04/09/the-princess-in-royal-blue-for-easter-sunday-service-at-windsor/ https://whatkatewore.com/2023/04/09/the-princess-in-royal-blue-for-easter-sunday-service-at-windsor/#comments Sun, 09 Apr 2023 20:24:50 +0000 https://whatkatewore.com/?p=82370 The Princess of Wales brought back a Catherine Walker design for the Easter Mattins service at St. George's Chapel today.

There was a full complement of royal family members attending services today. Below, the Queen Consort, King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and the Duchess and Duke of Edinburgh.

More from People's coverage.

This year, the holiday fell on a special day for King Charles and Queen Camilla: their wedding anniversary! On April 9, 2005, the couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall, which was followed by a Church of England service of prayer and dedication at St. George's Chapel.

...the site also holds bittersweet memories. The last time the royals gathered there was for Queen Elizabeth's committal service following her state funeral on Sept. 19, 2022, and the late monarch is buried nearby in the King George VI Memorial Chapel.

Today is also the second anniversary of Prince Philip's death. Last week, the King and Queen Consort participated in a Maunday Thursday service in York.

More from The Telegraph's coverage.

King Charles has handed out Maundy money for the first time as monarch during a service at York Minster.

The ancient ritual traditionally takes place on the Thursday before Easter Sunday every year. Last year Charles represented his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who withdrew from the service because of mobility problems.  It sees the monarch present elderly members of the Church of England with special ‘Maundy’ coins.

The King...moved around the minster presenting 74 men and 74 women with the Maundy money as the congregation of about 1,500 looked on.

A video of today's events via Rebecca English of The Daily Mail.

Below, you see Zara and Mike Tindall with their daughters Mia and Lena, Princess Beatrice of York and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Prince George with his father.

In this wider shot, you can see the Edinburgh's son, James, Earl of Wessex, as well as Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence (Princess Anne's husband, far right) and Daniel Chatto (second from right, Lady Sarah Chatto's husband). The Edinburgh's daughter, Lady Louise, did not attend today's service.

And in this photo, you can see Lady Sarah on the far left.

Princess Eugenie of York, and her husband Jack Brooksbank as they arrived at the chapel. The Princess is expecting her second child this summer.

This is the first time Prince Louis has attended an Easter service with his family.

Last year was the first time we saw Prince George and Princess Charlotte for Easter.

Back to this year, here is a cute shot of Princess Charlotte with her parents today.

After the service, several of the women were presented with nosegays. Here you see Harriet, who is ten, presenting flowers.

Samuel, age 8, gave the Princess her posy.

Other members of the Wales family as they left the chapel.

Princess Anne and the Duchess of Edinburgh as they left the chapel.

Mike and Lena Tindall.

A quick overview of what some of the royal women wore begins with the Queen Consort, who was in an ensemble by Anna Valentine with a hat by Philip Treacy and a Chanel handbag.

Princess Eugenie wore the Whistles Wood Tiger Print dress, and Jimmy Choo pumps; the Duchess of Edinburgh was in Catherine Walker's Evie coatdress with a Philip Treacy hat. UPDATE MONDAY APRIL 10: It looks like the Duchess of Edinburgh was wearing Catherine Walker's 'Red Square' coat, a piece that dates back to at least 2005.

The Duchess wore the coat on Easter Sunday 2012, with thanks to Meg on Instagram and others for the heads-up.

More from The Telegraph's story by Bethan Holt.

If the senior royals were all outfitted in blue, others seemed to have agreed on vibrant pink shades for their harmonised Easter looks.

The Duchess of Edinburgh seemed to have taken inspiration from Princess Anne, who famously re-wears outfits decades after she debuted them, delving into her style archives to find a fuchsia coat she was first seen wearing on Christmas day in 2005 - she gave it a modern refresh by teaming it with cream suede boots and a tall hat with a jaunty brim.

And here she is wearing the design on Christmas Day 2005.

Princess Beatrice chose Emilia Wickstead's 'Dionne' macramé-trimmed dress and Aquazzura pumps for today's service, while Zara Tindall wore the Jane Atelier (formerly Goat Fashion) 'Payton' Fit and Flare dress accessorized by a Strathberry bag, Juliette Botterill Millinery hat, and Emmy London heels.

The Tindall girls both wore dresses by Reiss, Mia in the 'Ania' style, and Lena in the Lil Jr. Printed Ruffle Dress.

Thank you to Found by Bojana, Polka Popp, Royal Fashion Police, and Daily Mail Fashion Finder for their ID assistance. I have details on what the Wales children wore in this What Kate's Kids Wore post.

Now for our look at what Kate wore, part of the family's color-coordinated blue look.

In keeping with the previous Easter ensembles she has worn to St. George's Chapel, today's was built around a piece we have seen her wear before. The Catherine Walker design was first seen at last year's Commonwealth Service. It combines elements of the brand's Mayfair and Magda designs, wool crepe pieces with a flare at the cuff and the hem.

The Princess wore a new chapeau by Lock and Co. hat, the Mayfair Pillbox style ($1025), with thanks to Carly at Kate Middleton Style and Iréne on Facebook for this ID.

The design is described as "light as a feather and incredibly comfortable fastens." It fastens with an adjustable elastic at the nape of the neck and is made to be worn at an angle.

The Princess also wore this style on St. Patrick's Day 2022 when visiting the Irish Guards.

The Princess carried the Natasha Clutch ($425) in cobalt blue by go-to brand Emmy London. You may also notice her deep pink nail polish. I don't recall seeing her with colored nails before; she has stayed with clear/neutral nail shades for her fingernails while occasionally sporting vibrantly colored polish on her toes.

We saw the return of the Gianvito Rossi 105 Pumps ($775)in the praline colorway, a classic stiletto with a 4.1" heel. The style is available at 24S ($775) and in limited sizes at Net-a-Porter ($775).

The Princess wore a new pair of earrings. With thanks to Katherine Elizabeth for the ID, the earrings are by Carousel Jewels, the Stella Lapis and Moonstone design ($165). The earrings feature a 22K gold finish on 925 sterling silver.

It is a brand the Princess has worn before; she wore the label's Aquamarine Delicate Orb Earrings at a May 2022 garden party.

Carousel says that for every order they receive, they "plant one tree, and make a monthly donation of revenue to the Sea Shepherd Marine Conservation Group, who work to protect marine life globally. Our packaging is plastic-free, and extracted from FSC® forests, that always replace the wood they cut down."

The Duchess has repeated ensembles for all the Easter Sunday services she has attended at Windsor. Today's cobalt blue is the deepest color we have seen her wear on Easter.

Our review of past Easter looks includes last year's soft blue Emilia Wickstead, the Duchess's 2019 ensemble, built around the dove grey Alexander McQueen first worn at 2014 Easter services in Sydney, Australia. The Duchess was expecting Prince Louis when attending Easter services in 2018, and she brought back wore a chocolate brown Catherine Walker coat seen in 2015 for St. Patrick's Day with the Irish Guards. At the 2017 Easter service, it was also a Catherine Walker repeat of a design first worn during the 2016 Canada tour.

A dress seen on Easter 2014 but not worn for church services, is the Zimmermann' Roamer Day Dress,' seen when the Duke and Duchess attended the Royal Easter Show in Sydney.

There is lots of news surrounding the upcoming coronation; I will see you with a full post on that topic in a few days! Here is one more photo from today.
