The Shola Reissued Dress Will Only Come in One Color, More Kate Fashion Musings

We begin with good news for those interested in the Reiss Shola worn by Kate earlier this week.

The news is that Reiss announced today it is re-issuing the dress:

Due to the extraordinary customer demand we are delighted to announce that the Reiss Shola dress, as worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, will be re-ordered and available to buy from Reiss once again!

We expect the dress to arrive within five to six weeks and it will be sold on a first come, first served basis as we cannot guarantee any pre-orders. We have created a page where you can register your name to be informed when the dress is back in stock. (Please click on this link to be taken to the registration page.)

One FYI, Reiss tells What Kate Wore the re-issued Shola will only come in the camel color, not the blue. Originally the company only produced 1000 dresses, it will be interesting to find out how many will be made on this next production run.

It seems Tesco has jumped into the fray, announcing its “inspired by” version of the dress. Call me crazy, but aside from the similar color and the nipped-in ruched/gathered waist, they just don’t look at all the same.

Via Reiss and Tesco

In all fairness, Tesco is candid in saying its ‘Fred + Florence bandage-style dress’ is not an exact copy, this story in The Mirror makes that clear, quoting a spokesperson.

“”Our similar F&F limited edition bandage style dress at just £30 is expected to sell-out fast. Many women want to emulate her elegant look and we are delighted to offer Kate inspired pieces at affordable prices.”

For those not familiar with Tesco, it is an enormous retailer based in the UK with stores in at least 14 countries, US consumers may recognize the company’s “Fresh and Easy” brand.

What do you think? Would you consider buying the £30 Tesco dress instead of the Reiss £175 Shola?

One other note today, if only because we remain confused about this whole situation:

Kim Kardashian’s family gushes over engagement to Kris Humphries: It will be ‘royal wedding No. 2’

From the E Online! story by Marc Malkin:

“It’s going to be royal wedding number two,” sister Khloe told me earlier today….”

As someone who does not watch the show(s) (is there more than one show???), we have nary a clue about the goings-on, so we’ll ask those who may be more familiar with the clan, is this the sort of thing they would really say? And actually believe? Seriously?

We have several other tidbits to quickly share before saying ‘ta,

  • Although not a fashion-based story, the NY Times has a very good article, The Queen and her Family Are on a Royal Roll, here is a snippet: “When Prince William, struggling a bit, pushed a wedding band onto his bride’s finger last month, the commoner Kate, daughter of airline employees, was transformed into the Duchess of Cambridge, quite possibly a future queen of the realm. So how does that work? What is the upside for all those Britons who do not make the leap to aristocracy?”
  • We are loving the entries for our BBC America Royal Wedding giveaway, thanks to everyone who has entered, and if you haven’t here is a link.

We’ll be back with more news later, we are continuing our efforts building pages for Kate’s Iconic Looks, as well as her Favorite Shoe Brands and Favorite Apparel Brands, with Favorite Accessories soon to follow. As always, if you have insight on anything we need to add, anything we have overlooked, don’t be shy, leave a comment or email at WhatKateWears@gmail.com.

You're right, the Tesco version doesn't look anything like the original! My favorite aspect of the Shola dress is the neckline, and they've totally lost that in the knock-off.

I love the Shola dress. I would definitely buy the more expensive Reiss version because the knockoff just doesn't cut it. Not too thrilled with their Fall Lookbook. There was an interesting article in today's Daily Mail about how Kate has surpassed Michelle Obama in her ability to sell fashion.

Hmm . . . I'm not sold on the Tesco "lookalike" (not), but the price is right. I'm told those stores are absolutely everywhere in the UK, so I'm guessing this one will be a hit too.. Neither the Tesco nor the original is a good cut or color on me, so this is the rare time I will not be a CopyKate.

I love those other Reiss looks, however, and have added them to my expanding list of "UK Brands to Which I Will Henceforth Pay Attention", with LK Bennett and Modalu leading the pack currently...

Off to check out that NYT story - thanks as ever for a terrific, informative post!

Dammit! I still love love love the Shola... Guess, I am registering on their list after all! I agree with you, the Tesco version is not very similar...

Yes, the Kardashians would definitely say this. Unfortunately in the U.S. Kim and her family have taken our E! channel with their many (4 I think) television shows. I think their only ability to replicate any kind of the royal wedding will be in the amount of money spent on the ceremony.
