The Princess Wears Roland Mouret and ME + EM for Hospital Visit – UPDATED

The Princess Wears Roland Mouret and ME + EM for Hospital Visit – UPDATED

The Princess of Wales chose a new top to go with familiar separates for a visit to Charing Cross Hospital in West London.

The Prince and Princess visited the hospital in support of patients, staff, and volunteers at the NHS facility

Prince William was initially scheduled to make the visit as a solo engagement, but the Princess wanted to join him—more from this People article

The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 43, are joint patrons of NHS Charities Together and made the stop to spotlight the work of NHS staff and volunteers, who are meeting an increased demand on services during the winter months.

More from Kate Mansey’s piece for The Times
Upon arrival, the couple surprised healthcare staff who were taking a tea break in the canteen. William said: “Happy new year” before joking to check his watch and asking: “Can we still say that?”

Here, you see the couple with volunteers from Imperial Health Charity, relieving pressure on employees and helping patients.

Speaking to Maureen Gilmour, 86, a volunteer who helps patients during their chemotherapy, the princess was told that “people sit there for hours”. Kate replied, “I know”, before touching William on the arm and adding: “We know”. Gilmour, the volunteer, added: “They are so sweet, everyone [was] really positive. I have to say I love it.”

The volunteers spoke about their working days and supporting patients. Kate described treatment as “quite a daunting experience”, adding: “So you’ve got to have that support from you as a team.” Kate added: “From a patient’s experience it’s important things not in the job description, such as kindness and compassion.”

And from The Daily Mail’s coverage by Rebecca English.

William hailed the staff for being ‘diligent’ and Kate celebrated the ‘interaction’ between patients and volunteers.

The Prince and Princess spent time with patients during their physical and occupational therapy.

And art therapy.

Ellie Orton OBE, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together, said of the royal visit: “It was wonderful to see the surprise on the faces of the healthcare staff and volunteers who were honoured to speak with The Prince and Princess – special moments like these give people a genuine boost at a very challenging time..

The couple also participated in a roundtable discussion on the importance of philanthropy to the NHS.

Another view of the roundtable.

Now, we move to our look at what Kate wore for today’s engagement.

Many will have recognized her Roland Mouret separates, the single-breasted blazer with angled flap pockets, and wide-leg trousers, first noted during the December 2022 Boston trip.

Beneath the jacket, the Princess wore a new top by ME + EM, the British brand’s AM/PM Sleeveless Top & Scarf (originally $345, now $241) in ‘deep ruby red’ silk. The piece features a relaxed fit with a high neckline, ruching at the front, an invisible back zipper, and a separate scarf or tie. The top is also available at Selfridges, but only in larger sizes ($260).

The Princess carried her Small Hudson Bag ($525) in mocha suede by DeMellier London

We saw the return of the Gianvito Rossi 105 Suede Brown Suede Pumps ($795), the label’s pointed-toe style with a stiletto heel.  The Princess wore her Cartier Trinity Earrings ($3850).

A quick editor’s note to those who receive email notifications when I publish a post: we will be changing the service we use to handle these notifications. Too many people are being removed from the list for reasons unknown to us. It’s a third-party service we never touch, and it’s not working as it should. I apologize for the hassle factor some of you are experiencing.

I will leave you with one more photo from today’s engagement, and early Happy 44th Birthday wishes to the Princess!

UPDATE JAN 9: This morning, the Princess released the “Winter” chapter of her four-part nature-focused video series.

In the video, the Princess wears her past-season Barbour X Alexa Chung Elfie Coat (no longer available), a style she was seen wearing a year or two ago at one of the children’s football games, and in a photo taken by Prince Louis.
She also wears her Long Tassel Boot ($790) by Penelope Chilvers.

A lovely professional outfit. I enjoy rewears, especially ones that add a new touch or two. I would personally freeze wearing a sleeveless blouse in January, no matter how many layers I had on top of it. But it does look good with the suit. The silver lining to Catherine's illness is her 100% understanding of what so many people are going through. I'm sure that makes people value her presence even more. I love that one of the volunteers is 86! And a question: this post showed up for the first time today (January 14) on my Safari browser. It still hasn't shown up on my Firefox browser. Does anyone else have issues with slow browsers?

I believe she's wearing her Spells of Love Teardrop Garnet Charm Hoops here as well. I saw this image on Pinterest and when you zoom in you can see the garnet drops. https://pin.it/3xbpHPT9d

I also zoomed in on the shot where her hand is in the water she's wearing 4 rings. Wedding Ring, Engagement Ring, Annoshka Eclipse Eternity Ring, and the new Cartier Sapphire/Diamond one. Hope this helps. Thx!

@Emily,

I originally also thought the new sapphire eternity ring was Cartier but G Collins and Sons confirmed to me that it was one they had made for Catherine.

Prince Louis took his photo of Catherine, wearing the Barbour Elfie coat - to commemorate World Cancer Day in February 2025 - during the filming of the "Mother Nature - Winter" video shoot. That video was released almost one year later, to mark Catherine's 44th birthday, on January 9, 2026.

Delighted to see Catherine air this Roland Mouret pant suit in its flattering burgundy, I am in no hurry to see the neutral shade versions come back. I’m also delighted to see a new blouse as I become afraid that we are doomed to repeats forever. I’m all in favour of recycling but not into making the royal image as dull as possible. I find that counterproductive, but am trying to trust that the Princess may feel more inclined to adopt colour and cheerfulness as she recovers.

The new ME+EM blouse has the stand-out feature that the bow can be removed and so we are mercifully spared another one on this trip. The high neckline with gentle pleating gives plenty of texture contrast against the plain suit without more flapping tie ends.

The super new Hudson Bag from DeMellier in mocha suede continues to look very good as do the wonderful Cartier Trinity Earrings. The brown suede Gianvito Rossi pumps continue to give great service and keep Catherine looking beautifully turned out. I welcome Catherine's variation of brown accessories with the burgundy, a successful and subtle combination for me. I’m no fan of this overlong hair, but still have maximum sympathy for Catherine on her recovery journey and maybe making choices for reasons I can’t see. I think she has more than succeeded at supporting her royal role on this occasion.

I apologise if I sound a bit down here, it's been a grim day online. Comments left here lift the spirits when I see such civilised exchange still possible. Many thanks to admin.

@Caroline A., *”I know” not “I’m know”.

And I would like to say that I was a bit worried when you were absent from this blog over Christmas. I was relieved when you posted.

@ElizaMo, You would be missed very much if you weren’t here. I’m know I’m not the only one who greatly appreciates your well-reasoned, insightful comments. I’m sorry that you seem a bit gloomy and I hope your mood lifts very soon. A couple more mince pies might help 😊

@ElizaMo, Yes, it is very worthwhile to keep coming back to WKW. You certainly add to that sense with your well informed comments. That is why you are missed when we don't hear from you.

Do you know what hat or cap Catherine was wearing in the nature video

@admin, Hello magazine posted this comment about Kate's outfit in the video:

In her birthday video, the princess wore a scarf by Katherine Hooker with her Barbour x Alexa Chung 'Elfie' jacket with her Iris & Ink 'Eloise' jumper underneath. She added Penelope Chilvers' 'Long Tassel Boots in Conker' and a baker boy hat by The House of Bruar to round the look off.

It looks like it could be the Really Wild baker boy cap she has worn once before, but it is tough to tell without better images.
