A Special Mother’s Day Message from the Cambridges

On this Mother’s Day in the UK, the Duke and Duchess shared new images and a special message via social media.  

The post included a previously unreleased picture showing a carefree family enjoying their time outdoors.   

As well as a picture of Diana, Princess of Wales, with a young Prince William and Prince Harry. 

Along with a photo of Carole Middleton holding her daughter as an infant. 

And then a special treat, the very creative Mother’s Day card Prince George made for the Duchess. It is a beautiful collage with a bouquet in a vase featuring a heart and 3D flowers in deep red tissue paper. 

The Royal Family also posted a photo on Facebook, this one showing the Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, in 1951 with her mother, Queen Elizabeth, as they arrived at Westminster Abbey for a wedding.

The message accompanying the photo: 

Mothering Sunday is a chance to thank and celebrate all mothers and caregivers, wherever they may be.

Today may be a different and difficult day for those who would usually plan to spend time with their mothers, as we adapt to the necessary changes and disruption to our normal routine and regular patterns of life.

But for all Mums everywhere, we are thinking of you, and wish you all a very special #mothersday.

And Clarence House shared a picture of a very young Prince Charles with his mother in the Clarence House Gardens with the message: “Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day, particularly in a year when families may not be able to be together.” 

As far as what Kate wore in the new photo, the image of Kate carrying Charlotte and William carrying George appears to be from the family’s 2018 Christmas card shoot.

The Duchess is wearing her Fjällräven Övik Re-Wool sweater and Asprey Oak Leaves earrings. The sweater was first noted at an October 2018 engagement at a nature park.

It is an unusual Mothering Sunday as many practice social distancing and self-isolation. Below, a scene in London as a mother and daughter deliver flowers and ‘visit’ their grandmother/great-grandmother on this Mothering Sunday.
