A Special Mother’s Day Message from the Cambridges

On this Mother’s Day in the UK, the Duke and Duchess shared new images and a special message via social media.

The post included a previously unreleased picture showing a carefree family enjoying their time outdoors.

As well as a picture of Diana, Princess of Wales, with a young Prince William and Prince Harry.

Along with a photo of Carole Middleton holding her daughter as an infant.

And then a special treat, the very creative Mother’s Day card Prince George made for the Duchess. It is a beautiful collage with a bouquet in a vase featuring a heart and 3D flowers in deep red tissue paper.

The Royal Family also posted a photo on Facebook, this one showing the Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, in 1951 with her mother, Queen Elizabeth, as they arrived at Westminster Abbey for a wedding.

The message accompanying the photo:

Mothering Sunday is a chance to thank and celebrate all mothers and caregivers, wherever they may be.

Today may be a different and difficult day for those who would usually plan to spend time with their mothers, as we adapt to the necessary changes and disruption to our normal routine and regular patterns of life.

But for all Mums everywhere, we are thinking of you, and wish you all a very special #mothersday.

And Clarence House shared a picture of a very young Prince Charles with his mother in the Clarence House Gardens with the message: “Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day, particularly in a year when families may not be able to be together.”

As far as what Kate wore in the new photo, the image of Kate carrying Charlotte and William carrying George appears to be from the family’s 2018 Christmas card shoot.

The Duchess is wearing her Fjällräven Övik Re-Wool sweater and Asprey Oak Leaves earrings. The sweater was first noted at an October 2018 engagement at a nature park.

The original post on the Christmas card picture is here

It is an unusual Mothering Sunday as many practice social distancing and self-isolation. Below, a scene in London as a mother and daughter deliver flowers and ‘visit’ their grandmother/great-grandmother on this Mothering Sunday.

From here on Planet Kate, Happy Mother’s Day to those celebrating the day, along with care and concern for those missing someone special, be it a permanent loss or because of the current crisis. Let’s all keep working on being kind and gentle with ourselves and others as we help each other through uncertain times.

Hi Susan, Your readers may be interested in this online course about Royal fashion through the ages. I did one of these courses a couple of years ago and they are really good- plenty of support from the tutors and you can do it at your own pace. https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/royal-fashion/4/steps/738699 Best wishes, Siji

The Kensington Royal post popped up first on my feed when I opened Instagram yesterday, which was just what I needed. :) What an absolutely lovely photo, and I really appreciate that William and Kate's mothers were featured as well. I can imagine there was some debate as to whether they should share an intimate family gift like George's card but I'm so glad they did, it is beautiful!

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this even though I cried. My 43 year old daughter died in my arms Christmas 2018. But I’m blessed to have another daughter with 2 sons that lives thousands of miles away & I never see. But we talk. My planned visit in August is likely shot by COVID19, but it will happen next year. I’m looking forward to our Mother’s Day & talking too them. For all their privilege & lovely clothes, what’s truly special is a loving celebrity family. Instead of envying the fact they don’t have to worry about getting food or getting sick getting food, it’s just nice to see genuine love wherever it happens.

Grace I had tears reading your post. Life is beautiful, but not always easy and losing a child has to be the most devastating sadness. Can you Skype of FaceTime with your daughter and grandsons? I am doing this with my five grandchildren, even though we live in the same city and usually see each other often. You are amongst friends on WKW and I am sending you peace and blessings to get through this horrific time in our world's history.

Oh, Grace. I'm so, so sorry about your daughter and can't imagine how difficult Mother's Day is. I wish I could give you a giant hug, but the best I can do is let you know we *all* hold you close in our hearts.
