The Duchess Wears Ghost as the Cambridge Family “Claps For Our Carers”

There is a new video of the Cambridge family taking part in Clap For Our Carers.

The family is shown in a video at the end of a skit Prince William did on the BBC’s Big Night In, a fundraiser for charities impacted by the dive in donations resulting from the coronavirus crisis. The Telegraph reports, “The BBC’s two telethon titans, Comic Relief and Children in Need, joined forces for the first time to stage a socially distanced night of all-star music and comedy.”

And from the BBC: “…for one night only, Comic Relief, BBC Children in Need and BBC One, are coming together for a special night of entertainment, like no other. Join us as we celebrate the people who are making a difference and help support those affected during these extraordinary times.”  As in so many locations, charitable donations have gone down significantly. Not only did the country come together on Thursday evening for a fundraising feast of entertainment but the Royal family made a surprise appearance to show solidarity during the Covid-19 crisis. It was just the cheering moment the nation needed.

Introducing the weekly Clap For Our Carers, Stephen Fry in his “Lord Melchett” guise from Blackadder had a Zoom chat with the Duke of Cambridge about such hot topics as home-schooling, Netflix hit Tiger King and the slipping in one’s sartorial standards during lockdown. 

When Melchett went out onto his doorstep to applaud with gusto, so did the Cambridges from their Norfolk home. It might have been past the bedtime of Prince George, Prince Charlotte and especially Prince Louis but it was worth keeping them up for.

During the exchange, he said that homeschooling his children had proved “a bit of a nightmare

He added: “By the way, have you seen anything good on TV? It’s hell without EastEnders.”

Before getting up to take part in the clap for carers, he said: “On my way, let me just see if I can find my socks, and my shoes, and my trousers.”

The Telegraph has posted the video on its YouTube channel. It runs about 2:40. The family is seen emerging from the front door of Anmer Hall and clapping at about 2:15.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall also took part in Clap for our Carers from their home in Scotland.

 The weekly event on Thursday nights is held in support of NHS employees and other essential workers on the frontlines dealing with the coronavirus.  You may remember when Prince William shared a video of the children taking part in late March.

Tonight the BBC posted a video with the Cambridges clapping followed by scenes of people all over the UK taking part in the event.

 Now for a quick look at what Kate wore. We start with thanks to Emily Collins for her ID, as it looks like Kate wore a version of the Anouk dress by Ghost (£90.30, about $115 at today’s exchange rates). 

Made of 100% viscose, the pattern is the ‘Suzie Floral Spray’ and the color is blue.

The dress is described this way on the site: “At Ghost, we do shirtdresses the feminine way. Our Anouk Dress features pretty, fabric-covered buttons all the way down and romantic ruffles along the collar and hem. Semi-fitted in shape and printed on our signature crepe fabric, this is an easy style to elevate your everyday wardrobe.” Below, a closer look at the print, ruffle at the collar, and slight gathers at the sleeve.  You can also just make out the seam at the waist.

UPDATE FRIDAY APRIL 24: Ghost London announced they are donating all proceeds from sales of the dress to the NHS.

It looks like Kate accessorized with her Catherine Zoraida Fern Drop Earrings, shown below as worn on another occasion. 

UPDATE: A number of people have shared that it looks like Kate is *not* wearing the Fern Leaf earrings.  On Facebook, Katie shared a GIF that clearly shows they are an entirely different shape from the Fern.  It looks like the Duchess had on her Polly Petal Earrings ($14) as offered by Accessorize. (You see them below right as worn last July.)
