The day was anything but gray for Kate at today’s Order of the Garter ceremony, she selected a Katherine Hooker coat and dress for the occasion. The Duchess chose Ms. Hooker’s raw silk Buxton Coat in a dove gray, officially referred to as ‘ash’.

While slightly similar to the sky blue Catherine Walker ensemble Kate’s mother Carole wore for the wedding, but a good look at the pieces show the distinctions, from the lapels and shoulders to the length of the garments.

The hand-beading on the cuffs and waist is a nice touch, Kate fashion fans will recognize many of the designer’s other looks on The Duchess prior to her marriage to Prince William.

These images come via our Kate’s Favorite Brands-Clothing page, she has long been fond of Ms. Hooker’s designs.

The exquisite hat is by milliner Rachel Trevor-Morgan.

The milliner is a royal favorite, the Queen has been seen in many of the designer’s hats previously. (We expect we’ll see more tomorrow at Royal Ascot.)

Kate accented her look with elegant grey suede pumps by Rupert Sanderson.

As far as the bag goes, we’re still working on it and will let you know as soon as we have information on it.

Big credit for some of today’s detective work goes to Dana and Leisa on the WKW Facebook page, as well as Kate Middleton Style, pop over for a visit, we’re pals and she nailed this one, correcting the Daily Mail’s misidentification of Kate’s hat.

  1. I realise this is a while ago now but for anyone wondering the clutch is by British brand Emmy and from the name I’m guessing it is the same used by Mrs Middleton at the wedding

Emmy also made the matching shoes worn by Ms Middleton:

  2. I actually think that the dress underneath is a Joseph dress which is currently sold at net a porter http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/165256
Having seen it on a mannequin in Selfridges over the weekend, it does drape to give the cowl neck effect that Kate has, especially with a coat on.

  3. I noticed that Kate’s coat is made from Simla Silk which is stocked at http://www.james-hare.com/2307-simla-silk.php
If anyone wants to have a go at creating their own :)

  4. I’m fairly certain that the shoes are the ‘Malone’ style by Richard Sanderson

    What do you think?

ps – LOVE this blog!! Thank you for updating so often and for all of the details!

  5. To be honest, I don’t like this oufit at all. It’s overly classic, even dull and the colour doesn’t flatter the duchess. However, it’s nothing compared to the periwinkle coat she wore the day before. Her first fashion faux pas, according to me.

  6. The Katherine Hooker facebook confirmed Kate’s dress as the Buxton dress in mercury crepe silk satin cut on the bias. There is a photograph available in the summer collection on their website but sadly it only shows the top, draped neckline of the dress!

    • Hi again Rachael, you are so wonderful to read *and* to comment, thank you. :) I think we all wish there was a better photo of the Buxton dress and coat, we have made an inquiry, if there is abetter one we will post it. Have a splendid Tuesday!

  7. Isn’t the bag the one Carole had at the wedding?

Also thanks for the blog. It is great.

  8. Your fingers must be exhausted, so thorough a job you’ve done over these past few days tracking La Kate / Catherine / Duchess! I’ve been fairly desperate to sneak a few minutes with my Google Reader and properly read all of your fabulous updates. And now that I have…

…I’m bonkers over both the chic gray color scheme and the hat. Mostly the hat, actually, but the sophisticated color pulls it all together so well. I like it so well I’m mostly able to overlook whatever it is the Duchess of Cornwall has emerging from her haberdashery there to the left.

The tailoring of that coat is genius, too; hemmed & nipped in at the waist just so, keeping this ensemble from veering into matron territory, which I think it could do easily in the wrong hands (the horror!).

  9. I don’t know who you are or what you do for a living, but I just want to tell you how much I LOVE your blog! I’m a huge Kate fan, and reading your thorough updates makes Kate-watching all the more fun. You do a wonderful job! Keep it up and thanks for being so on top of her wardrobe! This has quickly become one of my favorite websites. :)

  10. Any ideas about the dress underneath? I can only see a slight collar peaking out.
