First Batch of “Inspired By” Replica Gowns Now Available for Pre-Ordering

As previously discussed in this space, there is a plethora of wedding dresses “inspired by,” or “in the manner of,” or “just like” those created by Sarah Burton for Kate and Pippa Middleton.

The gowns that will hit the market first are those by ABS/Allen B. Schwartz. Lord and Taylor is getting the gowns two weeks earlier than any other stores, and they may also be pre-ordered via L&T’s Fifth Avenue Wedding store consultant, call 212-391-3287.

First, the Amazing Lace dress, priced at $1100.

From a description of the gown:

“Celebrate your big day in the most regal look that kept the whole world watching. An embroidered sleeved bodice and a scalloped décolletage create a corset effect on top of this breathtaking wedding gown from A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz. Inverted pleats are anything but simple when met with more lace at the hem. Detach the train after the ceremony for a more reception-ready look.

Next, the knockoff of Sarah Burton’s evening reception dress for the Duchess, Princess Power, retailing at $450.

And a dress modeled after the gown creating all sorts of buzz, the one worn by Kate’s sister and Maid of Honour, Pippa. Below, the Draped Neck Gown, it is $390.

Nordstrom is also taking orders for its Duchess gown, available at $698 in standard sizes, $798 for plus sizes. From the item description:

“Duchesse satin fashions a royalty-inspired wedding gown designed with a corseted bodice and a beautifully full, pleated skirt. A delicate lace overlay creates the long sleeves while also shaping the demure collar and low, scalloped V-neckline. The removable bustle is fashioned with dramatic folds at the lower back before flowing into the three-foot train.

"PRINCESS POWER" - also known as the She-Ra action figure I owned lo these nearly thirty years ago. That is a wonderfully, sublimely ridiculous name.
