Will Reiss Re-Issue the Shola Dress? Also, Info on How to Rent Dress or Buy It on eBay & A Royal Giveaway

Today we have a number of updates to previous posts, as well as something a little different from our usual blathering standard fare: a giveaway for readers. Our primary focus is on getting everyone up to speed on the Reiss Shola dress worn by Kate for her first formal engagement as a member of the royal family, yesterday’s meeting with the Obamas at Buckingham Palace.

The British Monarchy

Interest in the Reiss “Shola” dress was so intense the company’s website repeatedly crashed throughout the day, resulting in messages like this one on the retailer’s Facebook page.

Via Reiss Facebook Page

Today the company continues to promote other items online despite the continued inaccessibility of the website, or excruciatingly slow performance for those able to get through.  From the Reiss FB page earlier today:

Via Reiss Facebook page

Reiss does not plan to re-issue the dress at this time. However, all is not lost for those who simply must. have. the. dress.

There are multiple auctions underway on eBay for the dress.

Via eBay

Both the US eBay site and the UK site show many auctions for the dress. Prices for US-based auctions run the gamut, from $160 USD through almost $900 USD, there are similar prices for the UK auctions. As always, use caution if bidding, be sure to check the seller’s feedback before committing to a bid.

If that option isn’t appealing *and* you live in the UK, there is one more alternative: ‘renting’ the dress.  Label Lease (similar to Rent the Runway in the US) is offering the Shola for limited-time rentals.

Via Label Lease (UK)

We have an inquiry in to the good folks at Rent the Runway to see if they have any plans to offer the dress; we’ll let you know what we discover.

As far as Kate’s accessories go, the Anya Hindmarch “Maud” silk clutch is a made-to-order piece; the Hindmarch online bespoke shop isn’t yet open, but you can email for more information.  The shell necklace is said to be a memento from the couple’s recent honeymoon in the Seychelles.

Multiple reports say the black pumps (court shoes to those on the far side of the pond) are by LK Bennett, but that’s not what WKW was told by the company:

“…if you’re referring to the outfit the Duchess wore yesterday at Buckingham Palace, then that doesn’t appear to be anything from our collection…”

We shall also continue to hunt down that information for you. In the meantime, LK Bennett is promoting the return of its oh-so-hot wedge, renamed the Maddox:

In other updates, there are numerous comments to our post about the Minnie Rose shawl Kate wore for her trip to the grocery store in early May, click here to see some of the great info from our eagle-eyed and generous readers!

As previously discussed in this space, there is a plethora of wedding dresses “inspired by,” or “in the manner of,” or “just like” those created by Sarah Burton for Kate and Pippa Middleton.

The gowns that will hit the market first are those by ABS/Allen B. Schwartz. Lord and Taylor is getting the gowns two weeks earlier than any other stores, and they may also be pre-ordered via L&T’s Fifth Avenue Wedding store consultant, call 212-391-3287.

First, the Amazing Lace dress, priced at $1100.

ABS/Allen Schwartz at Lord & Taylor

From a description of the gown:

“Celebrate your big day in the most regal look that kept the whole world watching. An embroidered sleeved bodice and a scalloped décolletage create a corset effect on top of this breathtaking wedding gown from A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz. Inverted pleats are anything but simple when met with more lace at the hem. Detach the train after the ceremony for a more reception-ready look.

Next, the knockoff of Sarah Burton’s evening reception dress for the Duchess, Princess Power, retailing at $450.

ABS/Allen B Schwartz via Lord & Taylor

And a dress modeled after the gown creating all sorts of buzz, the one worn by Kate’s sister and Maid of Honour, Pippa. Below, the Draped Neck Gown, it is $390.

Nordstrom is also taking orders for its Duchess gown, available at $698 in standard sizes, $798 for plus sizes. From the item description:

“Duchesse satin fashions a royalty-inspired wedding gown designed with a corseted bodice and a beautifully full, pleated skirt. A delicate lace overlay creates the long sleeves while also shaping the demure collar and low, scalloped V-neckline. The removable bustle is fashioned with dramatic folds at the lower back before flowing into the three-foot train.

Delivery is expected by September 15 for this dress.

This week’s roundup is very brief, business and personal matters are requiring more attention than anticipated.

First we have an intriguing item, the Lego Minifig Prince William Kate Middleton Castle Lot.

Via eBay Auction #180663641121

Here is more from the item description:

She has a dual sided head…with a crying expression too!

He has a dual sided face with a scowl on the reverse side!

Personally, I find the pink sceptre to be a courageous style statement.

Our second item is for those seeking an early jump on shower gifts for the couple, baby shower gifts that is. Behold, the

HAT/CAP FOR BABY OF PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE MIDDLETON

eBay Item #320697828901

Confused? This portion of the item description makes everything clear.

Sometime the Prince William and Kate Middleton will have children. And you can give a gift for their happy family.

I love someone who plans ahead.

Despite our brevity we do hope these put a smile on your face. May everyone enjoy a splendid rest-of-the-weekend!

Weekly Kate Middleton eBay Roundup (Including the Mona Lisa as Kate Middleton)

Posted by admin

Well, here we are, one week after The Wedding. Why am I surprised at the volume and ah, the variety of listings? (Do keep in mind this is only US listings, I cannot begin to imagine what is being seen in other parts of the world.)

There are some oddities, like the “William & Kate Middleton Royal Wedding barbie doll ooak“.  Not surprising that it is “ooak” (one of a kind), Mattel putting this into mass-production seems unlikely.

eBay Item #130516932625

Here is more information from the item description:

“Both doll have had full rpeiants to their face and have been given new adhesive hair.

Ken: This ken has been given new adhesive hair . His Military Uniform and hat are both handamde with great detail.  He is for display only – please ask all questions before bidding thank you

Barbie: She has been given new adhesive hair that has been styled and a fresh repaint to her face. She has a handmade tiara & veil ontop of her head. Her Wedding gown is handmade as well as her bouquet and earrings. She is for display only – please ask all questions before bidding or purchase – thank you”

This can be yours at a “Buy It Now” price of $399, but if concerned about value, perhaps you can get a special deal from the seller by purchasing multiple dolls, they are also offering a Pippa Middleton Royal Wedding Barbie doll ooak and this one has an opening bid of only $29.99. (Is it me, or does Pippa have an even more hour-glassy shape than in real life?)

eBay Auction #180662576993

If looking to do an entire collection, they also offer Victoria Beckham and many others in their wedding day finery.

Something you may have overlooked when decorating your home, a Kate Middleton Light Switch Cover.

eBay Auction #180662576993

There are a number of clothing items being offered, not surprisingly, the Zara Pleated dress worn as the couple left Buckingham Palace is on offer, here is one such listing:

Large ZARA PLEATED DRESS BLUE as worn by Kate Middleton

eBay Item #130516932625

The dress originally sold at Zara for $89. The auction opening bid is set at $200, at this point there are no bids, the auction ends tonight and we fully anticipate the dress will sell following a last-minute bidding frenzy. The seller, juliebelezzuoli, has done quite well with at least one other Kate Middleton related item, selling a Reiss Nanette dress earlier this week for $510.

Clearly we don’t think big enough here at WKW InterGalactic HQ, as we never had the vision to see this:

Mona Lisa as a Bride Kate Middleton

Auction #250815022540

After that, what can one say?

Kate Wears Hudson Jeans and French Sole Flats for the Grocery

Posted by admin
· May 5, 2011

Today we have a quick look at casual pieces worn by the newly titled “Duchess of Cambridge” for a trip to the grocery store. (She will always be “Kate” in these quarters.)

The Duchess opted for an olive or forest green wrap (referred to by The Mail as a ‘poncho’) with a ruffled edge atop a white v-neck for her visit to the local market in Anglesey. (How would you refer to it? As a wrap? Shrug? Shawl? Cape? Poncho?)

The man with his face obscured is actually one of her protection officers, that is done for security purposes. According to the story in The Mail she is wearing a brand of flats we have long been fond of, French Sole.

We aren’t yet positive on the specific model, we are thinking it may be the Simple (sans the patent cap toe) or the Henrietta. (We’ll update tomorrow when we have a tad more time.) One interesting tidbit, French Sole actually created a special pair of flats in honor of the wedding, they were only available for one day, last Friday, April 29th.

French Sole

UPDATE: There is a bit of a discrepancy about the specific model of shoe worn by Kate on Wednesday. People magazine quotes a French Sole spokesperson as saying the shoes are the Pirouette model in brown patent leather.

Via London Sole

We tend to go with what the company’s Facebook page says, that it is the Henrietta style.

“We are honoured that the new Princess was seen yesterday wearing her “Henrietta” style brown crocodile ballet flats.”

Here is a bit more about Kate’s history with the brand via the People article:

“A spokesperson for the company tells PEOPLE that the classic style is one of Kate’s go-to designs, and confirms that the newlywed is a regular in both the King’s Road and Knightsbridge stores.” She prefers the Pirouette or the Henrietta shapes and always in neutral colors,” the spokesperson shares, adding, “she’s been coming to us for a good few years now.”

One note, if clicking on any of the links to go look at the shoes, don’t be confused by seeing “London Sole,” that’s the US name for French Sole.

She also wore a pair of skinny jeans from another favorite brand, Hudson.

As far as jewelry worn by Catherine, you may have noticed that stunning engagement ring is back on her left hand; it was moved to her right hand for the ceremony last week, allowing Prince William to slip on her wedding ring.

Links of London

Many have probably recognized the earrings already, the Links of London pair worn in one of the engagement photos. Done in white topaz, the “Hope Egg” motif is is said to represent “hope and new life”.   Sadly, they are not currently available.

One other note, Grazia has responded to the controversy about this cover photo:

Grazia UK

From the magazine’s statement today:

“Over the past 24 hours, stories on the Huffington Post and Jezebel blogs have implied that Grazia altered the image of the Duchess of Cambridge on the cover of the current issue of the magazine, in order to make her look slimmer.

Grazia prides itself on being a publication that champions women and women’s bodies, and we have no reason to make Catherine Middleton appear thinner.”
