Kate & William Take George & Charlotte to the Football!

The Duke and Duchess took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to a football match this afternoon.

The match was between Aston Villa and Norwich City.

More from The Daily Mail.

Kate beamed as she patted her grinning son’s knee as they joined hoards of fans to celebrate the team’s 5-1 win against Norwich City.

More about Prince George’s excitement from this Metro story.

Displaying his support in a claret t-shirt, he could barely contain his excitement as they went on to win the away game 5-1. Clips of George shared online showed him jumping up and down in his seat and throwing his hands into the air with joy.

Some cute videos of the young royal were posted on social media, including this one from the Kensington Palace Instagram page.

The Telegraph’s article noted that “While he shared each goal’s celebration with his son, Princess Charlotte sat on her mother’s lap as the Duchess appeared to explain the rules.”

Prince William is a longtime Aston Villa fan. The Mirror has more in this piece.

He previously spoke out about why he is a fan of the Birmingham club, telling the BBC in 2015: “A long time ago at school I got into football big time.

“I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run of the mill teams.

“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.

We return to the Metro coverage:

When George was a toddler, William revealed that he would ‘love’ to attend football matches with his son, but said he would need to ‘pass that by the missus’.

He added that it would be ‘fantastic’ if the future-king decided to follow the club, before joking that it would ‘probably end up being that Charlotte is the Villa fan’.

Broadcaster and former player Gary Lineker posted a quick video on Instagram showing the young prince reacting to a goal.

Think Prince George has caught the football bug early. ??

Aston Villa tweeted about the family’s attendance.

After the match, the team’s manager said the royals were a lucky charm for the team. Here is another cute video of Prince George.

William is President of the Football Association.  You may remember when the Duke and Duchess officially opened the association’s national center, St. George’s Park, in 2012.

The FA has partnered with Heads Together to launch Heads Up, a campaign encouraging football fans, particularly men, to talk about their mental health.  The initiative is running through the 2019/20 season.

Some readers may have recognized a close friend of Kate’s in many of the photos; on the far right, you see Sophie Snuggs (neé Carter).

She is godmother to Princess Charlotte, seen below arriving for Charlotte’s christening in July 2015.

Both children were also in her wedding last September.

It’s possible George and Charlotte will be in another wedding, that of their Uncle James Middleton. There are multiple reports James is engaged to Alizee Thevenet, a French financial analyst. You see the couple below at the May wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston. More from The Telegraph.

James Middleton has proposed to his girlfriend and given her a sapphire ring.

Their engagement comes after a whirlwind romance between the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger brother and French-born Alizee Thevenet, who met in the summer of 2018.

A photo of the couple James posted on his Instagram account in May.

Now for a very brief look at what Kate wore for today’s football match. The Duchess was in the Barbour Longshore Quilted Jacket that we first saw her wear in Belfast this February.

The jacket features a chevron quilted design, funnel neck, two-way front zipper, stretch panels on the side, and curved hem.

Kate appeared to be wearing a pair of hoop earrings, but I can’t discern if they are a new pair or a style we’ve seen previously.

I love everything about this so much. George's absolute joy is so endearing - what a treat that he got to witness five goals by his team! Hope he's not expecting that every match ;) I also love that the Cambridges are doing normal family things like this. Wonder if Louis will become a Villa fan as well or pick another to rebel!

What a treat to see a happy smiling family outing like this! It really brightened up a grey October day. The Cambridges are past masters at appearing to be refreshingly normal despite any royal restrictions. The shots of George and Charlotte enthusiastically joining in are darling.

I’ve never been a fan of padded jackets myself, finding them too bulky. But this fitted Barbour is as neat a one as I’ve ever seen, helped I think by the neat trick of having smooth side panels minus quilting. I’m glad to see Kate getting good use out of it. The trim fit will help keep her arms free for quick reactions necessary when monitoring young children.

Warm congratulations to James and Alizee, and I wish them great happiness.

This is too cute! A family of sports fans! Love that Barbour jacket on Kate.. and I love the news about James Middleton and his Alizee, his now-fiancee. I really like her confident style and it will be interesting to see her wedding dress selection!

Could not agree more! And I’m so happy for James Middleton, who has done so much for so many by speaking out about his experience with depression.

And Prince George is so adorable I feel physical pain.
