The Princess in Needle and Thread Dress for Christmas Carol Concert Promo

The Princess in Needle and Thread Dress for Christmas Carol Concert Promo

We saw new photos of the Princess of Wales this weekend, and I have a few more Earthshot images to share. Below, the Princess in a photo released by Kensington Palace promoting the upcoming Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey.

This is the second year for Royal Carols: Together at Christmas; the program will be taped this Thursday. Below, a photo from last year’s concert.

More from a People story

“Join us this Christmas Eve for a very special service at Westminster Abbey, full of festive carols and beautiful performances, as we celebrate what makes this the most wonderful time of year,” Kate says in the promo, which will air on Sunday evening.

“This year’s carol service is dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the values Her Majesty demonstrated throughout her life, including duty, empathy, faith, service, kindness, compassion and support for others,” added the release.

Other royal family members will attend the taping on Thursday, including King Charles and the Queen Consort. ITV will broadcast the concert on Christmas Eve. Below, another photo released by the Palace this weekend.

The invitation for the concert by artist Aurelie Baudry Palmer includes a special nod to the late Queen.

More from this Hello piece.

Speaking exclusively to London-based illustrator Aurelie Baudry Palmer – the artist behind the festive invitation – the team at HELLO! discovered how Princess Kate requested a touching amendment at the eleventh hour.

Paying tribute to her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, the Princess of Wales specifically asked Aurelie to incorporate Her Majesty’s favourite dog breed, Corgis.

Blown away by the positive feedback, Aurelie added: “I’m over the moon my work has been shared so widely, and also to play a small part in such a thoughtful community carol concert.

Those fond of the artist’s designs may want to visit her etsy shop, although she is taking a short break, according to a notice on the shop.

In the promotional photos, the Princess wears the Aurora Ballerina Dress ($719 on the US site, £460 on the UK site) in a rich red shade by Needle and Thread.

The ankle-length design was inspired by a vintage lace tablecloth and featured sequins in a floral motif. Other design elements include a full skirt, sheer sleeves that are fitted, a sheer panel at the hem, and a concealed back zipper. The bodice is partially lined, and the skirt is fully lined. Here is a closer look at the details, including the lace frill at the collar and upper arm.

The frock was first noted when worn in January 2020 for a UK-Africa Investment Summit reception at Buckingham Palace.

In the new photos, the Princess accessorized with the same earrings and shoes worn when we first saw her wearing this dress, the Soru Ruby Earrings ($189) and what looks like her Gianvito Rossi 105 heels ($775).

Also today, a few more photos and videos from the Earthshot Prize Awards. The timing of the awards was such that more photos became available after I published the original post covering the event

The broadcast opened with a message from Sir David Attenborough.

Clara Amfo and Daniel Dae Kim hosted the awards.

The Princess of Wales awarded the prize for the Clean Our Air category.

The winner in this category was Mukuru Clean Stoves from Kenya, “a start-up providing cleaner-burning stoves to women in Kenya to reduce unhealthy indoor pollution and provide a safer way to cook.” In this photo, you can see how the green popped against the background.

This image offers a bit of the back of the Princess’s ‘Sabina’ dress by Solace London

And the duo as they spoke with Hannah Jones, Earthshot Prize CEO.

Black and white photos were also released.

Another of the black and white images by Chris Jackson.

And one more.

Here is a brief video posted by The Earthshot Prizes.

With thanks to Olivia, PBS is showing the Earthshot Prizes again this Wednesday night at 8 ET. You can also watch the broadcast here, or on the PBS site.

I will see you Thursday for coverage of the carol concert, if not before!

It's a real pleasure to see this pretty Needle and Thread dress again and revisit the intricacy of the detailed work it displays, the layers of pattern on the skirt are fascinating. The sheer hem is a delightful ballerina-style touch. The Soru Ruby earrings are fabulous if mostly hidden by gleaming locks of hair.

I'm not so sure about the dubious privilege of having dress up while standing in front of cameras in one's own home, but this is one of the hazards of being a princess. It's clear Catherine manages the situation like a pro.

That dress is about as EXQUISITE as any dress can be! It has so many feminine, romantic, Beautiful details going on, (details that work together wonderfully). Just that, alone, would be completely delightful, but then it Also has all that joyful Sparkle, all that enticing Glittery awesomeness! And that red! Oh my gosh, I definitely Love this dress even more (so much more, in fact) than the perfectly stunning, undeniably elegant red, glittery Jenny Packham gown that the Princess of Wales was recently seen in, wearing the beyond lovely Lotus tiara. Jenny Packham is Great, but Needle and Thread is even more wonderful, in my view. I looked up Needle and Thread and beheld a magical place chock full of dreamy, whimsical, elegant and unabashedly Romantic dresses and gowns. I hope Kate will wear more Needle and Thread, because she just glows in this dress! The black and white photos of the Earthshot event are strikingly elegant. Kate's vivid green gown looks equally as gorgeous in these photos, which leads me to think that this very same gown, in all white would be just as marvelous for the Princess of Wales. Perhaps she could accent such a with vivid blue sapphires. That would be amazing - just as amazing as the bold green gown with dazzling emeralds that she wore.

Thank you for posting the Earth Shot photos too. I loved Princess Catherine's sleek, minimal look. Even though the color is still on the fence for me, it's one of my favourite formal looks on her. The Needle and Thread dress sleeves aren't my thing nor do I think the Sora earrings with their sort of earthy look fit ehre, but I must admit that she looks beautiful in a romantic, vintage kind of way here. And am excited for her Christmas Carol Service! It was really lovely to watch last year.

What a perfect Christmas dress! Great color, style, fit and accessories.

Also, thanks for the updated pics from the Earthshot event. The respect, love and connection displayed by the Prince and Princess for each are evident without obvious PDAs. Lovely to see.

This dress is gorgeous on Catherine and a perfect look for a Christmas event! Like others, I hope she plays the piano again.

The additional Earthshot photos are stunning- the black and white somehow brings them to life a bit more. It’s easier to see how the bright green of the dress helped the Princess stand out against the backdrop. It really worked in that specific context.

Final note: the event artwork is adorable and the inclusion of the Corgis is a precious touch. I can’t wait to see more of the event!
