The Princess of Wales Meets Young Cancer Patient at Windsor Castle

The Princess of Wales Meets Young Cancer Patient at Windsor Castle

The Princess of Wales met with a young cancer patient today at Windsor Castle. Photos from the meeting were shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s social media accounts.

More from The Telegraph’s story by Hannah Furness.

The Princess of Wales has been photographed back at work for the first time since ending her chemotherapy.

The Princess was seen hugging 16-year-old Liz Hatton, who has a rare and aggressive form of cancer and was invited to Windsor Castle as part of her “bucket wish” list.

Liz, a budding photographer, was given rare permission to shoot pictures behind the scenes of an investiture, which were later published by Kensington Palace.

In the photo above left, you see the Princess hugging the 16-year-old photographer, who was diagnosed in January with DSRCT (desmoplastic small round cell tumors). In the second photo, you see Liz and her mother, Vicky Robayna (on far right), her stepfather Aaron (on the left), and brother Mateo.

We learn more about Liz’s decision to pursue her photography dreams from The Telegraph piece

She has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy and dropped her formal studies in favour of following her dream of photography.

Earlier this year, she told the BBC: “If I only have around three years left to live, what’s the point in A-levels?”

A Twitter post by Liz’s mother (PumpkinsandPostIts) explains the bucket list Liz created with her photography goals.

Prince William heard about Liz and her bucket list through the London Air Ambulance Charity (he is the organization’s patron) and invited her to take photographs at today’s investiture service.

Liz posted about today’s experience on her Instagram account, Liz Hatton Photography, and her reaction to seeing her photos on the official Kensington Palace account.

She shared her thoughts on the day’s events.

The family also posted on social media about today’s experience.

You can see more of Liz’s photographs on her Instagram page here. There is also a GoFundMe account with more information on her treatment and progress. (You may see that her stepfather is listed as the beneficiary; this is because she is not old enough to be the direct beneficiary.)

For today’s meeting, it looks like the Princess wore her Roland Mouret Stretch Cady Single-Breasted Blazer ($432 on sale, limited sizes) and Wide-Leg Stretch Cady Trouser ($640, sold out).

The separates were first noted during the December 2022 visit to Boston and then again at a January 2023 reception at Hampton Court Palace for England’s World Champion Wheelchair Rugby Team. They were also seen at a reception in November 2023.

The top seen today has also been worn before, but it remains a UFO (Unidentified Fashion Object). The Princess wore her Cassandra Goad Temple of Heaven earrings ($3407), shown below when worn on previous occasions.

Last week, the Princess also attended a performance of Akram Khan’s Giselle by the Engish National Ballet. She posted about the ballet on social media.

The Princess, who recently remarked that her health struggles have ‘above all reminded William and her to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted’, has long enjoyed dance performances.

She has been spotted in the audience at performances such as The Nutcracker over the years; both alone and with her daughter.

Here you see the Princess at a 2019 Royal Opera House visit, where she watched a rehearsal by the Royal Ballet

There are no photos from the event.

One other item of royal news this week: Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are expecting their second child.  Below, the announcement from Buckingham Palace on social media yesterday.

More via The Telegraph’s coverage

The late Queen’s granddaughter,36,  and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 40, are preparing to welcome the baby in the spring. The newborn will be a younger sibling for three-year-old Sienna and eight-year-old Christopher – known affectionately as Wolfie – Mr Mozzi’s son from his previous relationship with Dara Huang, an American architect.

Two new pictures were shared to mark the announcement, with one showing blonde-haired Sienna from behind as she walks along a country lane, holding hands in the middle of her father and big brother Wolfie.

All good wishes to the princess and her family!

Lovely to see Kate doing what she does best, highlighting and supporting others going thru life's difficult moments. I LOVE this Roland Mouret suit on her, it looked the best with the pale pink pussy bow blouse in worn in Boston in 2022 IMHO. Look forward to more postings of Kate at events as the festive season approaches.

What a sad story about young Liz. I went on her GoFundMe page and the updates are heartbreaking. How wonderful that William and Kate could give her some comfort and some recognition, by posting her photography on their official Instagram site. They are truly kind people, who excel in highlighting others over themselves.

It is so good to see Kate back into her work, although we all realize that her schedule must be modified. She looks good in the burgundy, Mouret pantsuit, but personally I don't care for flared pants that cover the shoes, giving the "I have no feet look." Not sure about the top under the jacket, as it looks rather drab. I might have chosen a colourful blouse in a small print that includes burgundy. Like ElizaMo has expressed before, I am not a fan of those wacky, albeit expensive, earrings. However, Kate's welcome presences is far, far more important than small details of her attire.

Warmest congratulation to Princess Beatrice and Edo on their announcement of another child on the way! There are going to be plenty of young, Royal cousins at family events.

@ElizaMo,

ElizaMo, you wrote: "As for the beige top, I don’t think Catherine has mastery of her taupe shades, and doesn’t always pick those that suit her, she regularly picks something that drains colour from her face. It’s helpfully offset here by the rich plum of the jacket her, which helps."

I'm not a big fan of beige or taupe, but I do like them when paired with white Or with bright colors like orange or red (which Catherine has worn together in the past, and just looked so wonderful, as I see it) or when set off by rich deep colors like her beautiful plum jacket and trouser, as you note, is a very nice color combo.

@Bonnie, I'm afraid I sounded a bit dry there, it's true. I'd go more for your style of earrings for church myself, but then I'm probably a bit of an old fossil by now. These earrings are of their time, I think, but my own preference is for something less boho.

As for the beige top, I don't think Catherine has mastery of her taupe shades, and doesn't always pick those that suit her, she regularly picks something that drains colour from her face. It's helpfully offset here by the rich plum of the jacket her, which helps. The lighting for the photograph also seems to have washed out everyone else's complexion which would add to a waif-like effect for the Princess. Only William has the advantage of hiding behind a beard.

Just to add to my calling the earrings "wacky", I just read an article from Hello Magazine about some of Kate's statement earrings. They used the word "zany," so obviously some of us are not fans. That said, I respect the right of every woman to express her own individuality. So although statement earrings will never be my preference, I'm okay if Kate or anyone wants to wear them.

@hrhdhd,

I join you in the view that, for dangle earrings, these are very restrained, (and especially so, as Catherine's hair covers much of them) but it is fun to read the word "wacky," and so, I'm glad Bonnie used that description and generated some conversation here!

Taste is so very personal. The older I've become, the more my taste has changed from conservative to more "out there," but I always envy those with conservative taste, as they seem to be seen by most people, as having good taste, and truly, it can be a wonderful thing to not stand out in a crowd, especially if one is shy. Of course, for Catherine, she doesn't have a choice; no matter where she goes, she will stand out. Personally I like that she doesn't always wear conservative earrings, but I also love the diamond and pearl, "everyday" earrings, that Bonnie mentioned Queen Elizabeth often wearing.

hrhdhd, I'd be the very first to admit that my taste in jewellery is conservative. I love a good stud earring, be it a pearl, a small diamond, a gold knot, a silver ball. If one can afford it, I prefer "real" jewellery over costume. I really appreciated that the late Queen, (unless it was a state occasion with tiaras and chandelier earrings) wore to every occasion, a diamond stud with a pearl suspended underneath. For my own personal use, I like the earrings to enhance an outfit, not be one of the first things people can see from across the room. My choice of the word "wacky" was maybe not the best, especially at that price point. But I guess that I am just not a fun person, when it comes to earrings. These ones at $3,407 are pricey, but so many of Kate's larger, jumbled, dangly earrings are very inexpensive. It puzzles me when she wears a dress costing several thousand and then wears cheap earrings. These Temple of Heaven earrings look like costume jewellery to me. Apparently according to the Cassandra Goad website, the earrings were inspired by the Emperor of China...although with 557 emperors, I don't know which one was responsible.

In the last blog post, when Kate wore these earrings to church, ElizaMo said, "I’m not so keen on the rather fussy Temple of Heaven earrings, especially for church, but they are a favourite of the Princess’s and so be it." Many of us consider ElizaMo to be very fashion savvy, besides being an excellent wordsmith. So I am happy to be aligned with someone who finds these earrings a bit too much. But as ElizaMo says..."so be it."

Welcome back Kate. Such a delight to see her slowly but surely. May it long continue.

Love the repeat, the colour, the fit and the many opportunities pant suits can be styled. Brilliantly tailored pant suits are above and beyond flattering especially with Kate's best accessory, her beaming smile.

Beautiful photos by Liz Hatton! I am so heartened that, even with a life threatening diagnosis, she is still engaged in life, and is making a Great contribution by being an Excellent photographer! I send prayers and heartfelt good wishes to her, and her family. No matter how many years she may have left to live, (and I hope she may have many more than is expected, at this time) she is living her life admirably, with courage and talent and love. Truly, not many can say that they are an inspiration to countless people, but she can definately claim that honor. ♥️

I am also heartened that Catherine, our Beloved Princess of Wales, has, with Prince William, reached out to Liz Hatton and her family, to provide Liz with this extraordinary experience! This is very moving!

♥️The group photo of the Prince and Princess of Wales, with Liz Hatton and her family, is quite lovely! ♥️

As to what Catherine wore, she looked very vibrant and elegant, in the Roland Mouret separates, which are such a gorgeous color! Of course, my special favorite, is of them is paired with the delicate pink blouse, with a soft bow, that she wore in Dec 2022 - but the beige top she chose for this event also looks quite good, especially paired with her gold earrings, which bring vitality to the entire look!

@Gail,

Yes, I very much share your hope as well Gail. Absolutely no pressure should be put on Catherine by anyone, (including herself). She must be eager to be over this, I'm thinking, but the body heals on its own time.

@Zell, It does look nice with her gold earrings, but the white top may have added a bit of brightness. Although Kate is looking better, she still looks a bit pale, and I hope she paces herself in the months to come.
