The Princess of Wales chose neutral separates for an engagement with Prince William at the Natural History Museum today.
Here is a quick video of the royals arriving courtesy of Cameron Walker of GB News.

The Princess greeting a child at the museum.
Many readers will recall that the Princess has been the museum’s royal patron since 2013. The couple was there to see the museum’s new gardens, described as “…a haven for wildlife and people in the heart of London.” The gardens are free to visit; no ticket is required. We learn more from this People article.
Princess Kate and Prince William learned how the gardens serve as a living laboratory, where visitors and scientists can view wildlife in an urban environment.
The royals met students taking part in the National Education Nature Park program.
Unfortunately, the outdoor activities at the museum were interrupted by a sudden downpour.
Emily Ferguson of The Express shared a video of the rain.
Unfortunately the heavens have opened… ☔️

We return to the People story.
Beverley Brown, an assistant headteacher at Kender Primary School, said, according to Hello!: “We had been waiting for the session to start, and the children were very excited. Princess Kate was in amongst us and said, ‘Let them go in,’ and ‘Let’s take them inside, it’s pouring.’
Kate was seen helping to guide the young students inside as the rain came down.
The Daily Mail has more in this piece.
All had to dry off inside the activity centre before the royals took part in a workshop helping the children identify animals encased in blocks and find their regular habitat.
Asked by a teacher for their findings, Catherine said the children in her group ‘decided spiders are everywhere.’
William rested his arm on one teacher’s damp shoulders and said: ‘Are you wet? We got you inside in time.’
Kensington Palace noted the rain in a social media post.
Here is a video from the Palace covering the museum visit.

We now look at what Kate wore for today’s engagement.
The blazer appears to be a past-season Ralph Lauren design, thanks to Ellie of Royal British Fashion via Middleton Maven. The single-breasted style is crafted in 100% wool tweed of a green/brown tweed, with notched lapels, angled flap pockets, darts, and a center back vent. I show it below as offered on resale site The Real Real.
Beneath the jacket, the Princess had on a white shirt with a point collar and flared cuffs. Both the Mail and the Telegraph are reporting it is by shirtmaker With Nothing Underneath. It’s possible she wore the label’s Boyfriend Exaggerated Cuff style ($155),but the button spacing on the cuffs doesn’t look quite the same. UPDATE: The brand tells Middleton Maven the shirt is their Boyfriend Style in 100% Tencel ($190), featuring a looser fit with pleats across the yoke.
I’m not able to tell if the trousers are a dark teal as they appear in some photos, or black, so at this point, they are unidentified. UPDATE SEP 5: A WKW Friend shared an interesting theory last night, and I think she is correct. She believes the trousers worn to the museum are the Reiss ‘Ginnie’ Slim-Leg Trousers seen in Scotland in May 2021, but with the cuff let out. Below left, the trousers in 2021, and in the center, the trousers worn yesterday.
The belt initially resembled the Anderson’s Croc Effect Leather Belt, which has been worn on multiple occasions; however, the buckle hardware is wider (seen below left) than the Anderson’s style shown below right.
It looks like the Princess wore loafers by Pretty Ballerinas, the Spanish brand specializing in flats and low-heeled designs that we have seen the Princess wear previously. The style is the Ella, with a pointed toe, fringed trim, and gold-toned hardware. Thank you to Kate Middleton Styled this ID, also via Middleton Maven.
The Princess wore her hair down with a loose curl. It is clearly lighter than it has been for some time; I was wrong in the most recent post covering August style through the years, saying I thought it was the sunshine making it look so light.
She brought back her Classic Blue Topaz Pear Drop Earrings (£850, roughly $1140 at today’s exchange rates) by Kiki McDonough. She wore her engagement ring, wedding band, the Annoushka Eclipse Eternity Band ($2200), and the sapphire/diamond band believed to be Cartier’s Etincelle style ($5000).
The Princess also wore necklaces by Daniella Draper, her Trio Diamond Midnight Moon necklace, and the Fixed Alphabet Style with the initials G, C, and L.
Here is one more photo from today’s engagement.

Whilst not a particular fan of the overly light colour of Catherine’s hair (I think it slightly washes her out, and personally much prefer it a couple of shades darker; maybe a few inches off) the media reaction was something to behold! The world seems to be in a general state of flux and the tabloids go hysterical over a hair dye job.........
The best bit for me is how totally unfazed Catherine was once the torrential rain played havoc with the waves/curves - there is a back view as she and William were leaving.
Nothing wrong with the outfit, it’s a ‘Catherine uniform for nature and children related activity’ set pulled from the wardrobe, more or less.
They are both so good with youngsters, William earnestly engaging with the children, really talking to and with them was lovely to see.
Earlier this year I had a wander around the new garden area of the museum, really interesting, some rare specimens planted, fossils to look at, assorted other objects of interest, great for children and I also learnt a lot and enjoyed it. I was luckier with my weather in April!

I love classic styles and I loved this combo! The nature tones are perfect for a day that focuses on nature. I happen to love her long hair and I'm glad she's having fun with color. Someone made a comment about thinking Kate was a "soft summer"--I've always thought she belonged in the "winter" color group because she looks so good in strong colors, and less good in some pale shades. I'd be curious as to what others think (or even if people are still thinking about color theory the way they did in the 80s).

@Rooney K, @zell, colour is very important in job interviews. I suspect, as Zell said, that the shade of pink worn created an impression of optimism and friendliness, which was what the interviewers were looking for. Navy would have created an impression of maturity and professionalism. In the 1980s, when I was quite young, I wore an inexpensive navy skirt suit with an inexpensive navy and greyish striped blouse with a white collar and a red pussy bow to two job interviews. One job was in a bank, and the other was a job as a lawyer. I was offered both jobs. I recall that I felt confident in both interviews — not confident that I would get the job — I was shaking in my shoes, especially at the lawyer interview which was conducted by no fewer than 10 people — but confident in my appearance. I think my cheap navy suit conveyed an impression of maturity and professionalism, and the red pussy bow perhaps made me a bit more memorable than the other candidates. For my most recent job interview, I wore a black pencil skirt and black blazer with a red merino crew-neck top and black court shoes and I carried a black briefcase-style handbag. My shoes and the handbag were the most expensive items. The skirt, blazer and top were quite inexpensive. I think the combination of colours was what nailed the interview. Once again, I felt confident in what I was wearing, and I think the red made me a bit memorable to the interviewers.

@Zell, your instinct was correct--it was light pink! And it is a happy color. I certainly feel more serious in beige (that I don't wear much anymore). I think that you are correct that color affects us whether we realize it or not.

@Rooney K,
Hmm, I put in light pink, sorry I did that! Now I'm wondering what shade of pink you actually did wear? But, I'm thinking that any shade would look good with navy!

@Rooney K,
Rooney K, that's Extremely interesting to me!!! I think of pink as a happy color (and, I wonder if some of your success with the pink was also, not only how the light pink made you look, but also, perhaps, how it made you you Feel, wearing it, perhaps)?
Anyway, Navy and light pink are wonderful together! The navy communicates seriousness and maturity and the light pink connotes friendliness and optimism. Not a bad set of traits to be communicating with one's outfit for a job interview! And, I'm not a color expert, but I do love color and I think it affects people when when they don't realize it.

@Zell, thank you for your elaboration! Many years ago when I was on the job market I had five interviews. I wore the same navy blue suit to each interview. Every time I wore one blouse (pink, which brightened my complexion) I was offered the job; every time I wore another blouse (beige, which washed me out) I was not offered the job! This may be total coincidence, but I now think very carefully about what I'm wearing in situations where the outcome is especially important. The Princess does not need to worry about job applications, and I'm glad she wears a wide range of colors and styles.

She is who she is so with a face and body like hers she could do just about anything and still look beautiful. But I’m not a fan of the hair color and while I’ve always been a fan of her long hair I now think it’s time for some inches to come off. And the outfit seems to clash with the hair color. But hey, if she’s loving it so be it.

Perhaps it’s simply that this outfit is something I would wear in my own day to day life, but I love this! The trousers are so flattering, and I think the tweed blazer and the crisp white shirt are beautifully classic. I also love the shoes!! Yay for (interesting) flats! The perfect ensemble for a more casual event with kids.
As for her hair, I like her lighter shades of brunette best anyway, instead of the very dark coloring she sometimes has. I think most women like to have fun with their hair colour sometimes and freshen things up—why not her? I also don’t think it’s too long at all. But perhaps that’s simply because I’m currently missing my own long hair after cutting it into a bob two years ago!

I LOVE Catherine's new hair color! It is Amazing and Gorgeous! It's somehow both golden and brunette at the same time. It looks like a kind of bronde color, that makes me think of a golden overlay of shimmery sun shining down on her. It is STUNNING AND BEAUTIFUL. I have always admired her hair, but, these days, it just keeps getting ever more beautiful, if possible!
I love that Catherine seems to keep doing Exactly what She wants to do, with Her hair. Don't we all have that right, more or less (I would imagine some jobs won't allow for purple or pink hair, etc).
I Love that Catherine has super long, wonderful, golden tendrils of hair! Personally, I think she looks Terrific! I couldn't carry it off, but she sure can! It's Princess hair, but not stuffy or stuck up. Catherine looks so graceful with such hair, and I don't think it really has anything to do with the cancer ordeal that she underwent. I tend to think that, even if that ordeal had never happened, she would have this kind of hair. I would guess, though, that since she did go though such a severe and life altering health calamity, and has now come through it and is on the other side of it, that she may now have even more conviction to suit herself, especially with things like her hair. Life is just too short to worry about what other people think about one's hair, even for (or maybe even Especially for) a Princess.
Moving on from her lovely hair, her outfit is fine for a rainy day with children and she looks like she's having fun in the video!

@Sarah,
Sarah, it makes me happy to know that my words made you smile! I love what you wrote about Catherine:
"What shines through in all her appearance is her gentle nature and generous smile. I love all her outfits whether bright and cheery and/or neutrals because it not only fits the occasion but she is always well put together."
Yes, I think you expressed it all so well, Sarah. Thank you for such a lovely reply, I very much appreciate it!

@Zell, lovely comment, it brought a smile to face, in light of some of the unkind commentary on social media and I agree with it 💯. What shines through in all her appearance is her gentle nature and generous smile. I love all her outfits whether bright and cheery and/or neutrals because it not only fits the occasion but she is always well put together.
