Prince George Attends Festival of Remembrance for the First Time

Prince George attended the Festival of Remembrance for the first time this evening, accompanying his mother to the annual event.

Prince William was unable to attend because he is returning from Brazil, where he attended the Earthshot Prize Awards and the COP26 conference. Below, the Prince on stage during the awards earlier this week.

The event is held at the Royal Albert Hall.

This year’s event marks a number of key anniversaries. The programme reflects on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two, acknowledging the scale of sacrifice across Britain and the Commonwealth.

It also recognises the experiences of bereaved military families, with a particular focus on children whose parents have died during service.

The entertainers on the bill include ….Sam Ryder and Keala Settle, along with performances by the Central Band of the RAF, the RAF Squadronaires and the Band of HM Royal Marines.

Veterans in attendance included some who had helped to plan D-Day – when Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, marking the start of the campaign to liberate north-west Europe during World War Two – and some who had been prisoners of war.

Several images from the Royal British Legion are seen in his social media post.

The Prince has been taking part in more events with senior royals. Many readers will recall that he joined his parents at a reception in May marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Here is a video posted by Kensington Palace after tonight’s performance.

Now, for our look at what Kate wore.

The Princess chose a dress by Alessandra Rich for tonight’s event, a style from the brand’s s/s 2025 collection. It is the Envers Lace Mikado-Trimmed Peplum Dress ($988 most recently). The dress is made of an acetate/viscose blend, and it features an oversized collar made of Mikado, a fabric often used in evening and bridal gowns.
One of the most popular bridal fabrics in Europe, Mikado is a textured fabric with a slight sheen. Compared to satin, Mikado is more stiff which gives more architectural structure to the dress design.
The dress also has a peplum waist, double-breasted bodice, shoulder pads, a bow at the collar, and gathered sleeves with three-button cuffs.

The Princess accessorized with her Mulberry Bayswater clutch. Her shoes *may* have been the Gianvito Rossi 105 pumps in black suede, but I haven’t seen enough photos to say that is definitely the case.

She also wore the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings and her UFO (Unidentified Fashion Object) cross necklace.

She also wore her HMS Glasgow Brooch and a poppy created by Izzy Ager of Lock & Co. Hatters. Ms. Ager is a hand embroidery artist and a recent graduate of the Royal School of Needlework. Emily Ferguson of the Daily Express reports the poppy was “handmade using silk, glass, and other natural materials.”

In August, we had our first internships with Lock & Co. Hatters. Students were interviewed for the two, two-week internship places. The successful students were second year student, Izzy Ager and first year student Harriet Hawtry-Coombs. They were awarded £1500 each for their internship and spent time learning the many facets of the Lock & Co. Hatters business, from millinery techniques, to marketing, social media, photo shoots and accounting, an amazing opportunity!
UPDATE NOV. 9: Lock and Co. have provided more information and photos of the poppy pins on their Instagram page.

The company notes: “Each piece takes around 12 hours to make and is modelled on a real poppy, transforming fabric and thread into a symbol of remembrance and peace. Available as an exclusive limited edition at Lock & Co. Hatters, each poppy is priced at £500, with profits donated to the Royal British Legion.”

The brooch was first noted in May of this year when the Princess took part in the naming ceremony for the HMS Glasgow. Below, a better view of it via James Porter and Son, the Scottish jewelry firm that designed the brooch featuring a depiction of St. Kentigern — patron saint of Glasgow — framed by the Scottish thistle.

I’ll see you tomorrow with coverage of Remembrance Sunday events.

The First Impression was rather good, because it reminds me on Diana‘s romantic Style Phase in the early 1980s. Kate‘s Version Looks more solemn though and it has a darker mood, which again fits not only the occasion but also the current era. On the fashion ad the ensemble looks a little bit gimmic-y like something “Olivia” from “Poppy” would wear. However the lighting at the venue seemed to swallow a lot of the decorative details on the black fabric, which serves the overall look. It’s a rather weird choice but surprisingly it looked alright on Kate.

I rather like the dress, and the collar is the perfect foil for that lovely pin. I didn't even notice all the details e.g. peplum waist because the dress is black and the details just disappear.

I really like this Alessandra Rich dress. I think it was a perfect choice for this occasion. I admire the way Catherine is able to wear a dress such as this one with its many intricate design elements in a way that is so elegant and stately. Everything drapes so well. The silhouettes in the photos are so smooth. Black of course is the appropriate color for the occasion. The many design elements remind me of the way people would want to remember with honor, love, and lasting memories their veterans and heroes as well-decorated in gratitude for their arduous service to their country. The white collar lights up Catherine's face and is like a fine canvass waiting for art, in this case, the lovely brooch and stunning handmade red poppy. Catherine rocks long hair styles and it is great to see her trying new ones. This hairstyle is splendid in my opinion.

Good morning, Does anyone know why she picked the HMS Glasgow brooch for this occasion? I love it, but am confused. Why that brooch on this occasion? If someone who knows more about the royals, and the symbolism of the jewelry, could explain it to me, I'd very much appreciate it.

I love this entire outfit on Catherine even if I have a few teeny quibbles, but they are quite minor.

First: a palette of black, white and red is always looks Dynamic! There's lots of power in all 3 of those colors.

I just Love the Victorian vibes this dress is giving, with the prominent white collar edged in lace, the peplum waist, and the lovely gathered sleeves with 3 buttons. As to the collar I think it is stunning but, perhaps, a tiny bit on the stiff side. I would prefer it to look a bit softer, with maybe a rounded collar rather than the straight up and down one that looks so strict in the v it forms. However, this stiffness does impart a a lot of drama! The collar also serves as a snowg backdrop for the HMS Glasgow Brooch and the amazing poppy! (Wow, I would Love to have one of those poppies but they are quite outside my budget). I adore the bright scarlet poppy, and am happy that Catherine always wears different ones each year, (and every kind she wears looks amazing and gorgeous on her).

Catherine's Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings and diamond cross are both exquisite! Her hair is, too, in lovely, soft waves.

I think this look is a Definite winner! Those who favor a more minimalist approach won't agree, but, by the same token, I have had to make myself keep a more open mind to some of those less embellished looks that, for me, are not always my favorites, that Catherine wears.

Personally, I just adore it, when Catherine goes for the glam and the Romance of a very feminine, vintage inspired look, like this dress. I have a fondness for what many do not like, such as her Adrienne Rich dresses. I see nothing at all wrong with how pretty they are.

People may say that this dress looks like what a "French maid" or a "nun" might wear - as if that means it has to be a bad thing. It doesn't have to mean that, because this is actually a Classic presentation. that combines a sophisticated, slightly severe edge (that strict collar) with a charming and romantic aspect (the gathered fabric, the cuffs with buttons, the lace edging the collar, the pretty jewelry).

I think that a black dress, with an extravagant white collar with lace, is Always going to be loved by many. Not everyone, but many will love such a look, and Catherine pulls it off beautifully!

As to Prince George, he looks so mature and has such a strong, yet sensitive face. He is still very young, yet, in the photos, I see a great gravitas about gim. I'm sure he's also a boy who has a lighter side too, but I'm very impressed with how he conducts himself when he is part of such a ceremony as this.
