The Wales Family Celebrates Easter at Windsor

The Wales Family Celebrates Easter at Windsor

The Princess of Wales brought back a Self Portrait design for today’s Easter Matins service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

More from this People piece.

While William, 43, and Kate, 44, have long marked Easter with the royal family — with William taking part in the tradition since childhood — the couple missed the annual outing in both 2024 and 2025, making this year’s appearance a notable return.

They skipped the 2024 service after Princess Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis just weeks earlier, choosing instead to spend the holiday privately with their children. Last year, the family spent Easter more than 100 miles from Windsor at their Norfolk country home, where they often retreat during school breaks.

A sizable group of Royal Family members joined the King and Queen for the service. In the photo below, you can see the Princess Royal in deep teal or turquoise, her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence (behind Prince William), the Duke of Edinburgh, and his son, James, Earl of Wessex, Peter Phillips and his fiancée, Harriet Sperling, Daniel Chatto, and Lady Sarah Chatto.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, was reported to be a bit under the weather, and Lady Louise Windsor is studying at college. Here is a video shared by Rebecca English of The Daily Mail of family members arriving at the chapel.

In this image, you can see Princess Anne, Sir Tim, and Ms. Sperling’s 13-year-old daughter, Georgina, behind Princess Charlotte.

Cheers were heard from onlookers as Prince William and Catherine led their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, into the chapel.

As they walked, Princess Charlotte waved to the crowds of people watching on from behind barriers.

After the hour-long service – during which prayers were said for the Royal Family and the National Anthem sung – the royal party moved from the chapel to the deanery for tea with the Dean of Windsor, The Right Reverend Christopher Cocksworth.

After around 20 minutes, Charles appeared alongside Camilla, who was presented with a beautiful posy by Kit Bannan, 10, a member of the Windsor Castle community.

The couple did a walkabout, greeting well-wishers gathered nearby.

As they left the chapel, the King and Queen shook the hands of the public, wishing them a happy Easter.

The Queen remarked that the service was “good” when asked how it was.

We move now to what Kate wore for Easter 2026.

We begin with her Self Portrait Belted Cream Crepe Lace Embroidered Jacket Dress (no longer available) in 100% polyester, described as a “midi wrap dress… cut from crepe …designed with a long-sleeve bodice that is fitted at the waist with a leather belt and falls to a pleated midi skirt. The shoulders are accentuated with shoulder pads.”

The style was first worn for an engagement with Princess Anne in April 2022

The Princess debuted a new chapeau by Juliette Botterill today: the Oak Leaf Teardrop Hat (£680, roughly $900 at today’s exchange rates) in the color “Oyster.” It is a teardrop-shaped percher style in sculpted felt with hand-cut oak leaves, “worn on a slim headband with hat elastic, available in your choice of hair colour for a secure and comfortable fit.”

The Princess repeated her Nano Montreal Bag ($450) in Deep Toffee Smooth by DeMellier London, measuring about 7″ x 5″ and featuring a top handle and a detachable crossbody strap.

She brought back her Ralph Lauren Celia Calfskin Pumps ($750) in the “RL Gold” colorway.

We also saw the return of the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings and the Princess’s unidentified cross pendant.

I’ll leave you with one more photo from today.

Happy Easter and Chag Pesach Sameach to all celebrating Easter and Passover.

I do not understand why the PoW is wearing those long, long skirts now. QEII at the same age was wearing much less dowdy lengths, and looked like a woman of her time. Catherine is starting to look a bit costume-y at these public-facing events. I love the hat though!

Okay, I am obsessed with and want Charlotte's coat, in adult size. I can't stop looking at it.

Wouldn’t it be marvellous if we all knew just a smidge more about each other’s style, not the private stuff, but the fun bits that make our wardrobes uniquely ours? Imagine how much clearer our conversations might feel if we had a little window into the fashion personality behind each comment.

We’re such a fabulous mix. Some of us appear to be classic to the core: think sensible skirts, neatly buttoned cardigans, and a colour palette that whispers rather than shouts. And then there are the glorious bower birds amongst us, those who swoop in on vintage finds, quirky treasures, and pieces that absolutely refuse to coordinate with anything else in the closet… and that’s precisely the charm.

Shoes alone could spark a documentary. Are you a sleek pump devotee? A heels-all-day hero? Or perhaps you prefer the sturdy, chunky flats that could probably survive an apocalypse. Maybe you have a signature colour. Maybe you follow fashion religiously. Or maybe you couldn’t care less what’s “in” and simply wear whatever sparks joy at 7am.

Sharing these little style snapshots could be a delightful activity, and offer a fun peek into the personality behind each post. It might be especially enjoyable during quieter moments, like when the Princess and her family are on holiday recess, and it could set the stage nicely as we all look ahead to the English summer and its parade of events.

Could be a whole topic for another day.

@Sally, Sounds fun and joyful, although should be done totally separate from commenting on what Kate recently wore. Otherwise, the comments might get very muddled. We likely already know the style of those who comment frequently. It would be interesting to hear from the rest.

@Sally, really interesting idea and its making me think about myself and wonder if I have any style 😆 It definitely ebbs and flows. I might have to ask a friend or two.

@Sally, oh yes please, what a fabulous activity to understand the style behind the writer. Oh but no hair comments and styles.

I love Kate’s style, except not the pineapple boobs. It is just such a bizarre thing to have on that location.

It was a big surprise to see the Wales-family at the Easter service. And the re-wear of the self-portrait ensemble was a surprise as well as I appreciate re-wears for their sustainability. This time I do like the ensemble much more with the contrasting tan shoes and bag and the lovely hat then at its first engagement back in 2022. It seems I am in the minority here that I like the outfit.

I suggest that the UFO-necklace with the diamond cross is made by Tiffany & Co. Princess Catherine has already worn it before her wedding and in the 1990s and 2000s this style was very en vogue.
