The Wales Family Celebrates Easter at Windsor

The Wales Family Celebrates Easter at Windsor

The Princess of Wales brought back a Self Portrait design for today’s Easter Matins service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

More from this People piece.

While William, 43, and Kate, 44, have long marked Easter with the royal family — with William taking part in the tradition since childhood — the couple missed the annual outing in both 2024 and 2025, making this year’s appearance a notable return.

They skipped the 2024 service after Princess Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis just weeks earlier, choosing instead to spend the holiday privately with their children. Last year, the family spent Easter more than 100 miles from Windsor at their Norfolk country home, where they often retreat during school breaks.

A sizable group of Royal Family members joined the King and Queen for the service. In the photo below, you can see the Princess Royal in deep teal or turquoise, her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence (behind Prince William), the Duke of Edinburgh, and his son, James, Earl of Wessex, Peter Phillips and his fiancée, Harriet Sperling, Daniel Chatto, and Lady Sarah Chatto.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, was reported to be a bit under the weather, and Lady Louise Windsor is studying at college. Here is a video shared by Rebecca English of The Daily Mail of family members arriving at the chapel.

In this image, you can see Princess Anne, Sir Tim, and Ms. Sperling’s 13-year-old daughter, Georgina, behind Princess Charlotte.

Cheers were heard from onlookers as Prince William and Catherine led their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, into the chapel.

As they walked, Princess Charlotte waved to the crowds of people watching on from behind barriers.

After the hour-long service – during which prayers were said for the Royal Family and the National Anthem sung – the royal party moved from the chapel to the deanery for tea with the Dean of Windsor, The Right Reverend Christopher Cocksworth.

After around 20 minutes, Charles appeared alongside Camilla, who was presented with a beautiful posy by Kit Bannan, 10, a member of the Windsor Castle community.

The couple did a walkabout, greeting well-wishers gathered nearby.

As they left the chapel, the King and Queen shook the hands of the public, wishing them a happy Easter.

The Queen remarked that the service was “good” when asked how it was.

We move now to what Kate wore for Easter 2026.

We begin with her Self Portrait Belted Cream Crepe Lace Embroidered Jacket Dress (no longer available) in 100% polyester, described as a “midi wrap dress… cut from crepe …designed with a long-sleeve bodice that is fitted at the waist with a leather belt and falls to a pleated midi skirt. The shoulders are accentuated with shoulder pads.”

The style was first worn for an engagement with Princess Anne in April 2022

The Princess debuted a new chapeau by Juliette Botterill today: the Oak Leaf Teardrop Hat (£680, roughly $900 at today’s exchange rates) in the color “Oyster.” It is a teardrop-shaped percher style in sculpted felt with hand-cut oak leaves, “worn on a slim headband with hat elastic, available in your choice of hair colour for a secure and comfortable fit.”

The Princess repeated her Nano Montreal Bag ($450) in Deep Toffee Smooth by DeMellier London, measuring about 7″ x 5″ and featuring a top handle and a detachable crossbody strap.

She brought back her Ralph Lauren Celia Calfskin Pumps ($750) in the “RL Gold” colorway.

We also saw the return of the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings and the Princess’s unidentified cross pendant.

I’ll leave you with one more photo from today.

Happy Easter and Chag Pesach Sameach to all celebrating Easter and Passover.

Lovely I didn’t see this one coming but it’s always good to see a rewear. Nicely assessorised too and I love the new hat.

It's a lovely outfit for Easter, and the darker shoes and bag are a good choice as they add richness. But the lengths Catherine has been wearing look like they belong on our grandmothers. To my eyes, about 4 inches off this skirt would be a much better balance. There's just too much fabric flapping about.

A polished and elegant look for Kate, as always. I like the new hat and I adore how she matches with Charlotte.

The winner of the day for me was Princess Anne! I love that turquoise color on her and the boots with the sassy fringe are to die for!

I'm so Happy to see the Princess of Wales out on this Easter of 2026!

She looks lovely, even though her jacket is a bit boxy, and the appliques on the jacket look too stiff. Unfortunately, the color of Catherine's dress and hat, pale beige, is not in a pretty, Spring color, as I see it. I think this same outfit would have looked much nicer, in either powder blue, or a delicate rose pink. As is, I keep getting Autumn vibes, with what the Princess wore. Her hat, while gorgeous, has acorn leaves on it, which Definitely makes me think of Autumn. Also, very non Spring-like, is the beige and brown coat that Princess Charlotte wore today - and also wore last Christmas. Queen Camilla, in a bright red coat, is further making me think of Christmas, because she wore a bright red coat last Christmas, which was Excellent, for Christmas, that is. All these repeated colors, of red, brown and beige, are making me feel like I'm in some kind of time warp, from several months ago. The posey that the Queen was given did help a bit, to bring things back to the present time, as the vivid Easter flowers looked great against Camilla's red coat, but even so, I personally think thsy bright red is too intense for Easter. The Gorgeous dark blue coat that Queen Camilla wore last Thursday (Maundy Thursday) would have been a much better choice for Easter day, in the same dark blue, or purple.

Anne, Princess Royal, was stunning in her teal ensemble, and Harriet Sterling wore a very pretty blue dress. The blue outfits looked the nicest, prettiest and most Spring-like to my eye.

Catherine's creamy Beige also made her look a little washed out, unfortunately. Still, she looked beautiful, even so (but, in spite of her outfit's colors, not because of them).

If I could have my druthers, the pale beige would have had been a rosy color, and the coat that Charlotte wore would have been in soft blue, with darker blue accents. How Pretty & Springy that would have looked, just Perfect for Easter!

On a positive note, it's Wonderful to see the Prince and Princess of Wales attend Easter services, with their children, after a long absence of seeing them on this very special day!

I wish a Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

Happy Easter and Joyous Passover, to all who celebrate! The Royal Family do make this a special occasion.

I still feel exactly the same way about Kate's Self Portrait outfit, as I did when she wore it in 2022. I like it, with the exception of the "pineapple" lace appliques on either side. To my eye they look wrong. It is like the outfit was created and the designer thought it was too plain, so as an after thought added the pineapples, in an attempt to spiff it up. Kate's hat is a good match and I like the detail of the oak leaves. The shoe and purse colour provides a good contrast, although the purse seems a tad small. The Bahrain pearl earrings look better with the cross pendant, than the ones worn with it to the recent installation of the Archbishop of Canterbury, although I still think it would look best with diamond studs.

Commenting on some of the other ladies, I was surprised to see Camilla wearing the exact same coat and hat that she wore less than a month ago, at the Commonwealth Service. Repeats are usually spaced further apart. Anne's vivid turquoise really brightens things up. Harriet, the fiancee of Peter Phillips, certainly has the Royal dress style under control.
