We are back with something I know readers will enjoy, an opportunity to win a pair of the stunning Aquatalia boots Kate is known for wearing so frequently.
But first, a spot of background on why we’re doing the giveaway: Aquatalia has generously donated another pair of Rhumba boots to help us boost awareness and $$$ (or £££ or €€€, whatever currency works where you are) for the Baby Cambridge Fundraiser. The fundraiser is being done by royal/fashion bloggers with all proceeds going directly to one of Kate’s patronages, EACH, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices. Below, a little one receiving care at an EACH hospice.
Here we see Kate visiting another EACH facility in March of 2012.
We are wrapping up our primary fundraiser efforts, and would be ever-so-grateful if you would consider donating even $2 or £2 (anything you can) by visiting our Just Giving page. We have exceeded our goal, but would love to put a little icing on the fundraising cake, so to speak.
Now we move on to the really fun part of today’s post, the boot giveaway. Below we see the Duchess sporting her Rhumba boots on a trip to Saint Andrews University with William in February of 2011.
For that engagement in Scotland Kate paired her Rhumbas with a Luisa Spagnoli dress/jacket. Below we offer a better look at the boots.
Kate has been a fan of Aquatalia for some time, here she wears another pair of the brand’s boots.
It is identical to Kate’s pair and last year’s Royal, with one exception: the hardware. Below we show the Royalty and the Royal side-by-side. The materials, construction, upper, everything is the same, the hardware is just a touch more distinctive.
Saks now offers the Rhumba as well as other Aquatalia styles; Nordstrom continues to offer a selection of Aquatalia footwear, they still have a solid selection of the Royal available in the leather version (and it is on sale!), but only a very limited range of sizes in the suede style worn by Kate, and just large sizes in the black Rhumba. And Zappos also offers a solid selection of Aquatalia.
The change in seasons means Aquatalia is launching its Pre-Fall 2013 collection, offering new designs across the board. We’ll look at a few from the “Marvin K.” group, a line targeted at those “seeking a bit more adventure in their footwear”. Below, new smoking-style shoes, both in soft suede: on the left we see the Adrianna, and on the right, the Angelica.
Both are from Aquatalia’s Sacchetto collection, a group that sounds comfy but also looks über-stylish.
Developed in Italy, our unique Sacchetto collection molds to the foot and offers unmatched flexibility while maintaining shape….the lining gently encloses the foot like a glove. We also add a high tech compression-resistant cushioning which is sewn directly into the lining and foot bed for a supportive fit with every step.
The result is the most comfortable and lightweight fashion shoe ever to meet your feet.
Below we see the Paige style from this collection.
And the the Utopia2 Stretch Mini-Wedge.
On to our giveaway. The prize is a stunning pair of Aquatalia Rhumba boots in this fall’s newest color, anthracite.
The Rhumba now comes in six colors: taupe, anthracite, espresso, wine, navy and black.
This pair offers all the great design and construction elements found in Kate’s Rhumbas, beginning with that stretchy suede upper that is weatherproofed, making for a more comfortable fit. There is an inside zipper, slip-resistant rubber sole, and 2.5″ walking height (3.25″ stacked leather heel with 0.75″ platform). Like all of Aquatalia’s footwear, the boots are made in Italy.
The contest runs from Monday August 26 through 11:59pm on September 2nd. We will announce the winner on the 4th. This particular giveaway is open only to residents of Canada and the 48 states of the Continental US and the District of Columbia. Here’s how to enter:

Today new photos of Kate, William and George were released.
As is generally the case of late we have a few updates to share before diving into fashion news. We begin with word that the first official photos of Kate, William and Prince George are to be released on Monday. That is according to the Mail on Sunday:
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to break another Royal tradition, this time by releasing candid photos of their son in place of an official portrait.
The pictures, due to be revealed tomorrow, were taken by a member of the Middleton family at their Berkshire home.
Next, news that Kate and Prince George have made the journey back to Anglesey, joining Prince William in their rented farmhouse. More on the pair’s return to Wales with Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, from the Daily Mail:
…when Kate and the baby moved back to Anglesey at the start of this week to be with Prince William, who returned to duty as a rescue helicopter pilot ten days ago, Mrs Middleton was persuaded to go with them to help the duchess and the baby settle in.
William was seen by locals out and about with Mrs Middleton while Kate remained at the isolated, whitewashed farmhouse.
Rebecca English reports reports that Mrs. Middleton has now returned home to Bucklebury. While Kate and William have chosen not to have a nanny, they do have some staff helping out. The housekeeper/cook hired they hired, Antonella Fresolone, is also in Anglesey.
We move now to an update for Kate’s calendar: she will be attending the Tusk Conservation Awards with Prince William on Thursday, September 12th.
This is the first year for the Awards, the dinner will “recognize and celebrate outstanding achievement in the field of African conservation”. Many know how important Tusk’s mission and work are to William, Harry and Kate. The organization has raised more than $25 million for work on projects across Africa, William became the charity’s Royal Patron in 2005 and Prince Harry is also a patron.
Our next tidbit also involves Prince William, he has given his first television interviews since Prince George was born. A tip of the tiara goes to our pal Max Foster of CNN, he landed the first sit-down with the new dad.
More on the upcoming program from CNN:
The future king of Britain sat down with CNN’s Max Foster to talk about baby George, his wife Catherine, and what it’s like to be a new father.
In the…special William tells CNN how his love of Africa and its endangered species were instilled in him by his father, Prince Charles, and late mother Princess Diana.
The interview is part of a one-hour special, “Prince William’s Passion: New Father, New Hope,” which will premiere on CNN and CNN International on Sunday, September 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
In the USA a portion of the interview will air Monday morning (the 19th) during the network’s New Day program. Some CNN releases say 8am, others say 8:30am. If I had to predict which half-hour will have the interview, I would expect to see it in between 8:30 – 9am.
Max speaks about his efforts to land an interview with Prince William in a blog post:
Big royal interviews don’t happen overnight and if you’re lucky, they come through and at just the right time. For a long while, I have wanted to speak to Prince William about the cause closest to his heart, African conservation, and I’ve been in contact with his office for more than two years about making it happen.
We got to thinking about who the Duchess might wear for her first formal engagement since the arrival of Prince George. She has stayed with a fairly steady group of designers for party frocks over the years; with Issa no longer an option (more here on why not) the list of previous notable names is even shorter.
The Duchess has always looked elegant for black tie occasions, below we take a look at those designers she has previously chosen for formal appearances. On the far left the Duchess wears Temperley’s Amoret gown to a Saint Andrews fundraiser, she is in Jenny Packham for both the ARK Gala in 2011, as well as the pre-Olympic Greatest Team Rises dinner held in May of 2012.
Another likely designer: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Below we see Kate wearing McQueen at three different functions: a 2012 Malaysian State Dinner, in black velvet for the Sun Military Awards in December of 2011, and the lilac gown seen at the Hollywood BAFTA dinner. (The Duchess also wore a McQueen frock for the BBC Sports Awards last December.) This is very much a go-to designer for Kate when it comes to creating formal dresses.
Others that quickly come to mind: Amanda Wakeley, designer of the aqua frock worn to an In Kind Direct reception October 2011; Beulah London, Kate wore the brand’s ‘Sarai’ dress for a 100 Women in Hedge Funds dinner; and Roland Mouret, he designed the ‘Lombard’ evening gown Kate wore to a Claridge’s dinner with William.
Kate could stick with one of these designers, or experiment with someone new. Either way, it will be a delight to see her in formal attire.
Our final updates examine older styles worn by Kate that we hadn’t yet shared in this space. Below we see Kate on her way to work back in January of 2007.
The future Duchess wore a blazer from Zara atop a cable knit sweater and and what many believe are Levi’s. She carried an Explorer Holdall in heavy sailcloth canvas by Tusting, a longtime maker of heritage leather goods in the UK.
She also has her Tod’s Lady D bag in black leather with white contrast stitching, double handles and metal feet.
Our other IDs are pieces seen on Kate in 2009.
In June of 2009 Kate was at Cirencester Park Polo Club to watch William and Harry play a match. She wore another piece by Zara, a leather jacket with multiple seams and pockets, exposed zippers, an elasticized waistband and elasticized stand collar. Underneath the jacket she was in a piece by Elie Tahari, a lightweight yellow top with a lacy bodice and lace-trimmed scoop neck. Our thanks to Hannah G., as well as My Small Obsessions on Facebook and eBay seller Copy Kate for some of the information and/or images shown on these older styles.
We begin with a few updates, the first involving Prince William’s return to work in Angelsey…. or not.
There were multiple reports last week that William returned to work at RAF Valley in Wales, while at least one other story claims William remained with Kate and her family in Bucklebury. Regardless, there seemed to be general agreement that the Prince spent this weekend at a bachelor party in honor of his friend James Meade, who will marry Lady Laura Marsham September 14. It is expected both Kate and William will attend the wedding.
William and friends visited Saunton Sands Beach in Devon (in southwestern England), known for its favorable surfing conditions.
Excitement is building after it was announced that the Duke of Cambridge will attend the Anglesey Show on August 14 to say a big thank you to the community before he departs the island after more than three years.
On his visit Prince William will be presented with a gift by show organisers, and will also meet young farmers.
The event, which is the largest two-day agricultural show in North Wales, will feature a collection of livestock of up to 300 cattle and 800 sheep. There will also be 350 trade stands featuring agricultural products, clothing, crafts and vehicles.
And there are expectations Kate will join him at some point before his tour of duty at RAF Valley ends in September. More from the Express:
However, a royal source has said that the mother and child will join Prince William at the farmhouse that the couple rent very soon.
The Express story notes that Kate, William and Prince George are expected to join the Queen in Scotland at some point during HM’s annual visit to Balmoral:
The family are due to holiday in Balmoral in the next few weeks, where Prince George will meet his great-grandad Prince Philip for the very first time.
In Bucklebury reaction to the Prince’s arrival remains positive. A store where Kate and her family have shopped, L. Interiors, is offering these in honor of the newest Royal.
The company has also created Prince George Crown in the same motif.
Next, the Banana Republic Issa collaboration, the collection launched online and in-store last week.
For many the most anticipated piece in the collection was the blue wrap dress modeled after Kate’s engagement dress. Unfortunately there was a bit of a hiccup, the dress color was mislabeled.
Above, a Banana Republic Facebook post about the dilemma. Below, the graphic accompanying that post.
You can understand the confusion; comments on the company’s Facebook page reflected customers’ consternation, here is a small sampling:
Several WKW friends tried on and/or purchased the dress, they were kind enough to share some of their photos with us. Below we see Jessica Reinis of CNN in the dress, she tried on the frock at the Lincoln Center store.
The dress is not silk like the original Issa, at $130 I wouldn’t expect it to be. It is a blend of 50% Rayon, 28% Lyocell, 19% Cotton, 5% Spandex. Below, WKW Facebook friend Veronica Aliaga in the frock.
As of this writing it appears the blue “Three-Quarter Sleeve Wrap-Tie Dress” (as the dress is named)
remains available online in a Small only is sold out online. The availability online and in-store is better for the Merlot version.
‘The Lady and the Rose’ on Twitter tried on the dress in both the blue and merlot, posting these photos on twitter.
Things that do remain available online include other frocks, like one that is a solid repliKate for the black dress Kate wore shopping just days before her wedding. The original style remains available at the Issa London site, we show it below.
Accessories also seem to be in healthy supply.
Good luck to all those hunting for pieces from the Banana Republic/Issa collaboration. (To see why I don’t believe we will ever see Kate wearing Issa again, click here.)
We have very big news about our Baby Cambridge Fundraiser. And this one calls for a drum roll.
As you can see, we have
met exceeded our goal!! Thanks to each and every one of you who donated, we are ever-so-excited about the news. The beneficiary of your generosity is EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices), one of Kate’s patronages. For newer readers, the Fundraiser is a joint effort of five online royal fashion and news bloggers (British Royals, Kate Middleton Style, HRH Duchess Kate, A Petite Princess and yours truly).
There have been a number of giveaways and promotions designed to help draw attention to the Fundraiser since our launch several months ago. Today we have an update on the lucky winner of our most recent giveaway here at WKW; some may recall that particular promotion was sponsored by the fabulous folks at Style Rocks.
Knowing Kate’s affinity for citrine, Style Rocks donated an enormous citrine cocktail ring for the giveaway. Alese T., the winner, was kind enough to share photos of the beautiful ring.
How beautiful is it on Alese?!
That isn’t the end of our promotional efforts, the Fundraising effort runs through the end of August, we would love to exceed our goal by as much as possible. Stand by for a remarkable giveaway this week.
We also have an update on our polls asking for your favorite maternity style worn by Kate. I don’t think too many readers will be surprised by the results.
With more than 2500 votes, the #1 choice among all of Kate’s maternity styles is the Polka Dot dress by Topshop, shown below when Kate first wore it to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in late April of 2013.
Many thanks to everyone who took part in the voting!
We’ll see you in just a few days with that exciting giveaway we mentioned.
