Kate Wears Her Polly Push Lock (!), Pippa’s McQueen Dress for Sale

We begin with word of our Aquatalia by Marvin K. Contest winner, congratulations to:

****LAUREN KELLY from North Carolina*****

Lauren is the lucky winner of a pair of Flinch boots. Thank you to everyone who entered, and to the wonderful folks at Aquatalia, they are going to email everyone who entered the giveaway later this week with a special offer!

Next, an update on what Kate wore while she was out and about in London last Friday; there are a few photos here.  Kate was carrying her Mulberry Polly Push Lock handbag, a black sweater, tights and her suede ‘Cookie’ boots by Aquatalia Russell and Bromley ‘Charge It’ boots. The bracelet might look like the charm bracelet worn on many previous occasions, but if looking closely, one will see several smaller beads on the bracelet.

Our thanks to WKW Facebook friend Rachel for pointing out Kate was wearing Mulberry’s Polly Push Lock skirt.

“Polly Push Lock” at Mulberry

The skirt sold on the Mulberry USA site for $620, no one will be surprised to read that it is no longer available in the dark herringbone color worn by Kate. The skirt is a blend of 80% wool, 10% polyester and 10% nylon, it also comes in winter white, that color is a different fabric blend entirely.

StyleBop shows the dark color in stock for $665, although it is only available in two sizes, with a waitlist for other sizes. Mulberry has many other items in the ‘Polly Push Lock’ collection, including gloves and coats, along with additional apparel items.

Obviously there has been substantial discussion about just what might have been in the shopping bags. Below we share a few items that have a Kate look about them. On the left, Zara’s Blazer with Wide Lapels ($129.90), on the right, the Skirt with Side Hook ($59.90).

Two more thoughts, this dress with no style name ($59.90), or the Shiny Studio Dress ($159).

Zara

There is no shortage of possibilities at Zara for what Kate might wear, if we have time later this week we’ll share more of them.

Also last week The Daily Mail reports Kate visited a primary school to learn more about The Art Room. Here is some background on the organization from its website:

The Art Room offers ‘art as therapy’ to children and young people between the ages of 5 and 16, using art to raise their self-esteem, self-confidence and independence. Many are disengaged from mainstream education, disruptive or withdrawn and all have been identified as needing special time away from their school. Some of the students may have specific learning difficulties or have had an interrupted education. Some have recently arrived in this country, some are prime carers within their family, others are ‘looked-after’ children (children in care).

The story goes on at length regarding Kate’s decision to wear jeans and a sweater (jumper) for the trip, there is one blurry photograph accompanying the article.

Recognizing this is not What Pippa Wore (you are far better off visiting the #1 Pippa style blog here), we do share a note about the iconic bridesmaid gown Sarah Burton created; a version of the dress is now being offered for sale on Net-a-Porter, it is marketed as a wedding gown.

Net-a-Porter

The dress is selling for £1995, approximately $3120 at today’s exchange rates. Here is how the gown is described on the site:

Beautifully cut, elegant and timeless, Alexander McQueen’s silk-crepe gown will make an exquisite choice for your wedding day. The signature accentuated shoulders and draped neckline are effortlessly flattering – style a clean silhouette with swept-back hair and drop earrings for radiant, understated appeal.

There are many differences from Pippa’s gown: most notably, the use of a zipper on the back instead of the buttons seen on the original, also lacking, the lace trim used on Pippa’s dress at the sleeve hems and on the cowl neckline.

Net-a-Porter

I was surprised to see this offered for sale, even if it is several steps removed from the original dress.

There is another McQueen frock quite close to the original being offered on Net-a-Porter, here is the Cowl-neck wool-crepe dress.

Net-a-Porter

If there is any question about trading on the notoriety of the bridesmaid dress, here is the online description:

Designed with a similar silhouette to the gown worn by Pippa Middleton for the Royal Wedding, Alexander McQueen’s sculpted wool-crepe dress is an exquisitely flattering investment piece. Play up the stunning intense-red hue with black accessories and showcase the elegant cowl neck with a chignon.

Seeing this offered was also a surprise. The red dress was selling for £980 (about $1500), it is now out of stock.

If you knew how to sew reasonably well, you could make the Polly Push-Lock pleated skirt out of 1.5 yards of 100% wool (if you're Kate's size) with a similar push lock closure for about $30, including shipping. You could sew it in less than one weekend, and you wouldn't even need a pattern.

Finally she is shopping for things I can afford! This actually makes her more accessible than all the fancy clothes shopping trips... Who buys a black skirt for 600 pounds? You post about that, but not about what makes her real! How is seeing what she buys at the grocery store more invasive than looking up how much she spends on handbags and boots> I like this Kate best...
