It’s a Black Hoodie for Beaver Scouts Meeting & Kate’s Kenneth Jay Lane Earrings Can Be Ordered

Today the Duchess wore a black hoodie and skinny jeans for her engagement with the 23rd Poplar Beaver Scout Colony in East London.

The children were very excited to see Kate. How excited were they? Well, they didn’t know Kate was coming to their meeting, this tweet from the Daily Mail’s Rebecca English shows how surprised they were:

This particular Scout Group is fairly new, it opened as part of Better Prepared, more from Victoria Murphy’s story in the Daily Mirror:

Better Prepared is a new four year campaign to open Scouting groups in 200 of the country’s most deprived areas.

Kate started volunteering with the Scouts in January 2012 and organised BBQs for them on the beach near her Anglesey cottage.

The young Scouts were working on their Disability Awareness Activity Badges, so many of the evening’s activities were designed to help raise awareness of challenges encountered by those with disabilities.

More from Richard Palmer’s story in The Express:

Sporting the Scout hoodie and matching black jeans and boots, Kate, who was invited to join in all of the activities, was helping teach the children how to ice a cake blindfolded, cut up a chocolate bar with boxing gloves, learn the Scout Promise in sign language, and put a wet suit on blindfolded, supported by two-times world para triathlon champion Steve Judge.

Below you see Kate working with 6-year-old Fynley Gooch as they each try to frost a cupcake while blindfolded.

More about tonight from Gordon Rayner’s Telegraph story:

The Duchess was shown around by Carlos Lopez-Plandolit, the Beaver Scout colony leader, who became a volunteer about a year ago after coming to Britain five years ago from Spain to work for a technology company.

“It’s the most exciting thing that happened to me in five years,” said Carlos, 31. “Scout groups like the one that the Duchess is visiting this evening give young people access to some fantastic opportunities that they might not have access to otherwise.

“As someone who had never considered volunteering with The Scout Association until recently, I can’t recommend it enough!

Back to The Daily Mirror story:

Kate joined the 20 Beavers sitting in a circle and then, when everyone stood up, went around the circle, presenting each with a disability awareness badge.”Well done,” she told each Beaver. “Oh my gosh, look at all your badges,” she said to one. “How many? Have you been counting them?

Then Kate joined all the Beavers in using sign language to say the Scout’s Promise – “I promise to do my best, to be kind and helpful and to love my world” – before singing along to their farewell song “Goodnight Beavers”.

Kate is an official volunteer with the organization; the Queen is patron of UK Scouting. Kate wore a UK Scouting Hoodie for tonight’s engagements.

The piece is a cotton/poly blend with front pouch pockets, and ribbing at the cuffs and waistband. It is priced at £28, about $45 at today’s exchange rates.

Kate was also in black skinny jeans, it’s possible (if not likely) she was wearing the J. Crew denim worn in New York, the brand’s Maternity Toothpick Jean, or perhaps the Maternity Minnie PantUPDATED 8pm December 16, 2014: We have also had a comment saying that Kate was in Topshop’s MOTO Leigh jeans

I can’t make a determination from the photos I have access to this evening; hopefully, there will be others I can look at tomorrow. It’s certainly a possibility. Some thought Kate wore the MOTO on Father’s Day this year when watching William at a polo match.

And we thought it likely the Duchess was wearing Topshop’s MOTO maternity style when starting the Ring of Fire ultra-marathon in August, 2013. Topshop still offers that jean, and Nordstrom has carried it as well. The Duchess wore her Russell and Bromley Charge-It boots this evening…

Our thanks to the eagle-eyed Billie on the WKW Facebook page for noting that Kate is also wearing her Mappin & Webb ‘Fortune’ necklace.

For our final tidbit about the evening we return to Richard Palmer’s Express story:

“What’s your name?” One little boy asked her, pointing his finger at her.

“My name’s Catherine. Very nice to meet you,” she said.

We also want to share news about Kate attending a wedding over the weekend, info that many of you will have already seen. (Lacking licensed photos it didn’t make sense to send out a separate post about the event.) She wore her lacy Zarita gown from Diane von Furstenberg, Really Wild Clothing Company’s Claret Wrap, and she carried her vintage handbag. The Express has the story (and photos), you can see both here. With thanks to @Kags_7 on Twitter, we now know the piece is available for pre-ordering.

The wrap/shawl was initially worn on Christmas Day 2013. It is described as “A luxurious Cashmere Mix Wool Wrap in a warm tartan consisting of Claret and Navy Checks”.

We now have an ID on the earrings Kate wore in New York with her Beulah London ‘Amara’ dress. The Duchess was attending a reception and dinner hosted by the American Friends of the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

We have not yet identified the earrings either.  It turns out the earrings are from an American designer, the iconic Kenneth Jay Lane.  A Tip of the Tiara today for Arwenn, she identified the earrings and shared the info with My Small Obsessions. Kate was wearing a pair of Silvertone Crystal Earrings. Below we show them at Lyst.com (an online shopping aggregator). They are also viewable on a Facebook page dedicated to the Wear to Kill collection.

The stones are all handset cubic zirconias, and the style has been sold out for some time. However, our friend Kristen let us know the earrings can be special ordered from Jardin Jewelry.  Kristen learned the earrings also came in a version with blue stones.

Anna of My Small Obsessions has head from the folks at CZ Kenneth Jay Lane: Kate’s version of the earrings will be available again in about 6 weeks. They will be priced at $175; for more information contact CZbyKenJayLane

For anyone unfamiliar with Kenneth Jay Lane, the jeweler has long created pieces worn by notables from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Princess Diana to Madonna and Lady Gaga. Some jewelry is sold via the Kenneth Jay Lane website; a broad selection of pieces can also be found at retailers like Shopbop and Neiman Marcus. The largest selection of the designer’s work is at QVC.

That uniform is definitely Brownie, part of the Girl Guides organisation (now GGUK). Girls were allowed to join all ages of the Scouting movement from July 2001. (older sections were open to girls from 1976). As Kate would have been 9 at the time the Royal Charter changes were agreed with regard to girls in Scouting, she could have become a Cub, but a Brownie she was. I was in the Guides up until the age of 13, when I became involved in Scouts and did both for several years before dropping Guides (no reason other than no senior section in my village) and continuing with Scouts. I love being a Scout and am still a leader to this day. Well done to Kate to genuinely being involved with this, girls are a great addition and some of the girls in Scouts are more capable than the boys. It's also a more natural environment. We live in a world that funnily enough has both sexes living in it, learning to live together in the environment of Scouting whilst reaching your potential is no better way to learn that. Being a Scout can still be glamorous.

I'm a bit late to the party but I really love this post. Obviously it is not a shining fashion moment we will remember for years to come, but the photos of Kate working with the children show how much she's enjoying herself. I think the hoodie was a perfect choice as she was clearly relaxed.

As for the jeans, I've never tried any on from J. Crew so I can't discount that they could be those. However, I own a pair of the TopShop Moto Leigh in pink and I know that the fabric is quite thin and smooth (it's hard to describe, ha). My first thought when seeing the full shot of Kate near the middle of the post was "Oh, she's wearing the TopShop maternity jeans from after George was born". They definitely have a shine that shows the texture is really similar to the TopShop jeans. That being said, I don't think she was wearing a blue version of the Leigh jeans at the polo match - the denim in that photo looks much too thick.

It’s wonderful to see Kate so at home with the children and a great endorsement for the highly practical Beaver Scout hoodie. Her trousers certainly look like the maternity style she wore in New York and, though they are described as skinny jeans, I’m glad to see some extra fullness in the leg. I’m not happy with ultra-skin-tight for royal outings – this pair also benefits from being worn under a hip-length top.

Her hair too looks in wonderful condition and stud earrings suitably low-key. Those Charge-It boots look truly comfortable as well as stylish, I’ve always liked R&B.

It’s great to get that ID on the Kenneth Jay Lane earrings – nice sleuthing! I’ve just caught up with the Hello magazine picture spread of the Stateside visit and been happy to find they have done it justice. I tend to find myself a bit disappointed by Hello these days as -- in the age before the web-on-the-smartphone, -- I think such royal coverage was more extensive.

I’ve really enjoyed getting a further close-up on the Beulah dress worn with those drop earrings, the lacework is even more pretty to my eyes. I’m also taken with the close-up of the Cartier Infinity necklace which is also more intricate close up. I think it can look a bit on the clunky side in full-length photos.

I love that Really Wild tartan wrap – glad to see the Duchess getting her moneys’ worth! Thanks for a super post.
