  • Selfies are okay today! Normally the public isn’t allowed to take photographs at St. Mary Magdalene, with the exception of Christmas Day. That rule has been lifted for today’s event. More from the Daily Mail:

Well-wishers are normally banned from taking pictures when the Queen and her family attend services at St Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

The restriction is only lifted on Christmas Day.  But William and Kate, often fiercely protective of their privacy, have asked for the rule to be relaxed, authorising people to take pictures of them with Charlotte and her brother Prince George.

And it needs to be mentioned, Pippa Middleton knocked it out of the park today! Think she totally upstaged Kate...... Gorgeous outfit!! Loved the coats texture and it complimented her beautiful tan. Are those Charlotte Olympia shoes she was wearing?

Susan, do you have any information on why nanny Maria was dressed like Mary Poppins today? In all my years of being a royal fan (34 years and counting) I do not recall seeing any royal nanny dressed in this manner. The hat and white gloves was certainly an interesting touch. It was actually reminiscent of how a royal nanny might have dressed when HM was an infant. Perhaps it was to show she is not a guest but rather a royal servant? Odd......... Williams former nanny who helped out when George was a baby did not dress that way for his christening. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! :)

That is the standard Norland Nanny uniform. There may be a protocol at Norland regarding when you wear the uniform and when you do not. If there is, I assure you that it's not about the employer but rather the great pride that Norland takes in its reputation and its desire to put its "brand" on display.

Norland nannies are considered vastly desirable, the crème de la crème of nannies around the world and better compensated than any other nannies. Even so, I imagine that they are not above a little advertising, a little crowing.

Susie Q, I'm not well-versed on this topic, other than to say not all royal nannies have been Norland nannies. I don't believe Olga Powell was (one of William and Harry's nannies), and I know "Tiggy" Legge-Bourke was not. Nor was Clara Knight, nanny to the Princesses Elizabeth and Anne when they were children. I don't know that there's been a historic line of Norland nannies engaged by the royals the last 50-75 years that we can use as a barometer.

I think Charlotte is a gorgeous child, and it was nice to see Kate in a new suit. I would have liked to see a different shade on her, but I suppose she wanted a color that would coordinate with the baby's christening robes.

Does anyone know which shoes she's wearing? They look like the Jimmy Choo Gilbert.

It's hard to tell, but I think Carole Middleton might be wearing the necklace she wore to Kate's wedding. I was wondering when we would see some of those pieces again.

Kate looked happy and gorgeous today for her daughter's christening. I love the cream coat dress, her hair, the hat, and the understated jewelry. The neckline is modern and I think the entire fit is perfect. I think this is one of her most sophisticated looks to date. My favorite look of the day however was Pippa's. The style and color of her dress very nicely complimented her sister's but the fabric and retro styling gave it that certain edge.
