It’s Catherine Walker for Official Denmark Welcome

The Duchess was busy on the second day of her visit to Denmark. She started the day with a visit to Stenurten Forest Kindergarten, where students have some of their lessons outside. (Click here for that post.)

This post focuses on the day’s other engagements, beginning with an official welcome by Queen Margrethe II.

Crown Princess Mary was also part of the welcome.

The event was at Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg.  More from Erin Hill’s People story

The meeting is not only a reminder of the long-standing relationship between the two royal families, but it also coincides with the respective Platinum and Golden Jubilees being celebrated this year.

Margrethe is marking 50 years on the throne, while Queen Elizabeth is being honored for 70 years on the throne.

A current Queen and two future queens.

I liked this image of the three women.

People reported that after the trio met, “Kate and Mary departed for a private lunch. They walked across the Amalienborg Courtyard to Frederik VIII’s Palace, where Mary and her husband Prince Frederik live with their four children.”

A wide shot.

The duo posed for a few photos.

Another view.

The two women in profile.

The Duchess initially met Princess Mary in 2011, when she traveled to Denmark for a UNICEF event with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.

Some readers will also remember the Danish royals attending Royal Ascot in 2016

After lunch, the pair visited the Danner Crisis Center. They were greeted by two young ladies with flowers.

April (5) and Mouna (7) were the young ladies presenting the flowers. More from the Evening Standard’s story by Robert Jobson.

“Thank you so much,” said Kate, crouching down alongside Mary to speak to them. “What’s your name?”

“It’s a bit cold!” said the Crown Princess, ushering them inside.

A formal photo to memorialize the occasion.

The Crisis Center is supported by the Mary Foundation

Royal Central reports

Crown Princess Mary founded the Mary Foundation with a 1.1 million kroner gift from a wedding fund in 2004, raised by the people of Denmark and Greenland. In that time, Mary has used her influence and profile to support and raise awareness for important causes in Denmark.

In 2006, Mary had the idea for the foundation and officially launched it in 2007 based on the overarching theme of social work running throughout her patronages.

From the Foundation’s website.

The royals at today’s function.

They saw a presentation about the center.

The Evening Standard report notes the center “can accommodate 18 mothers and 18 children fleeing domestic abuse at a time and on average they stay for four or five months.”

The Duchess looking at one of the backpacks distributed by the center.

The center reports that since 2008, the Mary Foundation has distributed backpacks to children in shelters, which include clothes, books, and toys. The center points out the backpacks are practical, as some abused mothers and children arrive “without much more than each other in hand.”

There were some moments of levity at the event.

The Duchess and Crown Princess as they left the Danner Center.

A quick hug goodbye.

The Duchess then headed to the airport. I believe she is thanking officers that were part of her protective detail.

A group photo.

Now for our look at what Kate wore.

We begin with her Catherine Walker ‘Marine’ coat, a style based on an 18th-century naval frockcoat.

The double-breasted design is crafted of gunmetal grey cashmere and wool with black lapels and cuffs. It also features princess seams and angled welt pockets at the hip.  The Duchess’s version does not have the uppermost row of buttons seen in the photo, and I believe the buttons on the lapels are darker than the mother of pearl style seen on the body of the coat.  Below, a closer look at the slightly flared cuff, the hip pocket, and lapel.

The Duchess carried the Small Amberley Crossbody by Mulberry.

It looked like the Duchess wore her Gianvito Rossi 105 suede pumps ($675).

She brought back the Maria Black ‘Cha Cha’ earrings first seen yesterday.  The earrings are still available at Maria Black ($188), as well as Selfridges ($180).

The Duchess also repeated the Nura Pearl Necklace ($165 for pendant and necklace, both sold separately) from Monica Vinader that we saw yesterday.

For those interested in Princess Mary’s ensemble, I saw a reference to it being a repeated Chanel look. I will try and get more info and update you later this evening.

One more photo.

Also today, a brief update on the Queen’s health. You may recall she canceled yesterday’s virtual engagement(s) after Sunday’s announcement she has COVID-19. But today she held her weekly meeting with Boris Johnson, by phone, as she continues her recuperation at Windsor Castle.  Hopefully, that is a sign she is feeling better.

Kate always looks classically polished. She is dressing for the ages.

I don’t know how to post a pic, but I found one that shows her wearing a black dress under the gray coat. If you look at 2royalduchess on Instagram- one of her posts show the black dress under the coat. Not sure if you can indenting, but it looks like a nice midi dress, almost looks like tee shirt dress, as it’s a bit loose and looks thin, but looks like cotton. I wonder what it looked it without the coat!

I never thought I would say this, but I'm rather bored with the below the knee dress/coat. And standing next to CPM, who is dressed so chic (age appropriate of course) and youthful, I don't know. Even perhaps a shorter dress/coat? I absolutely love Kate's taste in fashion, but I wish she would step out of her own box now and then and change things up. Even one of her shorter grey dresses if she must go grey? Kate would look good in a paper sack, but I vote for more youthful outfits.

This is for the first time I could recognise kates attire instantly as I liked this picture on insta in Catherine walker instagram.I at that time really felt she would love to wear it.And I must say she looked gorgeous. MARY is a nice lady and I found uncanny resemblance in them.Really happy that the duchess is now getting in headlines for her work rather than her clothes.
