The Duchess Wears the Vampire’s Wife for Belize Reception

The Duchess chose a vibrant pink dress by The Vampire’s Wife for tonight’s reception in Belize.

The event was outdoors.

A video of the couple arriving shared by Lizzie Robinson of ITV.

Some of those welcoming guests at tonight’s event.

Another view.

Here is a better look at tonight’s ensemble.

More from People’s story.

The couple was greeted with cheers as they arrived at the reception, which celebrated the very best of Belizean culture.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met with community leaders, well-known Belizeans, and members of the government throughout the evening.

The party was at the ancient Mayan ruins of Cahal Pech.

The event was hosted by the Governor-General, Her Excellency Ms. Froyla Tzalam. More about the location from Travel Belize

….Cahal Pech was a ceremonial center, with temples, palaces and a ball court.  The site is particularly important for the information it has provided on the earliest Maya settlements in the region, for its large number of Pre-classic figurines and for its complex residential architecture. Indeed, its maze of interconnected rooms provide an excellent example of Late Classic Maya palace architecture.

Cahal Pech is located on an imposing hill that overlooks the twin town of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. First settled between 1200-1000 B.C., the site is one of the oldest settlements in the lowland Maya world.

Also attending tonight’s reception, Prime Minister Johnny Briceño (right).

Prince William delivered remarks tonight, saying, “Catherine and I are delighted to be here with you tonight in Belize at the beginning of our first official visit to the Caribbean. You could not have chosen a more beautiful and evocative setting, here at Cahal Pech.”

From this Reuters story

Britain’s Prince William on Monday paid tribute to Ukrainians struggling for survival in their homeland after he and wife Kate visited a British military training camp in the jungles of Belize during their week-long tour of the Caribbean.

Prince William, a former British Royal Air Force pilot, spoke about safeguarding democracy and pointed out that Belize had joined many other nations condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Today we think of those struggling in Ukraine and we stand with them in solidarity,” Prince William said during a formal dinner on the grounds of the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve with Belize’s prime minister.

William also told fellow guests that their son Prince George keeps up with his parents international trips by sticking pins in a map.

He told guests: ‘We let them know where we are and he finds us on the map and puts a pin in it and shares with the others’

Guests included officials, politicians, those working in the non-profit field, and business people.

One of the more interesting things about the dress is how it looked under different lighting.

In these photos, it almost looks red.

Below, a view as the Cambridges were leaving the event.

And a video.

Now for our look at what Kate wore.

The Duchess wore a dress by The Vampire’s Wife. It looks like the ‘Light Sleeper‘ style in one of the label’s metallic fabrics. It features flutter sleeves, a fitted bodice, and a defined waist. The Duchess’s dress has a ribbon tie (seen above left).

It is a design offered in various materials, from chiffon to georgette to viscose. I would guess the Duchess’s fabric is a silk-blend or 100% silk. Richard Palmer of The Express reports, “The official description of the colour of Kate’s dress is “vibrant metallic pink.”

Some will recall the metallic green dress by the Vampire’s Wife worn in Dublin during a March 2020 visit

The Duchess carried a Mayan embroidered handbag.

And wore the Mimi Sandals by Jimmy Choo initially seen at a 2019 reception in Pakistan

Her hair was down.

And she brought back the O’Nitaa earrings first noted at a 2019 reception in Pakistan. The design is similar (but not identical) to the retailer’s Antique Earring with Stonework shown in the center below.

If you missed it, Monday’s earlier post covered the casual style worn for a visit to Caracol and a military training site.

Tuesday the tour moves to its next stop, Jamaica.

One of her best looks ever I think. The dress is stylish, modern, young, elegant, a bit Boho, very British. I agree that she looks overdressed, but I don't care. Beautiful!

The overwhelming consensus seems to be "Yes" to this dress. And I agree entirely. It's bold, refreshing and glamorous.

I will, however, note a minor tailoring issue in the darts coming up to the bust. There is just a slight buckling to the fabric that maybe betrays this designer that doesn't have the close relationship of CW or McQueen with Catherine. I find the ribbon at the waist superfluous, particularly as it has what I personally term "the Wickstead issue": belts and waistlines often unevenly tailored front to back.

As to the other considerations. I will repeat what others have said: the entire ensemble seems out of place, even when factoring in that tropical culture often sees women's formalwear a notch more formal than what is considered formal for men. I think something more like the red McQueen off-the-shoulder dress we saw in Germany might have served the event a bit better. The clutch is bold while keeping a neutral color scheme against the vivid color of the dress. And I love how the peaks in the embroidery softly echo the ruffles of the sleeves. I find the earrings perplexing. They are far from matchy-matchy but maybe not in the proper ballpark for "coordinating." The shoes are necessary for the dress, and so end up being the wrong shoe for the setting.

I have to agree with the comments on the appropriateness of this dress considering the venue and the casualness of William’s attire. The shiny metallic fabric just seems over the top. Perhaps this same design in georgette or a lovely silk?

Typically I am not even remotely into shiny clothing and I am definitely not a fan of the color pink in almost any shade but this dress is.....spectacular. The whole look reminds me of when Meghan wore the blue dress and super straight hair and gorgeous make-up to the event where the instantly popular "Rain Photo" was taken of her and Harry. Admin, feel free to add the name or a link to the event for reference if appropriate.

Both dresses fit to perfection. The hair. The make-up. The drama! They both looked FABULOUS. If you knew me at all you would know that I am not into formal wear, dresses, high heels, etc. I'm definitely a tomboy and always prefer Kate's sporty and every day looks. But this look on Kate is just Spot On. If she was at an event that warranted such a dress (because this isn't it) I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Lol.

Whether or not the dress what right for the venue/occasion is another discussion entirely. I wonder if there was another outfit planned that for reasons unknown wasn't available and this was a 'next best thing' because it definitely seems out of place with the attire of everyone else.

I don't even want to think about the logistics of how they decide what clothing is worn to which events in each country they are visiting, not to mention the accessories and transporting it all. And contingency pieces for 'just in case'. And their pajamas. Lots of details!

Gorgeous dress! Definitely one of my new favorites of hers. I think she was overdressed a bit in comparison to everyone else but that's okay. She needs to stand out anyway. I am loving the risks she's taking this tour.
