Familiar Designs for Rugby World Cup & The Princess in “The Good, The Bad & The Rugby”

Familiar Designs for Rugby World Cup & The Princess in “The Good, The Bad & The Rugby”

The Princess of Wales was in a familiar look for today’s Rugby World Cup match between England and Argentina. Also in today’s post, the Princess is part of an entertaining rugby-related video.

The match was at the Stade de Marseille in Marseille, southern France.

More from this Yahoo News piece.

Kate, patron of the Rugby Football Union, was greeted by RFU president Rob Briers, France 2023 chairman Jacques Rivoal and World Rugby chairman Sir Bill Beaumont before being shown to her seat in the Presidential Box at Marseille’s Stade Velodrome.

Dressed in a white trouser suit, she spoke with each of the administrators in turn but spent longest with Sir Bill, the former England captain.

“We’re really excited to be here. Shame we can’t be here longer,” she said.

Sir Bill replied: “It’s been a very busy and hectic few weeks for the build-up.”

Kate said: “I’m sure it will be brilliant.”

In many of the photos, you see the Princess with Sir Bill (below, right, I believe).

Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regional council, shared a photo welcoming British fans and saying it was an honor to meet the Princess.

A wide shot of the Presidential Box.

We also saw some funny faces from the Princess during the match.

It was a good day for England; they won the match 27 – 10. Kensington Palace shared this message following the match.

The Princess met with players after the match. Below, she is seen greeting Courtney Lawes.

Also today, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Princess Anne, are part of the latest episode of The Good, the Bad, and The Rugby.

That is the podcast co-hosted by Mike Tindall and another former player, James Haskell (center), and broadcaster Alex Payne (left).

Here is a promo for the episode.

The podcast was recorded on Wednesday in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.

Here is one clip with the Princess.

More from this Telegraph story.

Challenged by fellow host James Haskell that she and her husband are “super, super competitive”, the Princess of Wales said, “I’m not that competitive”, while her husband laughed and winked.

She went on to say: “If I asked both my parents who is the most competitive, I think probably, like William and I, they’d sit down for quite a long time arguing who was the most competitive and who was the most sporty of the two of them.”

And one more clip.

As many will recall, the Princess of Wales is patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), Prince William is the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) patron, and Princess Anne is patron of the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU).

And from People’s coverage of the video:

The princess also shared that her daughter plays both rugby and football, both of which “weren’t school sports when I was growing up.”

“Charlotte’s playing both the sports now, and it’s really good to see youngsters, particularly girls, playing these types of sports now,” she shared.

There is a full-length video of the podcast

Now for our coverage of what Kate wore for the match and the podcast taping. At today’s match, it looks like she wore the Alexander McQueen blazer seen at the March launch of an Early Years business task force (below left) and coordinating trousers. Or she wore the optic white McQueen separates seen at October’s Windrush engagements (below right).

The white blazer was first noted when worn in Jamaica during the Caribbean tour. UPDATE SEP 19: A friend who wishes to remain anonymous suggests the trousers are by Roland Mouret, the brand’s “Uppingham” style. The trousers worn to the rugby match do not have a front zipper, and look like they could be the Mouret style.

You can see how the pieces worn today contrast with the ivory or eggshell clutch..

The Massimo Dutti clutch is made with strips of woven sheepskin leather, and it has a top zipper; it also comes with a detachable shoulder strap.

Today’s jewelry pieces are familiar to many readers. We saw the return of the Mappin and Webb “Empress” necklace (on sale for £1500, roughly $1870) and matching earrings, (£3750, about $4700 at today’s exchange rates) and the sterling silver England Rugby Rose brooch (no longer available).

In The Good, the Bad, and the Rugby video released today, it appears the Princess wore her Catherine Walker Prince of Wales check blazer. The jacket was first noted last February at a London engagement. It is single-breasted with a fitted silhouette, notch lapels, flap pockets, a center-back vent, and four buttons at the cuff.

It’s possible the Princess wore her Holland Cooper Bodysuit (£149) beneath the jacket, but without better photos, I can’t say that is the case with certainty.

I am not sure what trousers the Princess wore, but we do know which pair of shoes she had on – the Hugo Boss Staple P90-L heels in “anthracite grey” embossed leather.

She was wearing two necklaces in the video. Middleton Maven believes one is the Daniella Draper Three Star Necklace ($655), as suggested to her by Chrissy, and I think they are spot-on. It is made of recycled silver and yellow gold, measuring 17″ in length.

The other necklace *might* be the Daniella Draper Trio Diamond Midnight Moon Necklace ($1700), personalized with the initials of her children. (It is shown below when worn on another occasion.)

Her earrings may be Kiki McDonough’s Green Amethyst Pear Drop Earrings (£695, about $866 at today’s exchange rates).

And finally today, a 1-minute video released by Buckingham Palace covering highlights of the King Charles’s first year.

NOTE: The post has been updated to show both the ivory and the white Alexander McQueen designs. I originally wrote that I thought it was the ivory set, but as outlined above, I think it is the white.

Beautiful! Would've loved to see a pop of colour against the white but maybe in a re-wear! Her hair looks UH-mazing.

Princess Kate looks smashing in this white suit. It's professional and sleek, yet feminine, and the all-white lends a softness the ensemble might have lacked had a pop of bright color been added (which would also have been great). With many others, I love the gray pumps in Good, Bad, Rugby! Really fun to see Kate and fellow-family interacting on a subject of such passion for all. Princess Anne's outfit was elegant...one of my all-time favorites for her. She was witty and relaxed while remaining her formidable, observant, and to-the-point self.

Susan, thank you ever so much for all the stellar coverage. I sniffled my way through the wonderful memories of Her Late Majesty and, at the same time, delighted to see the young William and Catherine coming into their own. Great job!

A people article headline read she had a new haircut. Doesn’t look looks different to me…. Love the white suit. Not a fan of white shoes and bag, though not looking for dramatic color. I would have paired with something like her trusty lk Bennett sledge pumps she used to wear so often and a hand gang to match them. Neutral, light, but not white. Still, a very nice look.

No issues with the rugby talk look.

Confess I'm not into white but the suit is so elegant on POW. Agree also with others that a splash of colour on the handbag and shoes perhaps would have toned the white a bit. Loved the POW Jacket and those grey shoes are a knockout.
