We are back with a very brief post, primarily to share something fun:
That is a new picture of Prince George, one of three being released as his first birthday draws near. In this first of the three images, HRH not only appears to be walking on his own, he seems more-than-confident and happy as he does so. You can read all of the details on his sartorial selections at our sister site, What Prince George Wore. (A quick hint on those overalls: Petit Bateau.)
Many readers will recall our post earlier this month showing the Cambridges leaving a Natural History Museum exhibit, “Sensational Butterflies.” Comments suggesting official photos were being taken at the to coincide with George’s birthday were spot on. You can just make out photographer John Stillwell in this picture.
Does it seem like it’s been a year since we first met the young Prince?
For those interested in a little stroll down Memory Lane, we also have a delightful collection of images showcased in that What Prince George Wore post.
The other two pictures to be released include Kate and William, they will be out on Monday. We will have a more comprehensive look at this past year in a Monday post that will include the newest family photos.

Our second item this evening: a correction to our ID on the pink Alexander McQueen look worn by Kate when visiting South Australia in April.
We originally said the Duchess was wearing separates, the brand’s Pique Knit Top and a pleated skirt.
But it turns out that isn’t the case.
Behold, the Alexander McQueen ‘Wool Cashmere Peplum Dress,’ we show it at My Theresa ($3395) in ‘powder’.
A look comparing what Kate wore and the Peplum Dress.
Another group of comparison shots:
More about the frock:
- it is 90% wool, 10% cashmere blend
- this dress features a high/low draped hemline, longer in back than in the front
- the peplum is structured and reinforced with interfacing, as opposed to a soft, unstructured style
- in addition to a hidden zipper there are 3 interior hook/eye fastenings at the waist to help maintain a clean, uninterrupted line
It also comes in a second color, the poppy red version is available at Lane Crawford ($3235).
We send thanks to our pals at the HRH Duchess Kate blog for the tip on this!
Finally this evening, we now have an official release date for the Roland Mouret/Banana Republic capsule collection launching this fall: it will be available in-store and online beginning Thursday, August 7.
Those who sign up for BR’s email list (and presumably those already on the list) will be able to shop the much-anticipated collection a day earlier.
We’ll see you on Monday, until then we hope everyone enjoys a splendid rest of the weekend!

The problem with the dress isn't the McQueen cut which was a signature look for him and gives the outfit a bit of an edge. The problem is that someone had the front hemline lengthened. You'll notice it hits Kae mid-to low knee (that non-flattering length) and it is shown on the model at top of knee which makes the longer length in the back look like a design element rather than a mistake which it does in the version the Princess wears. This is a beautiful dress - too bad the tampering with the hemline ruined the cut. However I share the skepticism that this is actually the dress version. The separate top looks far more form fitting than the dress. This may be because the separate skirt can be worn lower on the waistline allowing the top to be cut tighter. The cut of Kates top certainly looks more like the separate version.

I'm so interested in the update on the AMcQ peplum dress, and to discover that the drooping back hem was intentional. It makes more sense to me in the poppy version, where the model shows it dipping low enough at the back even for my own dim understanding to see it's deliberate and not a wardrobe malfunction.
The pink on the model looks to have less of a back dip, though it may be the paler colour playing tricks, and it's possible Kate may have had the contrast in lengths toned down. Either way, it seems an odd feature for a designer to make a hem look badly cut, but that's fashion for you.
I still love the colour and overall I think the outfit still looks great on Kate. The fabric sounds fabulous, it must be pretty cosy and would work well in the role of dress-coat. Kate can enjoy ease of movement while effectively wearing a dress-coat.
It's fun to see the little fellah shooting up already. Thanks for a lovely post.

I don't know...there's something about the waist detail on the dress version that looks bulkier somehow than what Kate is wearing. The picture of the top looks smoother, like it does on Kate. The color is certainly right. If it is the dress, then it looks to have been fitted much more to her than to the model, and obviously Kate's skirt is more subtle.

Once again, amazing work! JUST HOW are you able to determine these things - there is so little difference! I didn't like this outfit at the time but find that since the tour it has really grown on me. It was smart while not being too dressy, and sensible and appropriate for what was probably a warm-ish day. I always liked the colour and think it really compliments Kate. Looking forward to seeing the new photos! I can't believe the Prince of Cute is one already.

Every time I see a photo of Prince George, I see Kate's Dad, Michael Middleton. Google an image of him and see what I mean. I like Kate's parents and wonder why there are sometimes negative comments about them. They are self made and successful due to creating a savvy business. They seem like very good parents, discreet in everything they do and very loving and supportive of their three children. Carol Middleton looks slim and stylish in her wardrobe and is obviously a role model for Kate.

That is EXACTLY what I see, also.
