The Duchess Wears Whistles for Palace Tea

We are back with a quick post updating Kate’s “under the radar” engagements. The most recent was Wednesday when the Duke and Duchess hosted a get-together at Kensington Palace.

The event was a tea for BBC Radio 1 Teen Hero award winners. The big awards ceremony is Sunday, but the KP event allowed for special recognition from Kate and William. More from a BBC story:

The three teenagers who won, Lily, Siena and Junior, will be awarded their prizes at Wembley Arena alongside performances form artists including Little Mix and Liam Payne.

Lily, 14, is a wheelchair motocross competitor and advocate. Siena, 16, works to support students with autism and learning disabilities and Junior, 14, is a dancer who campaigns against bullying.

The awards celebrate and recognize “unsung teenage heroes” in the UK, as well as the year’s best music, online, sport and entertainment stars. Below right, Junior Frood.

More from Yahoo royal correspondent Danielle Stacey:

The trio couldn’t hide their smiles as they met William and Kate at the palace.

Greg James says: “For Radio 1’s Teen Heroes to be invited to Kensington Palace shows how much their selfless work is appreciated, not just in their own communities but by the entire country.

“Siena, Lily and Junior had an incredible day speaking to William and Kate about their work and also enjoyed the incredible selection of biscuits that were on offer.”

The event was listed in the Court Circular.

We learned of the gathering when The Sun’s Emily Andrews tweeted about the event.

The couple has worked with Radio 1 before. You may remember their surprise visit to the Radio 1 studios in April of 2017. More from a BBC story:

Last year the royal couple appeared on Radio 1 to support DJ Adele Roberts, who was running the London Marathon, and speak about the importance of being open about mental health.

Prince William admitted that he sometimes texts in to Radio 1 under a fake name – and has even received a shout-out before.

Also from the Court Circular this week, on Tuesday “The Duchess of Cambridge this morning held a Meeting of experts convened by the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to inform Her Royal Highness’s charitable “Early Years” initiative. More from a Hello! story:

Though no other details have been confirmed, it’s definitely a cause close to the duchess’s heart, who puts a lot of work into early education and mental health awareness for kids and youth. It was previously said that the mother of three would be embarking on a solo charity campaign, and the Daily Mail reported: “She is bringing together experts from academia, education, health and other fields to work on how to help families tackle anti-social behaviour, addiction and metal health.”

Now to what Kate wore for the tea. With thanks to Gemma of Food, Fash, Fit, the dress you see Kate wearing is by Whistles.

Called the Margot Spot Shirt Dress, the garment is midi-length in 100% viscose, with a button front, fitted waist, and self-belt. It remains available at John Lewis in larger sizes (£159), at Brown Thomas in most sizes (£159) and in only larger sizes at Next.

Kate’s earrings are her Cassandra Goad Temple of Heaven pair.

Our other quick note today involves the additional photo that was released from Princess Eugenie’s wedding. Many of you have probably seen it, but for those who have not, the candid shot shows the bridesmaids, page boys and bride and groom.

Princess Eugenie shared the image on Instagram, saying, “Jack and I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making our day so special and for all the wonderful wishes as we start married life laughing together.” In the center of the picture, you see Charlotte, who looks like she has a case of the giggles. Savannah Phillips has her arms around the bride; Teddy Williams can be seen to the groom’s right, and Maud Windsor is on the far left of the photo.

This dress is making me wish Kate would borrow one of Meghan's navy dresses. Just kidding, but really this dress is just "blah" to me. Don't like the color or style, and it doesn't do anything for Kate. Still, she looks lovely, as always.

love this dress, stylish and elegant without screaming look at me. So subtle and appropriate for the occasion. Love the shoes as well, nude never detracts from the main outfit which I think is a smart move.

I like the dress too. It looks great on her and so appropriate for the occasion. The focus is on the attendees and this dress does that while looking fabulous on her. She knows how to do it, make the attendees feel welcome and not have an over the top outfit (or expensive) that makes them feel out of place.

I think we all have 'go to' shoes. The DoC's just happen to be nude.

I really like the colour of the dress with the colour of her hair.

Whistles website description suggests a short ankle boot be worn with the Margot dress and they have a slew of contemporary shoes and boots available on their site. That would have helped the dress and steer it away from looking matronly and gloomy. Since the earrings are really Kate's only accessory I would have suggested she pin her hair back so the dangling earrings could be more visible and appreciated.

May I have the job as photographer's assistant? This is just nit-picking but he group shot in KP with Kate, William and the Teen Heroes needs help. It's unfortunate the group wasn't spaced well and you just see Kate's head. The children with Eugenie and Jack is an interesting composition but I would have moved George over to Eugenie's left and moved the empty chair. My heart is still full of joy for Eugenie and Jack and I wish them a Happy One Week Anniversary!

I highly doubt the shot with the kids has been arranged at all, Christina O.

All very good styling suggestions. Would love to see PonytailKate again. Kate has also worn some very cute booties that would look great with the dress. The group shot spacing with the Heroes was terrible and it was annoying that KP only posted the one pic.
