Kate and the Queen Out for a Drive at Balmoral UPDATED: Church Outfit

FYI: Midway down the page you’ll see an update about what Kate wore to church services today, but be advised there are not new photos, I haven’t been able to license any yet. (Didn’t want everyone scrolling down eagerly only to learn there are no new pix.)

You can see the Queen is at the wheel with Kate in the front seat and the security detail in the back. Of all the royal residences, Balmoral Castle is said to be HM’s favorite. More from Hello!

The Queen has returned to “the most beautiful place on Earth” where she can truly relax and be herself – Balmoral Estate in Scotland. As she does every year, the monarch spends her summer in the Scottish Highlands with her husband Prince Philip.

The Cambridges arrived on Thursday. Kate, William George and Charlotte are staying at Birkhall, Prince Charles’s private estate. Located on the grounds of Balmoral, it is also where Princes Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall take their annual summer break.

Both Kate and the Queen appeared to enjoying themselves while on their way to meet up with Prince William.  More from The Telegraph:

The family were coming together for a picnic lunch in the hills above Loch Muick on the estate, and the Duchess, who is known as the Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, was seen smiling and relaxed in the front passenger seat of the Range Rover.

In September we generally see a photo of the royals driving to Crathie Kirk, the family’s place of worship when at Balmoral. Below you see Kate and William on their way to services in September of last year when Kate wore her ‘Celeste’ coat by Hobbs.  Jesal Parshotam/Niraj Tanna/Splash News

It’s unknown whether we will see photos of the family at services today, although it appears they did attend. This tweet is from a gentleman named Paul Anderson; his Twitter profile says he is a Scottish traditional fiddler.

The Daily Mail has photos from this morning, you can see them here. From The Mail’s story:

…it appears Her Majesty was eager for Prince George and Princess Charlotte to spend time with both sets of grandparents as she invited Carole Middleton to visit the Royal Family north of the border.

Mrs Middleton today joined the Monarch, Prince Philip, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for a service at Crathie Kirk, a parish church just two minutes’ drive from Balmoral Castle.

It looks like Kate is wearing her Michael Kors suit, or at least the jacket. Here you see the Duchess wearing the suit L and R: at a church service and a Gallipoli memorial in January of this year; the Center picture is from December 27 of last year when Kate and William joined other royals and guests at a church service December 27 , 2015.

It looks like Kate was wearing a new hat in a burgundy/wine/maroon-ish color.

Now we return to our look at the outfit worn Saturday when the Queen and Kate were out on the Balmoral grounds. This year it is difficult (there’s an understatement) to determine from the available photos what Kate was wearing. A possible ID on one item comes from the always-sharp Food Fash & Fit, she suggests Kate could be wearing her Autumn Partridge scarf from Really Wild. Here you see Kate wearing the scarf for Christmas Day services in 2014.

It’s not possible to identify the jacket or coat she has on, although there is a little hint in the photo below right – you can see what looks like a lined cuff that has been folded back. Or, it could be the cuff of a blouse that we are seeing. The print is reminiscent of a Liberty design, in shades of rust, gold, and perhaps olive green. There have been a number of good suggestions on Twitter and the Facebook page, including Katherine Hooker. That brand has beautiful linings for its garments and often uses the same material as a decorative element elsewhere on a piece, like the underside of a collar or piping on lapels. But I generally don’t think of folded back and/or lined cuffs when recalling Katherine Hooker designs. If it turns out the material is a blouse then Katherine Hooker is a very good possibility.©Peter Jolly/REX/Shutterstock

Another good idea: the green blazer/jacket from Ralph Lauren, but I think the lapels on that piece are wider than what Kate is wearing. Here you see Kate wearing it in August of 2013 for the Ring of Fire Race on Anglesey.©Splash News

A third possibility that also makes sense is the Angel coat from Reiss Kate has worn several times. Below you see the Duchess wearing it last November for engagements in North Wales.

But the Angel does not button in the center as Kate’s jacket from yesterday does. However,  I am optimistic some of our savvy readers will have thoughts on the piece.

We will definitely see you Friday when Kate and William visit Stewards Academy (if not before).

I love seeing Kate with the Queen, and I LOVE seeing the Queen drive!

Unrelated to this post, but since we have a lot of fashion experts here I thought I would ask - does anyone have experience with waterproof Barbour coats? I'm looking to invest in a really good raincoat as the winters were I live now are a lot more wet and misty than the dry, snow-covered environment I grew up in. But I also want a coat that looks good, and I've been eyeing Barbour for a couple of years now. Just wondering if this is the right time to pull the trigger on buying a Barbour coat since I can justify the price by the quality.

I have the Beadnell, too, and actually found it on sale at Nordstrom. They last forever, but there's a break in period while the waxed cotton softens up. I also have a summer weight quilted navy jacket that I love. I would have bought it in another color, but it was sold out.

Hi Larissa,

I bought a Barbour two years ago and I adore it - it is so classic and is very waterproof. I would say definitely invest as they last almost forever! I have the 'Beadnell' in dark green with the traditional tartan lining. It looks great with jeans, boots, trainers and most other things too. If you re-wax it every so often it stays looking new. Enjoy!

Fun to see Kate taking part in Balmoral activities and to have an extra post. I think I'd agree it's near impossible to say quite what she's wearing in the early pics with the Queen but it all looks highly practical and appropriate as ever.

However it looks like a genuine ID on the Kors suit which is one I quite like. I like the check and the fit of the jacket, though I don't know how well the mid-calf skirt would look without boots. I'd have thought it might be a tad warm for this time of year, even in the draughty Scottish Highlands, but, Kate looks as impervious as ever to temperatures either high or low.

Looking forward to seeing her again this Friday.

I like that Kors suit, too, though I think it needs more creative styling than the Duchess has presented, rather more like the way it looks on the model. However, you need the right legs to pull off those "shooties".

Just thought I'd mention: I ordered a silk blouse from Pure, to replace an old favorite that had finally bitten the dust, and instead of the US 2/UK 6 I ordered, they sent me a US 14/UK 10. It's quite a lovely blouse (gorgeous ivory silk charmeuse), so I'm requesting an exchange, but I'm annoyed. This is the first major problem I've had with Pure, though, so I suppose I shouldn't complain too mightily.

Could her outfit be by Really Wild Clothing? I think Carole is wearing a new blouse by RWC.... Just a thought
